A distant relation of @Pigeonman? Kind of good looking.

It almost looks alien

I agree. And yet in the portrait you can so clearly see a bird’s beak. Or an octopus. Perhaps a squid too? Others? I just like it.

Evolution leads to so many wild solutions. That crest has to be to attract a mate.

A family friend close when I was a child was sterilized by the state against her will in the 50s. As were many institutionalized folk.

That is heartbreaking. Eugenics was practiced widely in the US last century

Until into at least the mid 1950s, in some states hysteria was considered a real medical condition. Its diagnosis was exclusive to women. Did you know that the vibrator was the fifth electrical device ever marketed?

I like period piece movies that are well done. I liked this one.

It’s definitely cool if you have a full compliment of them!

I think I’m building new ones. I’m my own personal neuroplastition, don’t ya know.

I did neuropsych evaluations years ago. Back then they were finally figuring out the the brain can repair itself.

I remember watching a Forensic Files where they estimated the time of death based on the presence of brain healing proteins (I think proteins.)

Eg still alive if trying to heal itself.

There’s room for science humor on this thread too

I found this a fascinating article. In some ways it reminds me of research on how exactly geckos are able to walk up virtually any surface. It’s so amazing! And downright cool imo.

This is really cool. Evolution provides amazing answers to nature’s challenges.

I’ve read where the same moth genes express as legs in the caterpillar stage but spots in the adult moth stage (in one particular breed of caterpillar).

how about when the moths in london changed their color to match nature during the early years of the industrial revolution. went from white to black, or darker, i forgot exactly. nature is pretty cool.

I agree. It’s a very contemporary example of adaptation.

Perhaps the classic example of environmental adaptation.
