I have never had the space and the privacy to grow outdoors, before, but I do now.
Time to order some fast finishing seeds and do the same- pop them in December and try to get them out early. But I think 50th parallel is a couple weeks behind cali. I’ll have to look into it, not as easy as putting a thermostat on a fan
The growers Jorge covers in this are further north than myself at about 40-41N and they are all receiving more coastal influence(humdity) and higher altitudes. I’m at 20 ft., they’re in the 3-4000 ft range.
He also shows the time-lapse of one garden started in January in a plastic greenhouse, ravaged by quail, turn out many pounds.
After a decade I’d say the climate in CA’s capitol is a blend of low-desert with some coastal influence. The future seems like Africa on the south-west Sahara’s border “Sahel” (say hell - ha!), but with colder winters.
What I’m wondering is how to get more users to vote without being an ass & over-posting…maybe a PM with the people I know here & they can invite more?
@MadScientisthas a new laboratory to incubate so OG’s a little quiter now. heh
I enjoy your pictures & posts a lot; it really is challenging to pull that all off. If your laws change for the better I hope you forget as easily as I have, how tough guerilla can be. It really is f’n wild how helicopters see my garden all day long. It’s a safe presumption that there are some hundreds in this county of some 4 million people.
Have you ever heard of anyone in the UK/britain growing in an allotment?
(The whole episode was worth watching, imo. Monty Don’s dog Nigel was like a surrogate after I lost my last dog. )
you may wanna share that over at the U K thread, dunno…
I often forget to thank people for taking the time for stopping by so thanks
Maybe you could just edit your post and tag a load of regulars so they stop by…
I know about the helicopters, they get my heart racing, should help keep my ticker, “tocking”
Visit before last there was a quadcopter flying towards and very close to my nepal patch as I was leaving, shit myself, never left so quick. It stopped at the road nearby so I hope they didnt see me. Its in the next county and they have more money to spend on policing stupid shit
I chucked some used soil at my allotment community compost heap, a month later the plice were there bagging up volunteer plants
I had to figure that one out too… The voter gets 1 to 3 choices per poll and can skip a poll. At least there aren’t more votes than is possible-- then we’d be in “hanging chad” territory. (I hear human "chad"s are more prone to infidelity too, crazy shit. can’t remember the female variant.).
i heard a show talking about how ultimately, democracy is limited to mediocrity because of the low end of the societal bell-curve. In other words, the stupid & the ignorant have no ability to evaluate intelligence or ability, much like the immoral person is a poor judge of morality.
yeah.
if anyone wonders, I looooved the movie “Idiocracy”. see it if you haven’t.
Yes, saw and very much enjoyed that movie. Especially the bit about a law degree from Costco…
And I totally agree about needing intelligence to be able to assess it. I guess evolution really has no purpose, just ploughs along with unstoppable pragmatism.
So far… about half of those invited have cast their votes and I’m seeing a glimpse of what’s popular. In the case of a tie I’ll just pick one on 11/30. It occurs to me this is also a good preview of who might like what for christmas.
Good Ole OrangeSunshine#1… She’s lost a few ounces from botrytis/budrot that have become soggy bubble-hash mash, but there’s no amber in sight, anywhere, here.
And the coup de grace, my finaly embarassment for today (I hope), @anon32470837 …this sad looking Durban seed-whore is what I was referring to in a post earlier this year. I was experiencing heat waves & got frustrated with the watering, so I “mulched” it & gave it a “drinking trough”.
As of now I’m gonna close the poll unless I hear extreme protests.
So thanks to you I’ll try to run 3 large females of:
TheBlack x Champagne B.O.G. SourLifeSaver
and there’s a tie between my F1 and DankSinatraF2…
…so I choose the DankSinatraF2 because I can still choose my own creations for the other 3 “big” plants.
I’ll probably get started a month earlier than planned & give myself extra time to determine sex(& re-start if needed).
And again, thanks for the help, this has been fun.
My tenative picks for the other 3 “big outdoor” plants are:
BlackWidowxSensiStar from @Ftlob TGA/Heroes ConspiracyKush(f) x B.O.G. SourLifeSaver (My F1) yetiogXherijiuanaXglacier from @i_thewindcries
I wish I could grow out my whole back yard but time aren’t 'a-changin that fast. So I’ll sneak as many small ones around here & there & any & everywhere.
When this harvest is done & I have a better idea, it may turn out that I’ll need a mid-year bumper crop and do some light-dep.
Garden update. Botrytis/budrot does not go away. LITFA doesn’t even 'faze it. I’d hoped to let the seedpatch go another week (9/10) but they’re variously fucked up. DarkDevil was attracting ants & aphids & definitely finished first. OSS1 was damn near dead , SilverOG2 & BerryWhite were picking up the botrytis, ConspiracyKush, DurbanP, & Glacier OG were all pretty clean. Just got sick of watching things degrade & chopped 'em. I’ll try and start giving away in a couple weeks, will announce in proper fashion.
Selected 2 out of 6 clones I had by visual appeal(“my idea” of candidates).
Some of the rejects were taller or bushier but when I transplanted the 2 & composted the other 4–the rejected clones had much less root mass than the 2 that I chose.
A weird way to measure some learning progress at all of this.
@Ftlob 's BlackWidowSensiStar x Blueberry (my bad, didn’t realize the Blueberry cross until a day ago ).
@deep_rob 's TheBlack x Champagne 1 maybe 2 of 4 popped, I’m nervously hopeful. If they don’t make it, I’ll grab the “runner-up” entry from the poll, @50State 's OrangeSunshine#1 x (my)Barney’s RedCherryBerry. .
2019 outdoor babies on the left; Good news on TheBlackXChampagne-- 100% germ & grow. They were quite a bit slow to start but giver(maker, candle-stick-shaker) @deep_rob did state they’re oldies but goodies.
In the middle are the RedCherryBerry#8 clones telling me they do not like me OR my orchid-mix experiment. I think.
At right are DarkDevil X RedCherryBerry(solo cup) and 2 GirlTime X SourLifeSaver(because pollen doesn’t follow my commands… Pretty sure they aren’t S1/herms). These were started to statisfy pre-harvest boredom.
