My basement tends to stay around 65-75, and I can easily maintain ~60% RH with a dehumidifier and/or humidifier. I’ve let plants hang in that environment for longer than they flowered for and the smoke was sublime. Picking a bud right off the hanging stem :yum:

That was my initial thought as well. I think here in OH most of the cultivators are doing things like @ABushOfKush is at work, basically Climate controlled drying rooms. May be wrong about that though, any thoughts @DirtySlowToes ?

Love seeing pretty much everyone else agree on this point, makes me feel less crazy at least haha…

I heard that’s how Bodhi does it, hangs them in the garage

Like I’ve said, the jury is still out on the long term storage end of things.

I just went through all of my jars/containers to amass a sampler pack for my son of (almost) everything from the garden this season. Some of it has slightly rehydrated. None of the nice buds crumble now. It may not “cure” as we’ve seen pot cure but it has deepened in smell along with the slight change in moisture content.

The drying method “jayplantspeaker” uses is exactly what I’ve done historically. Trim the plant whole. Hang it for 3-5 days, then cut it into spears that will go GENTLY into (non-perfumed!) contractor trash bags laid on the concrete floor. Seal em./open em daily til you get stem snaps/etc. and then start taking it down into smaller bits and chop it off the stem @ prime time.

Dunno if I just grew stinkier plants this year or it’s the FD but this is my best harvest ever outdoors as far as taste and smell. Happy harvests all

Thoughts! I’ve had a few before. Of the handful of facilities I keep up with, only one I know of with a proper freeze dryer is Buckeye Relief. They definitely use it to do fresh frozen plant runs and I can find a couple odd online menus that claim they sell freeze dried flower as well. Menus often complicate things or are flat out wrong, so it’s entirely possible they messed that up. The other few hang dry for sure :metal:t3:

I know you can definitely freeze dry in a regular freezer but their temps are so variable that you get more damaged trichomes and more condensation and refreezing that pure sublimation. It’s weird to think about how the sublimation of water effects the buds. Does the gas just…leave the plant through the stems and everything still? Weird to think about. I think freeze drying has definite promise. I’d be curious to know what moisture content is of the buds being pulled out of the freeze drier. Do they monitor moisture content or just pull it out on feel? I don’t know that much about freeze dryers. I’d also be curious to put some under the old scope to see how trichomes and waxes react.

Sure, yeah, maybe. Seriously, though, what the fuck is the “issue” with just hanging, drying, trimming and jarring? Particularly if we’re just talking about our own personal shit?

All of this talk makes me think of that Denis Leary bit about bongs and stuff, where he was like,”What was the problem with smoking a joint, eating a couple Twinkies and going to bed? Everything has to be bigger and faster and stronger and better!”

I would absolutely NOT go so far as to say that it “ruins” your weed. I still get high as fuck from my weed stored in jars with Bovedas.

I’ve mentioned this before, but I found a jar of two-years-old Mountain Temple (that had a couple Bovedas in it) in the back of my closet like seven years ago. Gave it to my next-door neighbor and smoked a joint of it with her before I left. I can honestly say that that was one of the most amazing “weed-smoking experiences” I’ve ever had. The Bovedas didn’t seem to “ruin” it at all. It was so good that I considered going back over there and asking her for the jar back haha.

But I didn’t.

I’m not advocating for Boveda packs, I’m just saying… “Ruin your weed”? I don’t think so.

The weed is gonna be good or it isn’t.

So do I.

To me they work best for long term storage.

Pretty much after the weed has been curing without boveda and is ready to smoke and put in storage. Then you throw a boveda in.

I think the exchange in moisture fucks up the cure prosses to me.

Bud loses moisture as it cures and the boveda dont allow this.

Again i have experience with them but these are just my opinions.

LOL…and what is the issue with >change<? Why are people making hash oil with modern equipment rather than using that 45 year old Isomerizer2?

Or are they? Now I’m wondering.

FWIW, with the Pharmaceutical firmware you can dry to a set moisture point (%). Would likely work great for pressing and possibly for “curing” as well. I’m sure someone is on it.

If you are only growing and drying a small amount of weed or hash I agree that it likely isn’t a valid purchase for most folks. “Personal” weight is different for everyone, it seems.

I just rehydrate with catching what comes out of the humidifier and jarring it fast :man_shrugging:t2::joy:

I don’t have a problem with change. I’m all for a whole helluva lot of stuff changing. But not if it requires me spending a shitload of money on some sorta freeze-drying contraption and figuring out a “new” way to dry weed. The way I’ve always done that has worked fine, no issues at all, so… What’s the problem?

It’s like those Cannatrol things that people were mentioning. I considered buying one a few years ago, looked into those, researched it and was like,”This is just a wine fridge, but it costs four times as much.”

