Spaceman’s First Holiday Auto Run

We have a specialist in this matter: @ReikoX, I followed some of his experiments with autos and that’s why I say it is quite complicated, this is what he said:

Thanks. That is what I was looking for.

Update:
An unexpected comment from one of my kid’s teachers has brought huge detour to this grow for which I apologize.
The odor from these plants evidently is so strong that it got in my family’s clothes, when my kid asked his teacher about a job opportunity he’d applied for the teacher said, “Don’t expect to get many offers since you smell like a pot shop.”
!
My kid is as big a nerd as you can imagine, doesn’t drink, smoke or even swear.
So I had to pass these plants onto a buddy to grow out. I plan on still tracking their growth and hope to provide pics but I’m not gonna be able to control the day to day which is the whole purpose of this diary.
This weekend is a long one for me and I have to revamp my ventilation to exhaust it outdoors which is costly from the sense of I’ll be exhausting warm, heated air outside in the dead of winter.

My tents (2) have their own homemade charcoal filters and hold about 40oz each of charcoal and they are also in my furnace room which I thought would combust that air in the furnace keeping the smell out of the main floor.
But it’s been warm here and the furnace hasn’t been running as much that I guess allowed the smell to migrate into the rest of the house.
This sucks.
I haven’t been as excited growing plants since my first grow as I have these two.
I have an almost allergic reaction to dank funk skunk weed and I got none of that from these wonderful plants yet here I am.

Once I get the venting run I plan on popping some more and will be posting their progress here.

In the meantime I plan on visiting my buddy often and will write up what happens.

Sorry…

ps,
I chopped the male LocoMota stuck it in a glass of water, put it in an airtight cooler and a small led and have collected some serious pollen.

Oh wow, sorry for the snag. I hope you elget it resolved. Phresh filters have always worked well for me.

The smell wasn’t apparent to me unless I opened the tents.
So I acclimated quickly.
When I returned from travelling I was dog tired and didn’t notice much except my head hitting the pillow.
Really wonderful smelling but clinging apparently.

Venting only needs assembly.
A single Corsair Air Series SP120 Quiet Edition 120mm High Static Pressure fan will port the air of both tents.
Heat not an issue, only odor control.
At least that’s the plan.

The below photo requires some explanation.
Friday Jan. the 3rd I dunked what was left from an order I made with a local.
5 each:
Shiva Shanti
Himalayan Gold and
Northern Lights
Also on that day I dunked 5 Sebring’s Maui Sunshine.

The Shiva Shanti, Himalayan Gold and Northern Lights all resisted sprouting the first week, M. Sunshine had 3 beans pop and are in pots(pics later).

In the above pic the petri name TJ Outdoor 2019 is the only seed(one!) I recovered from my outdoor clones this past summer. Dunked 1/19.
No idea how that is possible considering the odds against that happening.
Also dunked 1/19 - 4 Purple Hearts.

Backstory:
The Shiva Shanti, Himalayan Gold and Northern Lights have at least one seed slowly emerging root with the NL actually extending a root tip.
On Jan. 11th I gave up that these seeds would sprout at all so I exposed them to 36 hrs. of the Ebner Electrostatic Field Generator I made for my first topic here at OG](The Ebner Effect on Cannabis seed).
They have been rinsed every other day with fresh, Zerowater filtered and magnetically aligned water.
More on MA in a later post.
I actually just started the MA water last Wed.

The locally obtained seed has been a near total failure in that the 3 other 5packs only produced ONE seed.
They may not be in business after licenses are parceled out, so I won’t trash them here.
More later…

Update, long overdue.

Managed to break away from the constant construction project my home has turned out to be to visit the recipient of these plants and took some quick pics.

First we have Purple Heart 2 which seed looked to my eye to be a total dud, now the largest of the plants, smaller pot too.
This one had the fattest leaves I ever lamped.

Next is Purple Heart 1, the first seed to sprout,

Closer up

Last is Loco Mota female, I hit this one hard with the male before donating with the agreement I get 1/2 the seed.
It won’t make enough seed for a giveaway but maybe after I cross the kids.

Can’t see the seed from this quickie but they are there.

Addendum.
The Shiva Shanti, Himalayan Gold and Northern Lights from above have been potted - all have failed to produce a sprout, I am prepared to wait a week or two longer before recycling the soil in their pots.
These genetics, if genuine, would be a welcome addition to my seed bank, micro seed bank that is.
The Tj, two Purple Hearts are chasing the three Maui Sunshines.
Pics later.

So here’s my grow, reloaded the charcoal filters and put vaportek disks on each with a ionizer that is rated for twice the room area.

