Storing weed long-mid term,smellproof?

Do you let it hang for 1 day 1st? How long did you cure for? I am going slightly less than default by a couple digits… I also plan on leaving it quite a while before I consider it “cured” I’m surprised it has odor!!!

How long was your dry stage set for? Seems like you didn’t let it dry long enough… or enough altogether @PineTarBastard

@Terpsnpurps I used the factory preset of 4/4. I let it hand dry outside for 10 hours and it had lost a lot of moisture due to sun and wind. I did take it out a few hours early before the 4 days of cure was complete as it was going into grove bags anyways. I figured it could finish curing in there. But it definitely smells loudly when i open the jars/grove bags to burp them. 1strain was 55%RH and the other strain was 65%RH.

I just started my second round today and let it hang for 30 hours outside this time around.

I’ve read on instagram that some people are recommending two days of hang drying before going in. I’m playing it by ear, and trying to time it based on outdoor weather conditions, as I’m doing my hang drying outside. I have more weed growing outside than i can process before it’s going to freeze, so I’m going to push the machine and may even cut the cure stage in half or not do it at all and use the grove bags for the curing.
Here’s one of my Mulanjes

Here’s one of my Oaxacas

And i have four other smaller plants to do as well.

@Andrexl To the original question of the thread, i second the use of grove bags. I believe there’s a thread or two discussing them. If you need a discount code for your first order, let me know.

So you still think the groves are necessary? How much are you putting in at a time?

Also… I’m curious as to what would happen at a 30 day cure… vs a 4 day… you should try this man … the magic happens in those long cures… I plan on doing ridiculously long cures… months on end… from 1 grow… all the way to the next… obviously… I’ll have to rotate things if too much product… but I’m willing to bet you can cleverly pack more than suggested… just can’t do it all smashed together etc… but I bet we can fit more than they say… also depending on weight of each bud as well :+1:

Well, i have to store the weed in something, and theoretically, the grove bags cure the weed as well as stores them, and they don’t require burping(theoretically). I figured the grove bags were better than jars. I have different size grove bags. So far I’m just using one ounce bags, but i have some quarter pound bags I’ll be using for the big Oaxaca and the big Mulanje. I micro dose, so I’ll be smoking that shit for ten years.

I’d like to compare notes as we go… we will perfect this quicker with testing together on it… I’m struggling and can’t get shit to take off right now… this led is Killin me man

Oh yeah I hear alot of great stuff about the groves… I’m hoping to figure out the cannatrol in a way that we won’t need em though… it should be able to do better than most anything. There’s no way I’d go jars now that there’s groves… being newer anyway…

I’ll try the long cures on the last round. Seriously, i have like 2-3 weeks to process a huge mountain of flowers. I am really hoping for a long mild autumn, but we have temps in the 30’s hitting next week. The sativas are clearly not enjoying the colder nights. A few of the branches on the Oaxaca have already gone from green to brown in the past couple of days.

I will say that the machine beats what I’ve done in the past three years. It’s really challenging drying weed to the right RH when living in the desert. I over-dried a lot of weed the past few years. I didn’t want to destroy the strains i have this year.

Yup overdrying is almost a tearful thing… you just know all those wonderful flavors and smells went to the heavans never to return… only leaving a harsh memory lol

Bro by the time a year passes we shall have this down to a science!! I’m betting you’ll be blown the hell away by a long ass cure lol… I’m excited to see!!! Now I’m on the edge of my seat!

Thank you friend, lot of good info from you,I want to know how Is It possible to dry It outside or in the light,as drying Is said to be done in complete darkness

I think most of the “rules” like total darkness, 60F/60% are based on small improvements.

Darkness prevents UV degredation of terpenses/cannabinoids. How much? I don’t know. I’m sure direct sunlight wouldn’t be good, but a shady spot may be minimal improvement over total dark.

60F prevents very volatile terpenes from evaporating straight away. That seems valid, but depends on the strain what terpenes are even present.

60% slows the dry down over the course of ~2 weeks. This just makes sure the moisture content is more uniform by the time it goes into jars. I think this is an important part of curing.

Interesting to see other peoples methods. I went a little overkill with my setup, but enjoy seeing other ways and reading about the results.

What about drying in my room at average 22-18C and 50% humidity but very highlight room, with a big Window?
I am sick of setting a cardboard box again over and over

@Andrexl in the past, I’d dry my flowers in my garage. It really smelled up the place something fierce. For a variety of reasons, i am trying to minimize the smells this year and am also trying to get a better drying/curing experience that what i managed/mis-managed in the past. So i got one of these:

And i hang it up outside, close to the house. I posted a pic of mine above. It’s really big and holds a lot. It’s fully enclosed and keeps the bugs out and keeps the flowers in. I’m not too worried about sunlight. While i wouldn’t store the flowers outside, i don’t think it hurts them to be dried outside.
I also gently wash/rinse my flowers, and place them on paper towels to blot most of the water away and then place them inside of this thing to further dry. You can see them on paper towels inside of it if you look close.
As a side note, i live in the desert and it everything gets extremely dusty and dirty. The flowers are also covered with aphids, spider mites, caterpillars and more. I’ve learned that washing my outdoor weed is a necessity. I’m happy to describe my process if anyone’s interested.

I also got a Cannatrol machine to manage the rest of the drying/curing, and grove bags for end storage. The Cannatrol is probably overkill, but I’ve ruined/over-dried/ or lost a bunch to mold, a lot of weed in the past due to incompetence/my environment and decided to give it a try.
