That is not politically correct, you should acknowledge everyone is special in there own way and should be accepted. Ha! Ha!
I hope I am incorrect, but I am another who has been watching. These symptoms and what I have been seeing screams Broadmites to me. Iāve been growing damn near 40 years and these somebitches were the very worst to diagnose because I had never heard of them.
They are very similar to the spider mite only way way smaller and not even seen really with a 30X power loupe. I ended up investing in a microscope soon after I knew what I had but found them with a 60X soon after a friend discovered them who I had gotten cuts from months previous.
Here is a link to a story on them I just Googled, so I am not sure how good this one is so proceed with caution.
If you do indeed find you have these guys, hit me up and I will give you the way to eradicate them.
I lost 38 strains about 6 years ago to these bastards, but the war is won once you know you have them.
I hope I am wrong but my gut tells me otherwise.
I was actually going to put an addendum, but I suddenly remembered that I have a job and had to run. ahem, āThen again, this is a vigorous, healthy plant. If itās a male, might be time to try making my own seeds.ā
Whorled phyllotaxy aside, the stem girth is absurd on this plant. Iāll get a pic this weekend, but the stem on a 6-inch plant is thicker than the 2-foot sativa in the back.
Iāve heard of them, and have even read the page you referenced I read a lot of GrowWeedEasy before I discovered that OG had returned. Anyway, right now ā knock on wood ā all is going pretty damn well. Iāve got some minor deficiencies on a couple of plants, a rapidly-dwindling fungus gnat population, some plants that hold water too well, a couple where the peat seems to have gone perma-dryā¦
But these are workable imperfections, and Iām trying to address them by listening to my plants instead of working on a schedule. Organic is hard.
Anyway, new growth is vigorous, and almost universally healthy. As said above, the Chemdawg x Sunshine Daydream ā I think ā is dealing with some magnesium deficiency:
Lightening between the veins, almost exclusively on old fan leaves. Iād also guess that itās approaching potbound, which doesnāt help.
Back to to broadmites: the leaf damage seemed to follow an extremely specific pattern, both in symptoms and in emergence. The bleaching on new growth, for example, was always triggered by watering, particularly when feeding. Itās almost as though the plant would have a growth spurt and forget to color in what it grew.
Upon moving to the new tent, those symptoms disappeared in a few days.
So, I think (and reallyreally hope) that I donāt have mites because they would have come along for the ride to the new tent, and Iād probably be panicking. Iāll give them a good once-over to check for insect-looking leaf damage, but the majority of the leaves on all plants look healthy at this moment. Thanks for popping by, and if Iām wrong and flipping out in a few weeks, Iām taking you up for that eradication advice
Quick update before the clone wars (and topping wars, and training wars, and purging the ones I donāt much care for wars). Might have to turn the flower tent back into a flower tent for halloweenā¦ Iāve never been good with costumes.
Fungus gnats are well under control, thank you potent combination of neem meal, mosquito bits, diatomaceous earth, and @ReikoXās malted barley suggestion. I couldnāt find any in the tent today.
Chemdawg x Sunshine Daydream (tall one in the center) really needs repotting, hopefully tomorrow. Itās starting to show some other deficiencies beyond Mg, which would probably be best addressed with plentiful space and good soil.
Nirvana Mystery Sativa Male in the back will soon be turned to compost. I like it, itās a cute lanky sativa, but if Iām not going to use it for breedingā¦ Might do the same with Space Candy #1. Sheās a good girl, but the high is not my cup of tea. Her more difficult sister, Lumpy Space Princess, will advance to the next round.
All three Blueberries are girls, oh no Theyāre built like tanks, throwing out those nice fat indica leaves from stems too thick for plants that short.
The big Apollo 11 is so, so bushy. Love it. Also needs repotting, but sheās almost as wide as she is tall with no trimming or training. Iāll probably have to stake her up to flower, such are the sacrifices we make for our loved ones.
ā¦ and that angle. Will she stack? She will stack.