I’m not saying the freeze-drying thing is the same as a Cannatrol, I’m just sayin’… Hanging plants whole for a couple weeks, then trimming and jarring has always worked well enough for me. I don’t think anybody who’s ever smoked my weed has ever said,”Yeah, it’s good, but what if you’d dried it differently?

To be fair, it’s not like he was trying to sell us on the idea or convince us that we would be better off spending that kind of money. He mentioned he uses one, was OK with spending the money for his use case, and a few of us asked for more information because we were curious. I think it’s cool, if I had the money to burn it would be a fun tool to have. I won’t be buying one but I find the whole topic fairly interesting.

I’ve been using something similar to this, it seals so well I have to use a can opener to pop the jars. So far it’s has been working well, but i haven’t really been using it long enough to really notice a difference.

there’s no problem, either way works for whatever purpose you want to use it for. Not trying to convince anyone to buy one, I just wish i had one for hash rosin making purposes. There’s a reason why almost every serious hash rosin producer out there is using one right now…

Fer sher. I was just chiming in haha.

For me I was hyped on the Grovebags until all the single track seals failed. Terribly sporadic back n forth with their customer service over 2+ months to eventually give up.

Drying for is similar hang out on plate in a basement 55% with some air movement, 4-5 days and its jar-able. After a couple hours I go back and see if it needs more time, if not I just let it mingle in the jars. I don’t use boveda packs because most smoke doesnt last long enough to get a proper cure. :joy:

That blows my mind - it’s cool how we all grow and have different consumption levels here. I always have to find people to give it away to so that I can rotate my supply and consume the most recent harvest.

If it’s not broke…

Yeah, I agree it doesn’t ruin the psychoactive effects. If you put all the time growing the flower, harvesting, drying, trimming, and something you add seems to remove all the odor that sours me on the product and would fall under what I consider to be ruined, even if the product is still usable.

Since the Boveda isn’t really doing anything to improve the potency or effects I never saw a reason to use them after my experiences. But ya, the herb still packs a punch - agree with you there!

Hmm I haven’t had any issues like that over here
Do you get into the bags a lot? For me, daily smoke goes in one the ‘glassless jar’ bags with 5 tracks, or I use a dispo container or pint jar or something. Long term storage is in the groves and I generally only get into them to top off my daily storage. That said, that isn’t the first I’ve heard of their bags failing, so I’m always slow and careful when opening them.

I wanted to keep some around and have a variety library, but I enjoy them too much haha. I wish I had someone that needed disposal of dank buds, I could put a big dent into it

I was kind of hell bent because I couldn’t properly cure most of my testers and they dried out too quick. 17 out of 20 If I remember right failed right after initially sealing them.
I grilled them on manufacturing end, asked for their expect failure rate with the single-track seals. Did they even have a %. Never got any answers to my problems with their product. They tried to butter me up with the same bags lol. Why would I want the same bags that already failed in the first place and no guarantee of it happening all over again. During the back n forth I asked if they planned on a 5 track seal opaque bags since those are fused/manufactured in a different way. I would get those if they were available. No was the answer.

Eventually their head of CS got tagged in on my issue, and he even dropped the ball. I just lost faith in them and went back to the mason jars.

Imagine the people who buy bulk!? With 75%+ failure rate if not 99% by the third try opening it.

Its funny the one glassless bag with 5 track is the only one out of all that’s still functional.

Early impressions of the 5150 TK x TK #1

Good smell & taste. I really went into this wanting it to be my favorite because of how ridiculously easy it is to trim.

Low to medium potency - 4 bong hits has me buzzing. 1 hit of the TK x TS was much stronger.

Calm, mellow, relaxing effects. No euphoric rush like the others and is pretty neutral when it comes to focus. More night time than the other samples so far. I like it, it’s still a quality high.

Surprised me because I was expecting equal or greater potency than the TK FJ cut based on the description. I like weaker herb so I have no problem with it. I don’t smoke joints, but I think with the weaker effects and good flavor it would be pretty decent joint weed. Since I have all the different samples here I have to try to narrow down preferences. While I’m enjoying the effects, I’m also not going to keep the mom around. I wouldn’t be opposed to germinating more in the future. Would be cool to check out the phenos carrying the potency of the 5150.

How many seeds did you plant from that pack out of curiosity?

I forget, 3 or 4. I had 3 females flowering but one looked horrible because of how rootbound it was in soil so I culled it mid flower. Come harvest time I was left with 2 (#1, #3). I know there are a few seeds for when I get the itch to explore more.

Just to be clear and restate, I do like the bud - it just doesn’t stand out against the other 3 plants I sampled from this grow ( TK , TS, TK x TS)
