I feel you. Our time is sacred and when someone takes advantage of others in that regard it brings a sadness near. Public awareness of who and what’s happening I think is important, so others in the community can be more aware and also to show those who may attempt to do such things that our doors aren’t metaphorically “open”. Rather, that we as a community practice due diligence in having the open conversations when trades aren’t fulfilled. Public opinion type thing.
It’s not perfect because it’s online and people if they want to be disingenuous can try scheme seeds off generous and giving individuals. It’s a reality of this platform unfortunately. Not just this website at Overgrow, but the anonymous nature one can utilize on the Internet should they choose so.
Just trying to figure how to best move forward where we’re creating opportunities for each other within the community. Many blessings and much love
Yeah definitely. I don’t think I’ve ever been screwed over in a trade here and I’ve done a lot. But I like to see site participation. Having your own thread/journal, or participating in someone else’s. Not sitting in here and/or the free seeds thread, Doug’s giveaway thread, or similar, as the only real post history. I get a few people like that hit me up every now and then and I won’t even respond most of the time.
We have a thread that lists seed banks to avoid, why not a similar thread for members to avoid trading seeds? Not blasting them, but publicly acknowledging someone not making good on a trade. Not cool to get stiffed.
Edit: I see some elements of this has already been discussed above.
There have been many suggestions on how to remedy the situation. All to no avail as trading is “at your own risk”. I can certainly understand how they don’t want a bunch of arguing and negativity on site, I don’t either but I would like to see some sort of resolution for bad actors other than none at all.
Will I rally for that…,…. Nope!
It has been discussed to death and I am sure not all the mods agree with that decision either but rules are rules.
I did think it was wrong to see it did matter when it came to site funds and not members funds though.
Other shoe and all that……,.
I have to agree with you…and as a new member that’s not easy to say. I’m kind of new here too, but not new to forums.
I have been sending out a lot too and not too much is coming back to me. I’m tempted to say, half of what I should get doesn’t make it…or even more.
I agree about having a way of warning others not to fall for those who take advantage of the system.
Which is tricky, because if the post office fucks up, there’s no way for the sender to prove it.
Also there can be other circumstances leading to something getting lost, like bad packaging or typo’s, etc.
I think if there’s proper rules everyone has to agree to, about in what manner to send out the goods, a lot of confusion can be avoided to start with.
Just an idea: a pic of the seeds/envelope wouldn’t hurt in the communication, that alone would throw a few scammers off I think. Because those are lazy people…if someone shows you a washer full of seeds in a coinflip next to the envelope with your addy on it…thats a long way most scammers won’t be willing to walk! We should enforce it
My gut tells me a rating sysyem for reliable members might work better then pointing out others…I feel like this would cause too much unwanted drama.
I’d like to hear your ideas of how to make trading safer!!
Edit: I forgot to mention…I also get ghosted a lot after seeds arrived to where I sent them. This is really annoying. Isn’t that standard to let the trade partner know everything went well?
I have ideas on that but they are irrelevant and not even worth the effort to post them as they will never happen. I’m not going to beat a dead horse, and in this case there is only a skeleton left!
Could someone please tell me where I can open this page so people can see that I’m an honest trader… @doober I just read you did one yourself…where’s that at?
