I generally concur but with mild trepidation.
I just want to see with my own eyes the Bugbee studies along with the cultivars used. He’s very open about just how much variation there is between cultivars (aka strains, chemotypes, genotypes, use whatever word fits best).
Perhaps, and I’m just making shit up… but perhaps those genes which evolved in high UV environments (at high altitude) have “programs” installed to “react” to UVA/B/C. The programs switch on and trichomes enlarge to better shade the plant tissue. Calluses caused by friction being not so different. Protect the meat. Perhaps Bugbee isn’t studying those. He isn’t studying drug-type cannabis at USU, I know that for sure.
Perhaps the plant can make up-to, and not-more-than, some concentration of secondaries within any one trichome, and were all trying to hit the limit. And nutrition is a limiting factor, and when you limit a set of plants under study with 20-10-20 you cap cannabinoid potential so much that what you’re studying is irrelevant (or manipulative when you have a public policy goal in mind, like DON’T mess with UV (biological insult that you cannot feel happening), and STOP using so much P (waterway pollutant, limited resource).
Edit… Humans have these UV programs installed too. Well, most of us do (sorry albino friends) but the degree to which humans can tan and not get burned is WIDE. Are we studying albino people here, are we studying people from northern Ireland? Mediterranean? Sub-saharan africa? Show me the studies and cultivars before I go buy a new FR light!!!

please link me to where he talks about variation in cultivars. his cpl has 17 low thc strains in house, mebbe as many as 20 now since this # was from a vid couple years back. heres all his published research
don’t matter. 2 genes control cbd vs. thc production. 2 out of thousands. all research on cbd plants applies to thc plants.
Yield and cannabinoid percentages are the metrics reported in his results.
Yes, it matters a lot. Smell, flavor, and effect are all subjective qualities that I look for in weed. I also grow for hash and rosin, which is a totally different product.

Ah I was just having this discussion the other week.
It seems according to bugsby when it comes to lighting, only sufficient PAR matters for cannabinoid production, and spectrum/uva/uvb mean nothing and don’t affect production at all. The genetics will produce what they will produce regardless of lighting as long as all other factors are met and have at least sufficient par for growth. Light only affects yield apparently.
I also take issue with his methods and I take most things with a grain of salt until I’ve tested it myself.

I harvested the flower room Sunday at day 63 exactly. Sorry, I didn’t take any pictures, my hands got quite sticky. I kept a couple tops from each of the four plants, and froze the remaining buds for a total of 2132 grams wet. I’ll have more grow stats as the tops dry and I begin making the hash. The first batch of hash could happen as early as Thursday night.
I used the Grove Bags fresh frozen bags this time. I have to admit, they seem to work better than regular freezer bags. They are huge, however. I could easily fit a couple kilograms in each bag. I went a head and ordered a few more, along with the one-ounce bags. I’m sold on these instead of jars. I usually hook my brother up with an ounce or two from each grow, this way I don’t have to worry about getting my jars back.
I still some cleaning and maintenance to do in the flower room. I need to clean and mop the floor, then I want to soak my drippers in vinegar, and finally clean the Blumat carrots. My next couple of runs will be an auto breeding project in containers, so the beds will rest for a bit.
I was scrolling through IG earlier and I stumbled on this post from Slownickel.
According to this perspective, my Mg and K were both low this last round. I had about 83% Ca, 8% Mg, 4% K, and 1 % Na. I was following the calcareous worksheet from Solomon’s book The Intelligent Gardener. That worksheet had me target 85% Ca, 5% Mg, 3% K (table lookup), 1% Na. Next time, I’ll try pushing the Mg and K higher and lay off the Ca a bit.

I have to say Grove bags are just far superior to jars, these days all weed that stays as flower for smoking once it hits 12% moisture, it goes in grove bags and is heat sealed, not once have I opened a bag that was not bang on the money.
Haven’t seen their freezer bags, going to have to take a look, thanks for pointing out - but being in the UK, we normally have to sell a kidney and possibly a bit of liver to buy anything from the US

Nice man we could all use some alternatives to these $150-200 Carbon filters. Like 5 companies with a monopoly on our exhaust. Just wasted $ every 12 months. Every other part of my setup i feel “ok” about the cost & options… but those filters really grind my gears
Basil, parsley, and dill are in it now. Yeah, it’s at the office. I have a six site one for the home, but I have yet to set that one up.
