Silver Mountain co-op run (closed)

So, I took the pics Sunday but apparently completely forgot to post them… I guess we’re a little past update time, but we can still think of this as starting week 8, because that’s when the pics are from. :stuck_out_tongue: We also did defol yesterday, but I’m too lazy to go in and get new pics. Here’s the group shot:

Individuals, they’re all just finishing up now… I took a closer sniff yesterday while we were doing defol and I can try to be a bit more specific on how they each smell. #2 is mostly sweet, but with a little undertone of spiciness coming through; I can smell it quite clearly, but my partner just gets sweet from it. #5 has almost no smell at this point; it’s just barely sweet. Maybe there’s a little bit of woodiness to the smell, judging from the defol, but I wasn’t getting any of that from just smelling the buds. It could also be that’s a blind spot, I expect my house smells a fair bit like wood anyway since it’s all wooden floors and mostly wooden furniture? Dunno, but I’m not getting much from it, at any rate. #3 is very sweet, but also seems to have some undertones of… something? I dunno, it’s mostly sweet though. Of course, this is the plant that didn’t smell at all sweet when it was seeded, mostly rank and spicy smells, so idk, I could just be terrible at judging smells. There’s also two GG4 RILs and a MAC1 in there, of course, so I could be getting confused by them at times. :person_shrugging: The MAC1 is fruity/spicy and the GG4 RILs are… dank? No idea how to describe precisely what Glue smells like even after a few years of growing it, other than it smells like Glue.

Today I learned something important… it’s Sunday, not Saturday, so I have an appointment tomorrow morning rather than two days from now. :stuck_out_tongue: The plants don’t care, but since I’ll be gone tomorrow I took some rather hurried pics today before lights out rather than waiting to forget it again. So yeah, starting week 9, group pic:

Dunno if it’s because I’m having trouble smelling today or what, but #2 hardly seems to smell anymore, I can catch a faint whiff of spice but hardly any sweet anymore… and it’s all more subdued than last week. #5 is also pretty bland-smelling lately, though that’s the same as last week. #3 smells the same as last week.too, sweet with a bit of a heavier, dank smell. Could just be that they’re finishing, most plants tend to settle down a bit on smells in the last weeks. Probably time to start checking trichs, though I doubt there’s enough amber for us right now - still, better to be sure since this is the first sensi grow for most of these. Anyway, here’s the individuals.

Did you cut the food way back ?
Looks great

I haven’t top-dressed for two weeks, but otherwise everything’s the same as the last few months; I’m in organic soil though, so skipping the last few weeks of amendments shouldn’t really impact the food that’s available to them right now. I skipped the epsom as well, when I give them epsom during the last few weeks the soil ends up killing most smaller clones or seedlings I put in for the next grow. Or do you mean cut back from last grow with the seeded plants, rather than cutting back from earlier in this one? If that’s what you mean, I haven’t changed the food at all relative to that one. :person_shrugging:

I flushed once for two weeks. It turned a beautiful crop into crap. No smell, no sticky terrible

I’ll give it a try feeding a few plants normally through till the end next time, though it doesn’t make much sense to me - as far as I know it takes over two weeks for the food to even start breaking down and becoming bioavailable. Most of what would be available quickly is nitrogen, and we don’t want them getting much nitrogen in flower, especially at the end, right?

Yes lower nitrogen at the end. I was just asking because the one time I tried flushing, exactly what you described happened. When I keep feeding the smell doesn’t diminish.

Update time… it looks like I screwed the pooch pretty good on this one. Starting week 10, and no sign of finishing any time soon; now would be a good time to go back in time and feed them again, probably. Ugh. The other plants are finishing up as expected, we’ll probably take them down next week. Oh well, here’s the group shot:

And individuals; I didn’t really bother checking the smell, but I’d assume nothing’s changed. Can’t really turn the ship with organics at this point. None of the Silver Mountains have any cloudy trichs yet, not even #3, which has looked mostly done for 4-5 weeks now. There goes it being a quick finisher.

Looking good!

Organics is always tough to get the feed right.

Personally, I don’t mind them being so starved they almost die on the vine by the end.

Yield suffers but sometimes those ones that use every last but of what they’ve got are some of the best smoke.

Cheers

That was oddly abrupt… last week my partner said the Silver Mountains were all clear trichs; this week #3 is milky with about 50% amber, while #2 and #5 are both 75/25 milky/clear. Were, rather. We chopped them all yesterday. Maybe I didn’t screw the pooch that badly after all, though the Glues in back definitely were using all their food and could’ve used more; the Silver Mountains were just starting to lose bottom leaves, though, so that worked out pretty well. Here’s the last group pic:

Last individual pics; the Silver Mountain swelled a fair bit in the last week too, so they’re looking a bit better. They all smelled pretty good; I wet trimmed a few buds that ended up on the floor and they all have that sweet, almost perfumey smell that I’ve come to associate with ocimene - not that I’ve had these lab tested, so it’s pretty much guesswork, but it seems like a strong guess based on all the descriptions I’ve read of it online. Maybe all those descriptions are written by people who’ve never had their buds tested and are going off descriptions they read online too, though. :stuck_out_tongue: Anyway, here’s the individuals:

Next few weeks will probably be occupied trimming and moving pots/lights around for the next grow, but we’ve actually started shucking seeds as well! I didn’t take a pic of them, but there’s about 500 on the tray to dry so far. Hopefully within the month we’ll have at least 3-5k available to send in. I guess I’ll also have a smoke report if anyone’s curious, and we’re gonna keep some seeds separated by mother as well.