Of the seedlings moved in, Iām at 5/7 confirmed females, 1 confirmed male, and the smaller Apollo 11 is taking its timeā¦ I have a feeling itāll be a male, but that one Iād be inclined to keep
I love your english, i get all the nuancies and āmind gamesā without losing anything in the translation. Teach me lol
Happy to see that almost everything is back on the track; sorry to say that reading your worries was passionnating too.
big up
Why thank you, I really like your thread, too. The plants look better, any DIY pics immediately get my attention, and the thread title made me laugh
This thread is mostly my vent so my poor ladyfriend doesnāt have to listen to my grow-related ramblings. She likes looking at the plants (when theyāre healthy), and sheās pretty okay with the end result. To anyone who enjoys my ramblings, I give you a nod of affirmation.
I seem to have smoked something and melted portions of my brain, so Iāll try to be concise with this update and fail miserably.
The last remaining seedling of the summer has had a coming-out party and Apollo 11 #2 isā¦ a girl. phweee. Anyway, after a string of shit luck (4 dead seedlings and 2 males), I now have 6 healthy females from 7 seeds. The only male was Nirvana Mystery Sativa that proved my homebrew seedlings starter was capable of supporting life ā it served its purpose, and will soon be sacrificed to the worms to appease Weed Gods so they continue to smile upon me.
On the other hand, I now have more females than I have space, so I really need to get my veg tent back into working order. Itās going to be so hard to pick a guinea pig from a collection of healthy plants, but if Iām going to cull one of the Space Candy girlsā¦
I guess I have a bit more hope for the veg tent now, as itās no longer the peak of summer. Ambient temperatures are down by 10Āŗf, and relative humidity is up by about 25%. I do not trust the LED fixture anymore (but I got my $60 worth of entertainment), but improvements are comingā¦ oh yes.
Anyway. Itās nice to have plants that drink like sailors, and grow like things that grow a lot. In August, Iād give these plants 250mL of water, once a week, and half of that would run through. In the past 3 days, the Chemdawg x Sunshine Daydream has taken 1.5 liters, no run-off. Yes, she needs to be repotted tomorrowā¦
Hereās my poor little Wreckage, comparing her in August to earlier this evening:
Sheās actually healthier than she looksā¦ the leaves are rather shiny Also, did you know that happy marijuana plants lay lemons?
that must be where the limonene terps come from then hahaha XD
lol wow it was sure beat up, did you place extra dead leaves on it for the picture ?! quite an amazing recovery !
Call her Lazarus, you desserve it ^^
Iām still compiling in my resinous brain all the (exhaustive) datas and pics of your equation. And I will keep my mouth closed until iām sure that something pop in my face. The only one thing that is lacking is shots of root mass, you barely covered any other possible traits to decypher imho.
Just by looking at how you were able to turn that plant back around and all the healthy growth, kind of suggests that the weed gods are smiling on you. Without looking for the answer further up in the thread, Whatās the beef with your LED? Too many plantsā¦oh no, thatās an awful position to be in. Specially since theyāre all healthy again.
Rather than cull it, can you move one outside in the surrounding area and let it finish out guerrilla style? Maybe pollinate her and throw out? Man I donāt know, but looking great.
Yeah, first world weed problems, I know. I feel bad killing off viable plants, especially ones in good health, but allow me to explain my current growing philosophyā¦
I have 3-ish strain categories Iām looking to fill:
- The Creativity and Focus strain. Probably sativa-dominant. Would be good if it puts a smile on my face, extra points if it doesnāt keep me up at night.
- The Knock-Out. Probably pure indica. Sleepytime pain relief, anti-inflammatory a plus.
- Difficulty: Expert. Psychedelic brain-scramble. Can involve some mellow but no lethargy.
The little Wreckage shown above (who is named Octavia, not Lazarus, sorry @Fuel ) is the current winner for āDifficulty: Expert.ā Easy and forgiving to grow, tasty to smoke, and makes the world weird enough to keep me amused. Great way to end the day.
ā¦ bringing it back to The Cull, Iāll probably keep the Lumpy Space Princess pheno of Space Candy around for a bit, though sheās got a shorter high than Wreckage and Sahara-level cotton mouth. Other Space Candy pheno is easier to grow and looks like damn fine bud, but the high is content-free chatty smiles. Itās dinner party weed. Might be more appealing to the occasional smoker Anyway, that one will probably get the axe, but if thereās room in the corner of my flower tentā¦
Anyway, hereās the state of the plants:
Repotted the larger Apollo 11 (center) into a 5-gallon bucket, still bushy as a beast.
