StunFlower's Farm: DWC & Soil Grows

Greetings OGs!

I’m new to the site and already a big fan of the community here and the cool projects y’all have going on. I’ve been growing for nearly 5 years, mostly in DWC, but I’m also doing more soil grows as well. I’m a micro grower and grow for personal use and the joy of growing To this point, I’ve grown exclusively from seed - autos and feminized photoperiods. Nothing fancy with cuts, custom crosses, or beans I’ve hatched myself, but I’m hoping to learn and expand my horizons :sunglasses:

I have a couple of things on the grow that I thought I’d share.

Frosted Guava and Alien Moonrocks in DWC

My setup is pretty simple and straight forward. I'm growing in 5-gallon buckets wrapped in panda film to block out light. I use 4" net pots and hydroton. I run Remo nutes (Grow, Bloom, Magnifical, AstroFlower) and also throw in some Sensizyme. These girls are in my 40" x 40" tent with a Spiderfarmer SF4000 providing the beams.

The plants have just ended 4th week of flower and are looking good. The Alien Moonrocks was getting pretty lanky during the stretch so I super-cropped 4 or 5 of the taller stems got a few days ago. She’s recovered nicely and I recovered about 5" of height. Some pix from the past week…

Gorilla Cake Autoflower in Soil

The Gorilla Cake is a little soil grow I have going. A cross between Gorilla Glue and Wedding Cake she's got a sweet cherry smell going right now. She's 7 weeks into flower and is growing in a 3-gallon fabric pot with Ocean Forest soil. She was given only water until about 2 weeks into flower and then I started giving her weekly amendments with Remo nutes (Bloom, Magnifical, Micro, AstroFlower, VeloKelp, Nature's Candy).

Up until today, she spent most of her time growing in my small, 30" x 30", tent with an old Mars Hydro TS1000 lighting the way. I moved her into my vacant 3' x 3' tent today to finish off. This tent has a couple of TS-1000s in it.

Rapper's Delight: Snoop Dogg OG & Khalifa Kush: Soil Grow

Have smoked both of these strains on a few occasions and quite enjoyed them both. Thought I’d drop a couple of beans and see what pops. Things are just underway. This will be another soil grow. 5-gallon fabric pots with Ocean Forest soil. Only water for the first several weeks. I’ll start amendments with Remo nutes a couple of weeks into their flower cycle.

Ya, I thought I might take a short hiatus from DWC over the summer months for purley practical reasons. I’m hoping to getaway for a couple of weeks and I have a friend who can water the plants while I’m gone. Having them deal with everything that DWC entails is a bit much to ask.

yea for sure. Hopefully they water your plants properly. Sounds like a smart plan.

I’m probably skipping the DWC this summer too. I am trying out an earthbox with one plant in my smaller tent. I’m looking for something with as little daily maintenance as possible for the summer. I’m hoping the reservoir will hold enough water for 2-3 days so I can get out a weekend or two.

I’ll be interested to follow your experience with the EarthBox. I had not heard of these before but they look very cool! That rez feature looks very appealing.

it’s a SIP, Sub-irrigated planter. Lowes or home depot have their own versions, city pickers. I think those are a tad smaller, but work the same way. They are expensive, but I am hoping to get 3-4 runs out of each batch of soil with reamending. It should pay for itself over time…

TIme to drop an update on my current crop of projects…

Frosted Guava & Alien Moonrocks in DWC

Everything is continuing to run smoothly with the Frosted Guava and Alien Moonrocks in my DWC buckets.

We’ve just finished week 5 of flower and both plants are starting to fatten and get frosty - the Alien Moonrocks especially. I pruned a few branches on both plants this week along with some very light defoliation.

The Alien Moonrocks ended up being about 38" tall after the stretch and the Frosted Guava topped out at 28"; I had to add another layer to her jenga tower to keep the canopy even.

Gorilla Cake: Soil Grow

Final days for the Gorilla Cake as she’s starting to fade away.

Buds are firm, frosty, and fragrant. Can’t wait to taste this one. I think she’s going to be delicious :cherries::cake::yum:

Snoop & Wiz: Soil Grow

I transplanted the Snoop Dogg OG and Khalifa Kush into 5 gallon buckets a couple of days ago and moved them into my 3 x 3 tent. In the buckets we have Ocean Forest soil amended with mycorrhizal. Hopefully, they'll settle in and adjust to their new conditions without making too much of a fuss.

Alien Moonrocks: Flower Week 6

The Alien Moon Rocks is rocking :metal:

Buds are swelling and the frost is thick and sticky.

I did a little bit of defoliation today, removing some of the larger fan leaves around the top third of the canopy as well as pruning a couple of lower branches.