Hola! Super stoked that you were able to complete your preservation run! The fun part of seed schucking and separating haha… man that was some work the one time i’ve done it.

Thanks for your time and effort in this project!

Definitely curious. Love anything with SSH. They look like the perfect ripeness to me.

Absolutely. And thank you.

Will this run be in the Spring box?

Definitely not looking forward to the rest of it. :frowning: It’s not difficult, but tedious and messy, two of my least favorite things. In theory this was going to be easier with my partner helping, otherwise I wouldn’t have done a run this large in the first place. He’s the one who suggested another month of veg once we put them into 10g pots, when I was going to just flip them immediately. Now… it’s causing a little friction, let’s put it that way.

Yes, it should be. I absolutely guarantee that I’ll have at least 3k seeds shucked and sent in to the co-op within the next 3-4 months, even if I have to do it all myself and end up without a partner in the future as a consequence. Extenuating circumstances include being hospitalized with a crippling injury, death, or prison; so maybe I can’t absolutely guarantee it, since tomorrow’s never a guarantee, but if it’s within my power it’ll be done.

So, on to a nicer topic, smoke report! My partner didn’t show up last weekend, so only #3 has been partially trimmed, but I’ve been taking small samples here and there from #2 and #5 in the meantime. First off, the bad news: #5 is pretty much trash. I smoked a full bowl to the head yesterday morning, then after about 10 minutes I wasn’t sure if I was high at all so I smoked the rest of what was on that small branch. Basically nothing. It might be a slightly satisfying high for a first-time smoker, but it’s a waste of time for me. This is the third or fourth time I’ve tried a bowl, because the first time I was tired and ended up taking a nap shortly after smoking it. I thought it might have been some couchlockiness, but I’ve now concluded it wasn’t, I was just tired. :person_shrugging:

#3 has been trimmed for a week now, and I’ve been sampling pretty extensively. I like it; it’s definitely not as strong as GG4 on the raw THC, which is not really a surprise, but it does boost my mood a little bit. Not quite the same as the first one I tried, but it’s more of a social, buzzy high than a deeper, introspective type like GG4; and with a shorter profile and denser buds this one might actually be a keeper. Dunno, it’s got lots of competition suddenly, since I picked up a few more clones in the meantime; and the buds still aren’t actually really dense, just denser compared to the other two. That won’t necessarily be a dealbreaker, but I’m not sure it measures up to other keepers on yield, which could be. It’s got nice, sweet-smelling terpenes that end up tasting kinda like menthol on the exhale somehow. It’s nice, and even when I’m already rocking an indica high it seems to get me higher, while smoking more indica wouldn’t do much. I guess that’s what people refer to as a ceiling? Not sure this has one, but if so I haven’t reached it yet. I guess that can be as much about body chemistry as anything else, but that’s how it seems to me. I still haven’t gotten my partner’s input on it, since he’s been MIA.

As far as #2, I’ve only smoked one bowl of it prior to this; I just went and trimmed a few smaller branches to pack another one. It felt like the previous one was definitely a decent high, but I didn’t pay as much attention as I could have, since I figured we’d have all three plants trimmed by now and I could sample freely from jars. Anyway… I’ve cleaned out the bong so I can get a fresh taste, with no resin-clogged filters to pull through. In fact, it seems I forgot the filter altogether, so this was a much harsher hit than I expected and I can’t really tell you about the taste right now. :stuck_out_tongue: It’s pretty light, airy bud, especially since I trimmed off some of the bottom branches where it was basically just larf. It definitely gets the job done though, just as I felt before. Seems like a nice, clear-headed high… I’m energetic, but not bouncing around, just feel like if I decided to do something I’d have plenty of energy for it. This feels like my idea of “work weed.” I’m not so high that I’m distracted, there’s no body high or couchlock to make me lazy, but it’s a nice background-level high that just takes the edge off while leaving me completely functional. Nothing really inspiring to say about it, tbh. :person_shrugging: If the next two hours turn into a giggle-fest, or I see any pink/purple flying unicorns battling Mothra in the sky, I’ll be sure to let you guys know.

Thank you for the excellent detailed smoke report.

Agree with Myrtle. Excellent details in your smoke report. “Work weed” is my go-to for daytime. Once cured, i bet you’ve got some great bud there.
Thank you for doing all the work to make seeds!

Oh my, sorry to hear of the unfortunate situation :frowning: Hopefully it all works out in a positive manner. The tedium of it is the worst, I honestly don’t even remember doing all the work when I did a preservation lol… maybe my memory mind was like… nope… that goes in the trash. No need to remember that. Lol

Thanks for sharing your smoke experiences as well! I’ve still got a smidge of silver mountain f2 buds i’m being able to enjoy, but they are nearing the end of their time on this earth.