The Chemdawg x Sunshine Daydream (back-center) is now in an 8-gallon pot. In addition to being rootbound, I overestimated the nutrient content of its soil. Should recover just fine with 8x the space and some light soil amendments, but not looking so hot now Iāll spend a few weeks making it wider instead of taller, and then onto 12/12 she goes.
Happy Mutant Blueberry will be repotted tomorrow (maybe 3 gallon, maybe 5 gallon). Her sisters are the giant-leafed monsters in the group shot, which will be subjected to longer-term training before flowering. Despite having 50% more branches, sheās the beanpole of the three.
End of the clone wars. Like I said, Iām searching for a certain something to keep in my collection, so I donāt flower anything unless Iāve got a clone in veg. In a week, Iāll take the cap off of their happy little domes, and a week after that, off comes the dome ā if they stand up, theyāre good to go. Otherwise, back under the dome and try again next week.
Hopefully my next update will be showing the new-and-somewhat-improved veg tent!
Like your timecube post, check this out. Good for creativity, focus not so much.
wtf! I fell like I was tripping back in the nineties again!! all that was missing was the dial up internet tone before seeing that website.
Are you seeing that dank-ass basil?
Next round of flowering is going to be interesting. Iām still training/pruning the Chemdawg x Sunshine Daydream (back center), but the transplant from 1 gallon to 8 gallon has led to a growth spurt I can barely keep up with Oops. The big Apollo 11 (dead center) has had its lower branches pruned, but itās getting wider rather than taller, so not sure how Iād train thatā¦ but I have a sneaking suspicion sheāll need some stakes.
Happy Mutant Blueberry doesnāt get a closeup today because it looks awkward after training. Iāll probably give her another week to get acclimated to her new pot, and then the 12/12 fun begins.
Thing isā¦ they all look so happy. There are some nice green hues in there. When those ladies all start showing autumn leaves, youāre in for a treat. Cheers
And so we conclude this tale of the Little Flower Tent That Vegged, and our life-long friends have a tearful goodbye. Hereās the parting shot of the four going to flower ā Chemdawg x Sunshine Daydream, Happy Mutant Blueberry, and a pair of Apollo 11.
They went nuts. Everything did. In the past 10 days, we changed seasons in this neck of the woods, and even though the tent is now on the chilly side (72Āŗf day, 64Āŗf night), that came with a humidity bump which put everything in a sweet spot. Vigorous, healthy growth. I swear that the ChemDxSSDD repaired its pre-repotting leaf damageā¦ Anyway, Iām in good shape for flowering those girls ā hope Weed Gods keep smiling upon me
The whorled phyllotaxy Blueberry no longer suffers from post-training awkwardness, but she did turn out exactly as Iād hoped:
ā¦ and last but not least, the original veg tent is back (in pog form). After my summer of awful vegging, I decided it was time to ditch my improvised cheap LED + T5 setup, and I decided to give @Baudelaireās SolStrips a whirl. In the end, he hooked me up with a complete, pre-assembled kit ā 6 strips in all, 5k temperature, and dimmable power supply.
My initial impression was āOH MY GOD IāM BLIND WHY DID I PLUG THEM IN WHEN THEYāRE FACING UP.ā Things were much better after I hung them up and turned down the current a bitā¦ itās shocking how cool they run, considering how much light they put out. Every so often, the future ends up being pretty neat.
Ahem.
As always, the thousand-word picture:
Iāve got a veg tent of growing, happy plants Itās only been a week, so I donāt have a sense of stuff like internodal distance under 5k, but the girls look happy, and Iām happy, too.
Wow! @oranje is killing it in here!
Very happy and well managed plants. Very impressive.
Stay hazed
Jake
Nice even canopy with all the different strains. I always have pots on top of pots to try to even things up. Iām excited to see where this goes from hereā¦ Starting a new thread for flowering?
Yep, hopefully will start to move more towards perpetual flower ā thatās the goal, so Iāll start my forever-in-flower thread soon. Iām still getting the hang of growing without liquid nutrients (yāknow, except for teas and other homemade concoctions), but hopefully theyāll stay healthy well into flower. Donāt curse me with compliments, @Blowingupjake
LOL - I need to add warning labels. I keep a pair of UV blocking safety glasses around at all times working with these lights.
The plants look great. The 5000K spectrum is perfect for vegging, the spectrum and lumen output keeps things squat and bushy. A few other growers have mentioned how it seems to even out the canopy even among different strains. How hard are you running them?