The top two and middle plant are Sebring’s Maui Sunshine, the other two are his Purple Hearts.
The Maui’s are somewhat aromatic, and I need the vaportek’s.
Transplanted them yesterday into 1 gal pots.
I was a little concerned about the Purp Hearts but they look better than yesterday
I had an accident with the outdoor TJ and she’ll probably end up in the compost.

Two Loco Mota’s in the other tent, ready to pop.

The 30 seeds I bought and the twelve freebies that came with it all failed to pop except one.
purealtitude seeds in Detroit was the source.
My first experience buying from them was excellent, which is why I bought from them the second time.
Kinda like the stock market; “past performance is no guarantee of future results” or some crap.
I manage to lose money there too.

Time for an update.

Things are progressing nicely and though I was intent on keeping pot size at 1 gallon, these Maui Sunshines are asking to be uppoted.

Beautiful plants, thanks again @Sebring !

Next, are the Purple Hearts and baby Loco Motas.
These may be the one galloners.

I could look at those Purple Hearts all day. When they’re a little bigger, I’ll make them my desktop background.

Here is the light setup for the time being for the Purps
(6) 21 watt screw in full spectrum leds
They each have (7) 3 watt bulbs
(2) blue 450-460nm
(2) red 620- 630nm, 650-660nm
(1) white 600-6500k
(1) UVA 380-400nm
(1) IR 730-740nm

I have grown to flower with these bulbs but I will probably flower these withf these:

My recycled TLO planting mix is proving to be the best yet.
Since several pots were outdoors last year I baked these on a utility room wood stove for 10 hrs in 5 gal stainless steel pots with tight fitting lids.

Once cool I added only a tenth of the Rev’s recommended ferts as I am going to supplement the watering schedule with Burpee’s Organic Water Soluble fert.
I like the lower N reading.
Added a 3rd by volume small particled perlite, the original mix was too heavy.

Edit

Here’s a chart of numbers I got from my lux reader of some bulbs I have

I wanted to post what I did with the 7 to 1 E26 (screw in)// 7 way splitter/ adapter,

These things really look cool and I didn’t want to mess with them but looking at my limited grow space 2’X2’X4’ every inch gained is an inch of bud.

Easy peasy; screws are tight but can be removed by steady pressure along the screws axis and a properly sized screw driver.
Wire nut connectors, so easy i had to use 'em again though I will eventually solder a permanent connection to a reclaimed two prong wire.

Hooked up to hang from these neat little pulleys, cheap too. I think they were $8 for 2, 2-packs.

Light array
1 24 watt actual 200 watt replacement 5000k
3 15 watt actual 100 watt replacement 5000k
3 15 watt actual 100 watt replacement 2700k screw in bulbs with plastic diffuser covers removed.
(best way imo place in socket and turn on for at least 5 min to warm up, and with leather gloves just twist them off. 24 watt is not glued on and removes readily replaceable too.).

Pretty bright, I think this was 12" from the closest bulb, where I always measure from first.

Strong light levels grow strong, healthy plants.

Cost,
24 watt = $9 (I think, crazy days @menards)
15 watt leds both temps,six total $12
7 way splitter $7
pulley $2

$30 total

Just an update on the original plants in my grow.
Went visiting yesterday to the foster home of my autos and things are looking good.

First is the fertilized Loco Mota, calyx’s are swelling with seed.
Pretty sexy.

Frosty seedy goodness!

Second is Purple Heart 2 the one whose seed looked like a dud.
My friend was gonna chop her today @79 days old

She looks a little young but he is out and needs the meds

Purple Heart One, the first to sprout of the four.

The crummy pics don’t show the frosty look of these plants.

In my follow up grow, Maui Sunshine has forced me to hook up my outside exhaust, odor levels waay down but the missus says she can still catch a whiff.
Sorry no pics of my duct taped wonder.
I am having workers at my house next couple of months and the pics would be too identifiable.

Sure as shootin’ these doggone Maui Sunshines got their way!
Up-potted to 2 gallon pots.
Showing a little clawing, probably due to the extra manure I put at the bottom of the pots.
So no ferts until they straighten up.
TBH, I expect an explosion of growth the next week or so, not sure how to handle it.
FIM seems inelegant for these beauties.
Suggestions?

The male is on the left, female on the right. I’m hoping to grow them together for as long as possible in order to maximize seed production.

Does anyone know what a mature male looks like?
Rarer than a unicorn, I’ve heard.

There are no gnats on the trap, at least on the fresh side. Got clumsy with some soil.

