the original proto was designed so that a paper match (with the head removed), could be folded in half and fed through the stem with the poker to clean out the tar in the stem, I am not sure if this version has that feature or ability but I thought I would pass on the info in case it helped. As I recall the stem of the proto that I had needed to be cleaned regularly, in order to avoid a surprise mouthful of resin when hitting the pipe. I also recall a Dr. Atomic underground comic called " “Dr Atomic’s Pipe and Dope Book”, an underground comic by Larry Todd that extolled the virtues and features of the proto pipe
I remember these from the 90s always wanted one I just never had the 40 bucks they cost back then that was 2 CD’s or like 3 tanks of gas

Brass doesn’t impart any taste
it’s a real shame so many pipe manufacturers switched to aluminum the old brass stuff is the best just heavy
I used a pipe cleaner. It worked great. You can grab the other end and pull it through easily, or pull it back out. I have done both ways so far and didn’t get any residual in my mouth on the next hit. So far so good.
This actually is not that heavy. Not like the older ones were. The also have a Popeye style pipe too in brass.
I like old brass bats the weight of them makes them tap the ash out in one tap
I agree about the ease of clearing the ash.
That is one thing with this pipe. You can tap some of it out, but to get it all out you need the poker, or at least for the cleanliness I want.
It is a trade off, easier emptying or lighter weight and easier carry.
Just got mine the other day, like I said before, had one in high-school. It has been lost to time. I have been smoking out of it, and cleaning tediously. Love this thing. Very functional and a great take and go. Just don’t get to stoned to forget to pack the stash tube. I prefer grinding herb up for the tube, always have. Seems like I can get four to five nicely packed bowls per load of tube.
