Don’t get me wrong I haven’t read the book, and I Don’t want composted human manure in my veggies/fruit/herbs/weed.
I also enjoy my flushing toilet.

But if it was done right with long high temperatures and The person didn’t take all sorts of vitamins, prescriptions and pain killers. I see it as a viable choice for my yard and flowers

Can’t decide if this is better or worse than the female hygiene product thread awhile back. This one makes more sense though, I hope.

Korean Natural Farming at its pinnacle

I think you mean North Korean - where they specialize in shit and cadaver horticulture. (smile)

I think people are having kneejerk reactions. Human poop is still animal poop, and there might be some extra precautions to take but in the end of the day we’re rubbing old shit into our plants. And Bokashi seems like a smart way to use old dairy, meat, and oils so I don’t know why people are knocking that either (except in the cases where actual human bodies are being used, because holy shit). I mean, I’m not planning on doing either anytime soon, but I do see the merits in making sure we minimize waste. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Reduce is first for a reason.

Might have to get creative in how we try to become more sustainable. The biggest factors against using human waste as a fertilizer isn’t what’s in our poop, it’s where our poop goes. It picks up all kinds of lead and mercury from the plumbing. We could potentially compost it into something useful, except for all the deadly chemicals it picks up along the way.

I would imagine all meds/chemicals and whatnot that humans consume would make it a little less desirable. I don’t know. Just a guess from as much as I want to think about it.

Totally get that, but we already give most animals tons of drugs too and we still use their poop. Like I said, there’s extra precautions to take for people, but it’s just not that much of a stretch.

If proper precautions are adhered to, it’s fine. Milorganite is sold in almost every big box store. It’s a pretty damn decent lawn fertilizer. It probably only makes actual sense at scale, though, harvesting your own excretions is penny-smart-pound-foolish type shit, pun intended.

If you came up on the street asking for that, you know what, today is your lucky day. I’ll shit in your bucket.

I bought a copy and read that book a bunch of years ago. Many folks have that same initial reaction… GROSS! FUCK NO!
but, after you read it it doesn’t seem quite so bad. In fact, might help save the planet…

Lots of folks in the tiny-house movement use the same methods for compost toilets in their campers/houses… and most say it is really ok.

The author is a smart dude, who really put a ton of time, effort, experimentation and science into the work.

But, maybe it is gross and repulsive. I don’t know. I havent yet tried it… but figured maybe I’d want to know the basics in case I ever disappear off-grid.
