Power meters who has and use?

Hello fellas,

I wonder who has a power meter that could give me and any others the insight of grow lights power draw.

I would like to know if possible the draw of:
-150w hps with magnetic ballast

  • 150w hps with digital ballast
  • any led lamp draw at 100%
  • the same led lamp at 50%

I guess with this info we may choose better a set or even go to the best setting when it comes to power draw.

I will try to keep this post updated making a chart with the input values you send for better comparison.

Thank you in advance.

Hlg scorpion far red rspec - 709 watt draw at 100%

There’s no 50% setting, but 5 out of 10 clicks is 475 watts.

The old Kill A Watt meter, is what the shop owner would use when I did not believe that a digital ballast was cheaper to run than the magnetic ballast. He was correct. Not huge, but less power use for sure.

I have the same that @JustANobody has.

For each room i have an excel sheet with the max draw of each item on the circuit so i can see the added up total draw.

Everything is also on surge protectors so if i fuck up it’s turning a powerbar back on vs the breaker.

I use the Kill A Watt meter to check draw from my DiY lights when I first build them, and when I turn the potentiometer down for various reasons. Mainly to see If theres any change in growth accordingly.

Kill o Watt.
One of those cheap power bars with the short cord is handy when you want get a reading with the meter.
Also, those meters also have a “watt hour” function which is handy if you want an idea of your daily usage.
