isn’t the issue that late flowering stem tissue doesn’t like to throw new roots? i’ve never successfully cloned past like week 3 or 4. would it be better to wrap the stem before snipping? get roots growing before i detach it from the plant, i mean?

edit
Search turns up tons of results saying week 3-4 is about the latest for monster cropping, which is typically what is quoted for maximum time to clone anyway. I’m in week 6 in a few days, so it’s far too late for me. TBH, I never even had a name for it, but I always wait until my plants are sexed to clone them anyway…ie- week 3. I always just called it “patience”. It’s weird to me how many people use these fancy new names for the tried and true methods growers have always been doing anyway.

Must be several lightyears, @lightyear. Which site were we on together? Old stoner syndrome is large this morning. :older_man:

Thank you for dropping a novel propagation method for the class. I’m looking forward to your efforts.

That is called air layering.

Most likely breedbay or hemp cultivation. I spent most of my time there

Ah, now I know I’ve heard of air layering before. thank you very much!!

I agree. The links made it sound like it was a sparkling new idea. It will work on woody shrubs like crotons. We used to make hundreds of air layers to preserve some unusual varieties of crotons.

Yeah it sure was! I was just getting my feet wet then, and OG was still around. Marc Emery hadn’t been arrested. Shops in Cali were being raided weekly. Seed orders were getting snatched up by the feds still.

We’ve come a long way in these 20 years, my friend. So glad to see old friends are still at it! :green_heart:

btw, if I’m not mistaken, HC was bought, changed hands a few times, and lives on as marijuana dot com now.

Sorry, air layering isn’t new, but the topic of this conversation IS still new, and nothing to do with air layering. Air layering is second, more reliable option to back up my plant just in case root cloning doesn’t work. Root cloning is the topic of this conversation, and it’s a relatively untouched method when it comes to cannabis, as far as I can tell.

I plan to do both methods. Air layering is a sure bet. Root cloning just sounds so interesting I can’t possibly pass up an opportunity to try. I’ve got a few weeks of flower left, so when harvest time comes I’ll be giving it a shot. But now is a great time to start with air layering, since it takes a few weeks for roots to grow and I need the donor to be alive.
