Still Reeks With A Carbon Filter?

I’d love to get some other’s opinions on this… My carbon filter started smelling so I figured… time to change it, it was old. Installed a fresh Can Brand (Can-Lite) 8" Filter. (With an 8" can fan set to the lowest of three speeds.) Pulling air through filter and out. And it’s still reeks!

I started thinking maybe my the dual hose ac? But that is not supposed to be exchanging air out of the room. So don’t think it’s that?

Would adding another 8" filter/fan just to scrub, in the same room that’s already exhausting out through a filter help any?

Possible to use two filters in one line, double filter? Slowest fan speed with high humidity saturating the filter? Intake leak in the filter unit? It’s top of the line one of the best, I honestly couldn’t say what the problem is from here, hope you get it worked out.

‘But that is not supposed to be exchanging air out of the room. So don’t think it’s that?” Highly probable.

A bit more info would help… Placement etc.

I can run a single 8" in a tent inside a kindergarten and have it smell like fresh laundry instead of ded skunk.

Are you scrubbing an open room or a closed tent?

I am trying to imagine your build in my head off of your description my bro! Very hard to do…

Check the AC ducting connected to your filter and inline fan for holes. But honestly it’s hard to help without a visual of some sort

Humidity is in the 40-60range. Late flower and harvest. maybe 20x20+ canopy or dry space. Room is just a large open space.

The ac unit is a separate dual hose unit. Sort of near it I have my filter… “filter > Inline fan > duct > out”. The filter is thoroughly duct taped to the inline/ducting. (Probably not the most efficient placement as I’m pulling some ac air out. Need to change that in the future.)

@Heliosphear - are you saying it’s highly probably that it could be the ac unit? These types of units are not supposed to exchange air out of the room… I’m not too sure, still have not ruled it out. (I do have two ac units opposite sides of the room and am noticing smell near both.)

My bro… You need a standing filter maybe two or three of them not an single 8" :sunglasses:

That big of a room you will need to plan a bit of HVAC to have success no smell.

like a larger one? could you link something similar to what you’re talking about please?

 you make a good point. I was most likely under-budgeted on that aspect.

I mean I dont have pics so when you describe it I visualize one of the amazon ones we see all the time

You can call them also they are pretty helpful.

Haha yep I’m tha’ man! (just kidding, appreciate the advice!)

Yeah that’s pretty similar to the one I’m using currently. Like this exact one below, except mine is 8" not 10"… so 8"x40". https://hydrobuilder.com/grow-room-environment/grow-room-odor-control-air-cleaner-filters/exhaust-filters/carbon-exhaust-filters/can-fan-can-lite-carbon-filter.html

Maybe I just need to double-down then.

Cool, thanks mate! :v:

Ok cool so you are pretty much there -
I missed the part where you said the brand and only saw 8"

Get that room scrubbin my bro! But it is strange you find that smell near the AC units… More scrubbers! Sounds like the AC pulls/whatever the hell it does more air than the scrubber does. So either more scrubbers each corner or a bigger massive giant scrubber in the center of the AC units.

Also that is an impressive breadth of canopy ur working with. Would love 2 see a pic or two!! What strains are you running?

Yeah, considering swapping the dual hose’s for a mini-split in the future.

Would have to search for more pics, but here’s a teaser. Wasn’t the most perfect run, was a bit too close to that light, but still turned out pretty nice. That’s The White X Romulan (Old School Dank).

Imagine 25’ plants DWC underground with light movers that’s some good stuff.

The can lite filters are not very good compared to the regular can filters and mountain air. Recently switched to mountain air and they seem to work better.

You’d honestly be fine with a better filter if it worked otherwise crank your fan up. Would highly recommend having the largest upright filter you can afford scrubbing air outside the room.

I had this issue and found that sizing the right Can-Fan model rated for the CFM your fan is pulling changed everything for me, just a thought from a relatively newbie here.

When my room starts getting stinky first thing I check is predicted sometimes. If that doesn’t mediate then it’s time for a replacement
