My wife’s favorite is “it smells like chemical” or sharpie

Thing is, just like wine or scotch or any other hoity toity snobby hobby (sticks out pinky), anything that the person recognizes that they taste & smell is valid.

If it smells like sharpie to her then she’s right! But maybe she’ll notice another layer of smell if she wants to go a “layer deeper” into the experience?

edit: when I started learning about scotch all I could taste was “smoke” and “wood” but after only a few more tastings I was able to pick out things like vanilla, cinnamon, wine flavor imparted from the casks, etc. But I never would have known to ask myself what I’m tasting if I hadn’t had someone tell me that there’s always another layer. After the initial taste or smell I need to ask myself “what else is there that I didn’t pick up before?”

I wasn’t discounting the more refined language of today. It was more about how our nose and language has became more refined for smokers.
So finding rks for a smoker is harder because of this refinement while non smokers who are unfamiliar with the language just smell skunk

Total agreement here! My comment was more in reply to @Vagabond_Windy sharing their wife’s reaction “yup smells chem / sharpie”

And this is one reason that some can easily dismiss RKS as a myth. It’s easy for them to say we’re all pining for the days when we were new at it and the only smell we noticed was the skunkiness :joy:

I smoked BC Skunk bud with my Uncle when I was 16 but I also grew up in a place called North Delta , right beside Surrey, BC long a hotbed of criminal activity. North Delta didn’t have the reputation Surrey BC does.or did back then. LOTS of growers in the Surrey North Delta area back then and everyone knew when Skunk was being smoked, carried, harvested, and especially busted. In the 6 block area of my house when I was a kid through all ages of school back then I remember numerous busts. We knew all the grow houses but we weren’t into weed really. It was just happening all around us at the time. Cops went hard on busting grows thru the 80’s , 90’s and the 2000’s with whole crews of cops trained specifically to find and bust grows. Growing , carrying or toking on Skunk was getting too many people busted so the market changed. This is all pretty much verifiable fact no matter which grower/breeder you talk to that actually has thier roots in the BC , Vancouver/lowermainland/fraser valley cannabis scene. My uncle, that married my mom’s sister when i was a kid ,who passed away a couple years ago now from old age ills , was a patch member of the Hell’s Angels from his younger days growing up in Duval , Quebec. His whole time in the club was cannabis related. I never did any business or cannabis related stuff with him other than toke over the years once i was an adult. My mom’s younger brother, dope grower since he was a teenager, also joined the bikers in his early 20’s. I did spend a lot of time with him over my 20’s and 30’s going to events and cannabis related private gatherings in the mountains and rural areas of washington and oregon. This was all just fun times for me and I wasn;t involved. My growing started with Biker’s as well but they were old timer patch members of the Outlaws. We never grew skunk but my point of telling the long winded tale is that both my HA uncles moved untold amounts of BC Skunk to destinations east to Quebec and south of the BC lowermainland to the states. These are things I was never a part of but I learned about them over the years. You hit 40 and the older family members stop keeping thier secrets it seems LOL So BC Skunk existed up until the late 80’s on a “commercial” scale. Weed was scarce for a few years and imported afghan hashish was dominating the market. The weed we were growing was Afghani #1, Hawaiian Indica, Purple Afghani , and a couple other old school strains , then Chemo got leaked from UBC research plant sciences lab and I was on the couch for those clones arriving into the public domain. In all those years… 1989 to 2005 , BC Skunk was never to be seen at a commercial level again. By 95/96 the clones the bikers were feeding me were Hashplant, NL5 and Blueberry.
So Skunk existed but it was never called Road Kill Skunk at least not here in BC.
I know for a fact most of the west coast was smoking BC grown Skunk weed back then too because they were sending it down in semi tire trucks weekly, 100 pounds a load., per truck.

When your landlord complains that it smells like pot, your nose will suddenly re-awaken to the world of skunk that you have been living in all along.

I’ve been getting plenty of skunk from stuff made with the same bay area genetics that got me busted when I was in high school. OG and granddaddy purple type stuff.

I keep a selected recessive pheno of Ken Estes’ berry larry (goji og x [larry og x gdp]) because it smells like gasoline and herbal fennel with strong undertones of skunk.

The ambient dank of the live plants is very strong even in veg.
It dissipates as it dries and cures. The skunky smell is strongest in fresh dried bud, but live resin concentrates retain the skunk smell and flavor. The longer it cures the more the sweet fennel and goji berry notes come out.

It’s a recessive pheno. Most of the really dank bay area clones from back in the day were recessive. That’s what made them worth it as a clone, you couldn’t reliably get that dank from seed because they were all rarely found recessive phenos.

That’s why a lot of og s1 type stuff smells sweet.

I’ve been getting ambient skunk around my grow from bodhi’s ethiopian x omg hybrids, but not in the cured bud or hash. It has a strong ambient skunk smell that lingers around the live plants, but the resin is all fruity.

Little update on my Burnout Killerz. She’s been growing quick since I put her in a 5 gallon pot. Only took a few days and roots were poking out of the drain holes. Planning to work on getting her used to being outside over the next few days and then transplant her into a 40 gallon pot. Only topped her once and think I may again here soon.

6 Bandaid Skunk at ~5.5 weeks. The stretch has been wild with these. They went into bloom at 12-18 inches. Wild smells coming through. They range from soapy, hazy piff to bleach, acrid skunk. Had to pull the carbon filter to get more headroom, and I can definitely smell in the driveway when the lights come on.

Can someone explain to me how I’m supposed to pay for an order with Strayfox? Do I put the money in a book or something and send it to him that way?

A few seed banks carry his stuff. Sometimes he has sales on his website. If he lists stuff on IG that’s not going to the seed banks or on his site try emailing his sister-in-law (healinggenetics@gmail.com) Best of luck!

Has anyone grown Strays Ninja Turtles? Looking at adding Tunnel Vision (Ninja Turtles x Bodhi Granola Funk) to my collection. Is it a good one to have in the bank?

Anything made with Ninja Turtles are older seeds at this point, so if you grab them it’s probably better to grow them sooner than later. Most of his Ninja Turtles crosses were originally released from 2016-2018.

A little info about Ninja Turtles from the other site. strayfox gardenz #circleofblessings | Rollitup

I feel this. It’s always that extra day I waited to chop.

Finally was able to put an order in for Carbon Killerz and also ordered Hippy Oil, Sour Unicorn, and Sour Rootbeer Skunk. Kinda think I should have ordered some of the Starfighter F2 and doubled down on the other packs.

Sour star bubba #5 chop day 72f
Could have gone another week or 2
But the veg tent was ready to go so this last one standing got the chop

Man did I mess up not taking any cuts from this one !!
Peppery catpiss skunk ass is the best way I can describe the scent coming off this girl .

Not the best yielder but very dense buds
She really didn’t smell at all until round the 8th week
And still didn’t think she was that strong smelling
Until I pulled her out of the tent

Then it hit me
Wow does she stink !!

Gonna try to see if I can get her to reveg
Never had much luck in the past

Any tips from the reveg pros would be greatly appreciated
