Hard to say without a conclusive study, some constitiuent components may be absorbed by the roots through apoplastic, symplastic, or trans-membrane root pathways similar to herbicides or organic volatile compounds such as the Rosemaric acid in SNS 209 or the Azidirachtin in neem…both of which are known to affect flower flavor when applied at the root zone.
