What zone are you in? We’re having an exceptionally warm start to spring where I am in 7a, a number of people in local gardening groups already posting plants swarmed with aphids
Still about 3-4 weeks out from our technical last frost date, but the past few years I haven’t brought peppers out to harden off until the beginning of next month…
Zone 10a. It gets hot here and the weather has been bipolar lately.
I even have more peppers that were tossed outside a week or so before those!
Anyone grow peppers in beer cans? I was thinking about this while working with solos and cannabis which I’ve never done. These are really fun. This one a Vampire or Dracula pepper plant and it was about a year old. It’s been through several harvests. The pods start out green then turn black then red when ripe. Just beautiful leaves in this one too.
White lightning
Never too many
Here’s a SRP that I grew from seed in a can of “bloom” from Hudson valley brewery over the winter last year as a project out of boredom and winter blues without plants! I keep 2 of these cans specifically for growing in because I just love the name and label for a plant
Currently have an auto flower in it for fun and being in the back of the tent it’s been neglected as hell
Ten out of the ten Bhut Jolokia and Trinidad Moruga Scorpion pepper seeds germinated in 8 days. They were in a drawer above my stereo system that maintains a temperature of 80 degrees. And I have moved them into seedling starter and a domed tray. One problem I had is the root hairs penetrated the paper towel which I had to cut a portion of the paper with the root and plant. My question is, is there something better than a paper towel to germinate the pepper seeds on so they don’t grow into the surface?
Ok so I still have the 2 hybrids from @cannabissequoia going. Hawaiian x ghost . And they look like trees. Periodically they lose their leaves and sprout new for the longest time they would flower then the flowers would fall off along with half the leaves and then sprout new leaves and flowers , done this several times . They have branches 3 feet long and one just recently started to produce a couple peppers. Very small orange and reds. Hopefully transplant outside soon and see if I can get some normal size peppers. Lol
Not too sure if there’s anything better. Did you plant the seed w/ a piece of the towel still around the tap root? It should break down no problem.
I just put them in a an old takeout tray with around 3/4 inch of coco. Space the seeds an inch or two apart. When they sprout and get to the first set of true leaves, use a spoon or something to scoop them out and put in a solo cup with whatever media you want.
If you time it right, they hardly even slow down.
@unomas and @potpotpot I did plant them with a bit of he paper towel attached. This is what I am using to start the pepper seedlings before up potting his season. Thanks for the replies.
Soft bumwad. It’s easy to tear away, and you don’t really have to get it all off, biodegradable I use if for pot, too.
It’s funny, this is my go to method and have not had any sticking to the pt. Now that I said it, from here on in, everything is going to stick .
@BIGJ — if I remember right blossom drop is from too cold temps at night but am not sure
thanks for growing
Glad they landed . Sow a few of the reapers per pod, some came up Albino. @Hashpants
The “fushimi” look like okra… could make for some pranks
Very good possibility my room runs cooler. They will be going outside when weather permitting to finish out. Should be some monster bushes
