Should I pick a number on the sign up list lower down the list?

Hey there OG. I have noticed a trend I though I might ask for others views on. When I see folks signing up for wikis it seems many go way down the list to add their names. This likely comes from many signing up all at once and a person not wanting to get an edit conflict. Now when thinking about this I have to wonder if folks are really helping themselves by doing this. If the person making the seeds ends up with a limited amount for one reason or another I would imagine they would be offered up in the order the list was in until they were gone. So for example if you jumped down and took spot 50 on the list while there were still 40 empty spots above you than you would be letting 40 people that signed up after you in line in front of you. Now let’s say the seeds run out at spot 45? You could literally be taking away your own opportunity to get said seeds. Now while this may save a few minutes of frustration while everyone is signing up at once it does seem to open a person up to the possibility of getting nothing. While I would think it’s not something that is likely to happen it still could. What are your thoughts on this?

I figure on a seed run there should be plenty of seeds for everyone. That said, I still put my name near to the top but not necessarily right into the next spot.

I think that is the expectation and not an unreasonable one. I am just thinking of the what if is all. I am bad for that  Cause and effect…

Also, OG is such a sharing community that even if I didn’t manage to get seeds from a run I know I’d be able to trade/get some so no big deal.

Makes sense but won’t be the case if very limited supply is available and a sought after strain. I am sure there had to be runs where things didn’t work out well even though they are likely few and far between. A bit surprised how few people have an opinion, oh well, guess I am the only one who ever wondered what would happen. I do tend to overthink things watching for all possible outlooks but as you say, it is no big deal :v:

I figure, if it’s a stable strain, it’ll get reproduced again; if not, the seeds from the run will be a crapshoot like all F2s, and I don’t love pheno hunting enough for it to be a big deal. Most of the strains I’m signing up for won’t be run any time soon, so I deliberately sign up lower on the list.

That makes sense. I suppose I see many with a higher degree of urgency. For example the Sour Diesel seed run, 171 sign ups, 492 edits, lol.

Always go for 69.

Seriously though, ive defaulted to near the middle of the list to avoid overwrites for awhile now. I also havnt signed up for anything for awhile now so ::shrugs::

I usually try to grab slot #13 every time if possible heh. That being said, I do see how picking a lower slot could turn into a problem and here is one example:

Sebring send me Blockberry fem seeds and blockberry fem pollen. When I had got them in the mail I instantly tossed the pack of seeds into “The Pile” and put the pack of pollen right into a glass medical tube with rubber stopper and into the freezer. Just the other day I decided to take a peak at it since I have all sorts of projects in the works/on the horizon and needed to put eyes on the pollen to finalize plans. I soon found out that the pack was not packed with pollen like I had hoped and it was just a handful of mail flowers from the reversal that produced them.

Very honored to get this preservation pack, but I am worried that I wont have enough pollen to make enough seeds to give away in mass. So now I am trying to decide if I should just grow/reverse one so I have enough pollen for a bigger seed run or just hope I get enough with what I got.

I would hate to start a wiki/diary for the project and it only be able to supply 10% of the list in the end.

Lol ya I saw that as well. Explains why I got edited out at some point sadly.

I dunno if putting your name further down on the list does anything to help with overwrites really. If you and I start editing at the same time, and you save first, I save next and just blindly hit continue, you’re gone anyway since your version and my version didnt contain either of us at first. And mine is the last saved. . Its about the timing of the edits too, not so much that someone is deliberately deleting someone else (and that would be kinda shitty of they did that, but I dont think it happens here).

People just gotta read what pops up on the screen to avoid overwrites really.

Dougs point is well taken though, if there’s an issue, you might be screwing yourself vs getting a lower number cause you could have…

Yeah I don’t do it for the “edits” reason cause like has been pointed out. 2 people editing at the same time will cause issues no matter what. I don’t know why I usually go down into the 30s or lower.

But as far as screwing myself over, eh, oh well. Yes there’s many strains I’d LOVE to have a chance at but if I don’t get them for that reason then I guess some higher power decided it was best for me not to have them lol. I guess I’m not as big kid n the name game thing with cannabis as most. Yes a name normally means a certain level of quality, but in todays world of pollen chuck breeders, and also these runs being F2 or greater, there are no guarantees. I just want to grow decent herb for myself, I don’t care if what I have would be top shelf or low grade kids, if I like the overall effects then I could careless what it’s called or who else would like it.

I just look at it as the luck of the draw, being in a totally different country and time zone doesn’t help.

That is why the are two list. One list for TL3 and one for TL2. The first list will be filled first if there aren’t enough for TL2.

I personally would divide by how many people I asked to sign up by how many seeds I have.

I do it for the edit thing and I like numbers divisible by 5.
