Early bedtime for Snoop and the Wiz starting today as we’ve flipped the lights to 12/12 and starting the flower cycle.
The Snoop Dogg OG is still looking the more vigorous of the two plants at the moment, but I think the Wiz will come around.
No heavy demands from either plant at the moment; getting watered once a week or so. Feedings won’t start for another couple of weeks; the Ocean Forest soil will sustain them for a while yet.
Weedlings! Pink Bubba and Critical Jack: Summer Autos
I germinated a couple of autoflower strains to run during the summer months: 1x Critical Jack and 2x Pink Bubba. The Critical Jack and one of the Pink Bubbas is destined for the outdoors while the remaining Pink Bubba will be grown indoors. All 3 weedlings were transplanted directly into their final destination: 5-gallon fabric pots containing a mish-mash of soil I threw together - some regular potting mix, some Ocean Forest soil, and some spent soil from previous grows.
Pink Bubba is a favourite strain of mine and it will be my first time growing it; it will be interested to see how the indoor and outdoor versions compare.
The Critical Jack is new to me and was a freebie I got somewhere along the line. I don’t usually grow (or smoke) Sativa dominant strains but I’ll give this a chance and see what develops.
Happy Tuesday OGs. Here’s the latest updates on my gardening shenanigans
Alien Moonrocks & Frosted Guava: DWC
Just patiently waiting on the Alien Moonrocks and Frosted Guava to finish up. We’ve just finished week 9 of flower and buds are getting firm and are dripping with frost; especially the Alien Moonrocks. Rez change yesterday with a light feeding. Water top-ups only from here on out. I’m looking to chop both plants within the next week or so.
Flipped the lights to 12/12 a week ago. Snoop Dogg is looking pretty happy; the Wiz, not so much.
The Wiz is stunted, likely due to watering/drainage issues. Water is being retained in the bottom of the pot but I don’t think roots are developed enough to get it and the soil in the top half of the plant has been quite dry. She’s looked a bit happier since giving her a light watering.
At this point I’m not sure if I should bother growing her out or not as she looks quite underdeveloped. I’m debating whether to top her and re-veg her to see if I can sort things out or maybe just take some cuts and try again another day.
All is good in the autoflower hood. The seedlings are developing nicely and growing well in their 5-gallon pots. I’ve been giving them light waterings every few days. The Critical Jack and one of the Pink Bubbas will go outside once they’re a bit bigger - the squirrels in my neighbourhood love ripping seedlings out of my pots
I have a couple mephisto strains back from a couple years ago that I haven’t popped.
I don’t really know which ones I have left because I gave some away, but I’m hoping I have a couple Sour Stompers and CDLCs left… 4 Assed Monkney was good too, so hoping I have that one still.
After this weekend I will take a good look at my situation and try to figure it out.
Have you found a company or strain (auto-wise) that is your favorite?
I’ve been really impressed with the stuff I got from Mephisto as well (you steered me in their direction ).
As far as autos from other companies, most of my experience is in dealing with offerings from my local seed bank, The Niagara Seed Bank. The Gorilla Cake I recently harvested was from them and was one of my favourites for sure.
The Pink Bubba I just started is from a distributor I know nothing about - Royal King Seeds; their name itself set off red flags for me, but they had a number of strains (autos and photos) I was keen to grow so I rolled the dice. I’m hoping for the best
You’ll have success with them I’m sure, but unfortunately you probably aren’t getting what you think you are getting. It will be good bud, but yea it looks like they are the typical bulk seed “breeder” where they buy in bulk and resell. They have a bunch of strains I know they didn’t make and no way they are pollen chucking 100 different crosses… It’s probably equivalent to the Crop king, beaver seeds, sunwest, all those that advertise on GD haha.
The Frosted Guava was a pretty successful grow and produced 106 grams of impressive, fat, fruity-smelling buds.
She had some issues early on in the grow but bounced back like a champ. She also suffered a bit of a calcium deficiency early in flower but recovered from that and finished strong.
After cutting her down, I dried the plant whole for 8 days before trimming her out.
She’s been curing in jars for one week now and smells very fruity and sour. Fruit flavour is more subtle when smoke, but quite tasty. I think she’ll taste even better after a couple of more weeks curing.
Just finishing up week 4 of flower for the Snoop Dogg OG and Khalifa Kush.
Both plants have finished stretching; Snoop is 40" tall and Wiz topped out at a mere 25". I think watering issues early on may have prevented Wiz from reaching her full potential. I’m surprised both plants have such tall central colas considering I FIMed both. I expected things to be more well rounded.
Both plants still living on water and the Ocean Forest soil they were planted in. I’ll likely start amending their waterings with some Remo flowering nutes within the next week.
How much do you plan on feeding them of the Remo nutrients? I am asking because your plants look good and I might run small pots sometime in the future. All the soil stuff I’ve done has been mostly water only with top feeding amendments.
Edit: saw you haven’t fed them yet, just the soil. doh.
Yes, the plants are happy and cruising on what they’re pulling from the Ocean Forest. Once I start feeding them Remo nutes, I’ll start them light: 1 tsp/gallon: Micro, Bloom, AstroFlower, and Natures Candy.
We're into week 7 of flower for Snoop Dogg and the Khalifa Kush. I gave both their first feeds about 10 days ago, adding some Remo nutes into their drink: Bloom, AstroFlower, Micro, VeloKelp, and Nature's Candy.
Things are cruising along without any significant issues - I did neglect the Wiz a bit and allowed her to get a bit too dry, but she bounced back after a feed and watering.
Both plants have a wonderful fragrance; some nice citrusy stem rub from Snoop especially.
A few more weeks of ripening and fattening to go. Looking forward to the harvest.
I think we’re about 42 days from seed on the Pink Bubba auto flowers; two or three weeks into flower; the plant with the darker pigmentation is a little ahead.
I was very much surprised to see these colours of the leaves around the buds. It will be interesting to see if the other plant follows suit as it matures; currently they couldn’t be more different.
Both plants were started indoors and I had intended to grow one outside; and indeed I did, for a while. For various reasons (mainly daily bouts of rain) I decided to bring her back inside. The plant that was outdoors is the taller of the two and is about 40" tall while the plant with the pigmentation is half that size.
I think the lights were turned up a bit too high and sitting too close for the liking of both plants for a while (since dialled back and raised) so there were curling of the upper leaves; especially on the taller plant. I’m somewhat tempted to chop off her main stem to even things out as her middle layer is flush with nice tops. Any thoughts?