Unscrewed all the 15 watt 5000k bulbs and replaced them with 15 watt 2700k so now the profile is:
One 24 watt 5000k
Six 15 watt 2700k

Later on I’ll swap out the 7 bulb adapter and use my 50 watt 6500k Ledmo flood that is mounted to the very top of that tent.
Some Full Spectrum supplemental lighting too.
Also going to run a 26 watt STTQYB UVB 10.0 led (expensive) to frost the lady up the final 3 weeks or so.

That’s it for now.
Great Growing Everybody!

Edit
I forgot to add the smallest plant(female) is in the tent with the autos(24/7).
Not ideal but should go back to veg and bulk up a bit.

Pics later this week.

Since @LemonadeJoe said the site’ll be down this weekend and knowing my bad timing, here’s an update,

Maui Sunshine midget, flanked by two Purple Hearts.
The PH’s caught up quickly.

I really like the light effect the those FS bulbs have. Sort of a dappled look.

Something to keep my eye on.

Plants are about a foot tall, lights on 24/7 all are showing female preflowers.
Sorry no close up pix, can’t find my magnifier.

I swear, that yardstick must turn into a snake and slither off.
Each time I find it, use it and put it back exactly where I’ve put it for 5 yrs, it is never there when I look for it.

Loco Mota babies, about two weeks old, front <> back stinging nettle plants from seed.

Update.
Here we have the happy couple in the honeymoon suite, looks like the bride is a little standoffish and still playing hard-to-get.

This strong alpha male is more than a match for such feminine wiles and besides, he knows they were meant to be together.

Shades of Grey x 50!

Close up of the restraining clip.

image

Tomorrow the male makes his move, stay tuned for the sensational details!

Next door the girls are having their girl fun totally oblivious to the passion about to be let loose mere inches away.
Two Purple Hearts on the left, Maui Sunshine on the right.

Looks like the female had some good sense in rejecting that “male” after all.
Her + him = herm-ie.
Took a good look or three at my supposed alpha and it looked lie nothing I’d grown before.
Literally my first hermie.
As I was tying he/her down I was struck by the strange clumping of the balls then noticed a few female flower strands amongst them. Last week when I saw the first male buds I thought I had a seeding partner on hand.
So no seed this run.
Rats.

image

So at least I know now what to look for first hand instead of other folks images.

This opened up the opportunity for moving the other Maui Sun into the flowering tent and in the other tent, I also swapped out the 8 light unit for a wider space 9 light unit.
All Full Spectrum led sils atm. have all the autos there now 24/7.

(21 watts * 9) / 2² = 47.25 watts/sq ft.
Pics later.

That sucks, from what I’ve read male hermies are quite rare…it would probably pass on that trait though.

Update, recovery plan now that Sunshine Maui is going sensi.

The midget Maui was uppotted into a 2 gallon pot.
Simple one bend training.

Things are looking up for the “lady who dodged a bullet” Maui.

Took 3 cuttings off the midget.
The one on the right was first and suffered from my lack of practice.

My clone method was to place the cutting immediately into tap water and then prepare my workstation.
Once I fill the 2" netpots with soaked vermiculite(distilled h2o) I remove lower leaves and cut a 45゚ at an internode, usually just above.
Scrape a 1/2" length on one side of the stem, dunk in rooting hormone and placeinto the preformed hole in the verm.
Placed in a clear box with opaque lid to keep out of direct light.
Place under lights.

Next, I uppotted the Loco Motas into 1 Gal pots and placed under the screw in Full Spectrum bulbs.

9 place, 21 watt bulb array.

More later…

Update.
Loco Mota continues to surprise,

He’s a little guy.

I’m kinda ignorant about who bred this cool plant but if this micro size is the result, I can’t help but see what a boon this baby would be to the micro cab or pc case growers.
Pretty aromatic though so stealth is somewhat compromised.

Here’s the female,

Now I was planning on fertilizing one of the Loco Motas and one of the Purple Hearts with pollen I collected from the first male earlier in this topic.

My buddy has the Loco Mota fertilized by the above fella, I get 1/2 the seed.
So I’ll hit this female with pollen from the “lil’ Loco” and 1/2 of one Purple Heart gets hit with pollen saved from the first male and 1/2 with pollen from lil’ Loco.

These sure flower early and small!
The Purple Hearts are giants in comparison, flowering very nicely.
I’ll post up pics when I train them.

One thing growing autos has made me aware of is how much I dislike the dark period for the photos!
I love spending time with them but green light just doesn’t do it and is reserved for emergencies.

During a giveaway by @ReikoX, that I bowed out of, I stated I was afraid I’d like autos too much.
Sucks being right most(all) of the time.
I’ll never abandon reg photos but autos deserve a premium spot in any growers personal seed bank.
Thanks to all that made this possible, I’m having a blast.

Edit: I forgot to mention emoji ain’t working for me, anyone else?
