Seed Run Co-Op: Maui Mango Haze (CLOSED)

:face_with_symbols_over_mouth::face_with_symbols_over_mouth::face_with_symbols_over_mouth::face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

I have more pollen waiting to be collected, but there is no low humidity in Oklahoma in August.

Since there’s not a good way to dry this batch, it sounds like a use it or lose it deal.

Next time I’ll be better prepared. :triumph:

This is something I’ve wondered about a bit too. Once I get settled down I was wanting to chuck a little pollen as well, but living in florida there is no such thing as low humidity. Probably going to have to use everything I get right away or figure out how to dry it well.

Sad to say done  great that you can collect more :tada: Awesome
I put mine in a open container and piece of cheese cloth covering it for a few days. some people dry flour in the microwave and add it to the pollen I Have not tried this !
I Have put grains of rice in with it to try and eliminate moisture

Peace

Can it be dried in a lower temperature oven ? I think that was my problem with grape pie pollen wasn’t dry and failed .

The best thing since I bought my laptop was joining OG, IMO OG is the absolute best seed bank globally.
Then you have @Guitarzan running such a fine operation. Every one of them plants look like free range happy California cows. With all that being said, of course I put my seed whore ass on the list!:hugs:

P.S. rip Biggus Dickus, and thank you for spreadith your nuttith across our beanith. Your progeny’s will long livith your spoogeith…:nerd_face:

the flour only adds bulk or fluff to make your pollen go out further instead of concentrated on a dab.

Just for FYI minute rice don’t cut the cake, theres a different rice to use.

no, no assisted heat means.

Scatter the pollen do not line up it in rows or make little piles with it until completely dry.
An air conditioned house should be plenty dry.
An air conditioner is a dehumidifier.

Another reason I do what I do in the fall to early spring.
No bugs, no mold, less humidity, nothing but gravey.

Definite advantages to climate in some seasons. I wouldn’t attempt it in Florida without that dehumidifier even in an air conditioned home. In Arizona you could probably do it anytime of year. At least as far as the dry pollen goes.

I already ordered one. :+1: It’ll be here tomorrow. In the meantime I collected the rest of the pollen. It was powder, no clumps I could see, so I sifted the plant matter out of it.

My wife does aromatherapy, and she has these dark brown glass bottles with a sealing cap. I transferred the pollen into one of those and dumped a bunch of rice in with it. I did NOT put it in the freezer. :grinning: It’s sitting in the cupboard.
The rice was the only thing I could think of to try and hold it until my dehumidifier gets here tomorrow.

I guess we’ll see. :pray:t4: :pray:t4: :pray:t4:

Those things have been working wonders for me. I put a cheap humidity sensor into a well sealed sterilite gasket box and usually it hovers around 45-50% humidity to start and then after 1-2 days it’s down at 10-15%. Those boxes also seal well enough that I can keep pollen viable for like 6-9months, and only have to recharge every 2-3 months when I see the humidity start creeping up.

You put the pollen in the bottles this time while still wet?

Solid plan right here. Seems like a good setup to initially dry the pollen before storage.

I look for one of those the other day. I think you mentioned you ordered yours online, so I’ll have to do that and get my ass out of the Stone Age.

You can still dry pollen. Even with a 95% death rate, you’ll still have plenty of pollen to use. I “dried” some Durban pollen for several days during our heat wave not long ago. Humidity above 80%. I then mailed it to Ohio. It sat in an envelope for a week or more as well. It was still viable. Had I freezed it after those 3 days of drying, I think some of it probably still would have been good if I broke it out today. But certainly that mini dehydrator is the cat’s ass. Thanks Lefty!

I think you’ll be fine. Didn’t that male bust a nut in that room? Just the residual pollen in that room would probably be enough to do the job. I’ve heard countless stories of people that end up with seeds and they had no idea where they came from. It was always from a male that was in the room weeks earlier. 1 pollen sack in front of your fan, er, I mean “pollenation dispersal system” and there could be plenty of seeds just from that. But that male didn’t look ready to give up to me. I think he’s still horny

I tap my male flowers over wax paper. After getting rid of all the little bits of crap that gets mixed in with it with a credit card, I spread the pollen back out on the wax paper, and just put it in a dark Airy place. You don’t want it to sit in a pile, it needs to be spread out to dry.

Oh yeah, I’m not really worried about the seeds. I shook him 4 times, and he fogged the tent each time. I was just wanting to get some pollen in case anyone wanted some.

Next time will be different!!

Lacking a dehydrator in a humid climate I would think a brown paper sack in a refrigerator would do for a substitute. Should dry out just fine in a few days. Haven’t tried it yet though.

Thanks for quoting lefthandseeds in there too! I remember reading that now, but it slipped from my mind. Gonna have to bookmark that one lol.