Her smell is super pungent, stem rub has a subtle fruitiness. Very intriguing.

A few weeks to go. Very much looking forward to this harvest :sunglasses:

Frosted Guava: Flower Week 6

The Frosted Guava is growing well but looks like she may be suffering from a calcium deficiency(?) affecting several of the larger fan leaves near the top of the plan - otherwise, the plant looks pretty good.

I was planning to do some defoliation at this stage anyway, so I plucked most of the afflicted leaves and pruned a few branches to open things up a bit more as she’s grown quite thick.

I’m giving her a 24-hour flush to reset things and I’ll give her fresh feed tomorrow.

Buds are swelling nicely and are frosty and sticky. Smell is akin to juicy fruit gum and shoe polish.

Hopefully, clear sailing during the final few weeks :crossed_fingers:

Snoop Dogg OG & Khalifa Kush: Soil Grow

Snoop and the Wiz have started to settle in following their transplanting last week into the 5-gallon fabric pots. I’ve been lightly watering the area directly around each plant and haven’t saturated the pots at this point. I’ll keep things light until they firmly establish themselves.

I will likely FIM both of these plants, hopefully within the next week.

Gorilla Cake Harvest

Harvested the Gorilla Cake after about 95 days from dropping the seed.

This was by far one of my easiest grows from beginning to end. Germinated the seed directly in a pete plug and transferred her directly to her final destination, a 3 gallon fabric pot.

The Ocean Forest soil made life dead easy for the first several weeks as I only had to provide her with regular waterings. I started feeding her REMO nutes once a week about 2 weeks into her flower cycle.

No issues at all with this grow - other than me splitting the stem while performing some careless LST, but she recovered like a champ.

Buds were well formed and consistent throughout the plant with no larf to speak of; greatly due to the fact she was spread wide open and light was accessible throughout the plant.

Part of this exercise was to see what I could do in my small tent with a 3-gallon pot and some dirt as I wanted to keep things on the smaller side. Very pleased with the results. It was an effortless 87.5 grams and by far the easiest plant I’ve ever had to trim - no extra baggage on these buds.

Very happy with this grow and how this strain performed.

Smoke-wise, I’m very impressed with the early samples. Taste starts off slightly earthy and finishes with the cherry flavour I associate with Wedding Cake, along with some sourness . It burns clean and slow, even at this early stage. After my first sample, I was doing some dishes and my mind was just wandering. Suddenly, I had this aha moment where I thought, “Dang. I’m high.” Not recommended for tasks where focus is required. Fantastic stuff :dash:

DWC Update: Alien Moonrocks & Frosted Guava

L: Frosted Guava. R: Alien Moonrocks

Both plants are growing very well; the Alien Moonrocks especially. I can do no wrong in her eyes

The Frosted Guava is bearing the scars of the earlier suspected Calcium deficiency but I’m hoping things are now under control :crossed_fingers:Her buds are swelling up really nicely and she has a strong, fruity smell when you rub against her. Also, sticky AF.

The Alien Moonrocks continues to rock hard :metal: Buds are fattening up and vibrant red hairs are adorning the buds at the top of the canopy. There is a generous layer of frosting throughout the plant. Sticky-icky goodness.

Snoop & the Wiz: Soil Grow

L: Snoop Dogg OG R: Khalifa Kush

Snoop & Wiz are settling and doing ok. The Snoop Dogg OG seems a little happier at the moment and seems more tolerant of the nutes she’s getting from the Ocean Forest soil. The Wiz is a little darker and appears to be getting all the nitrogen she can handle and then some. I’m sure she’ll adapt. Both plants are about 13" tall now.

I FIMed both plants slightly less than a week ago and they seem no worse for wear. I’ll likely give them another week and then flip the lights to 12-12 and start those flowers.

nice looking harvest and excellent write up! Do you think you are going to do a lot more indoor soil?

Thanks very much!

Yes, in addition to the Snoop Dogg and Khalifa Kush I have on the go, I have a few more autos germinating that I’ll run in soil as well - I’ll likely run a couple indoors and a couple outdoors. I’m giving the DWC buckets a rest after my current run is done and will start them up again later in the summer or early fall.

DWC Update: Alien Moonrocks & Frosted Guava

L: Frosted Guava R: Alien Moonrocks

The Alien Moonrocks and Frosted Guava have just started the 9th week of their flower cycle - a couple of more weeks to go.

Alien Moonrocks

Buds on the MR are continuing to swell and ripen - this plant is frost-bitten in the best possible way.

Frosted Guava

The Frosted Guava is getting ever more fat, fruity, and frosty. The red hairs on the buds are like fire.

Looking forward to the harvest. Thanks for tuning in :v:
