So I made a couple of temple balls with the bubble from my trim.
Was looking for traditional ways they were smoked because I hate putting a little hash ball in a bowl, I feel like the flower burns super fast, and you toss half the hash at times.
So I watched some dude take a pinch off his temple ball, and pressed it in place on the side of a clean / empty glass bowl. He then takes a metal shaft (obviously heated), lightly touches the hash, and inhales the smoke thru the bowl. Ok, thats nothing new or earth-shattering.
But I’ve got a twist. While looking around here for an object to use in place of the metal shaft, I had an epiphany! “HEY! That soldering iron might work!” Now I know most of you are thinking “what about the crap on it from actually soldering stuff”. Well, I used a brand new one (who doesn’t have 3 or 4 crappy soldering iron / wood burning irons laying aroud). They are getting better / cheaper, and mine even has temp control. Only negative to the one I am using is it has a 30" electrical cord, virtually USELESS length. But when you’re using what ya got, its gotta do.
So, plug that badboy in, take a pinch off the temple ball, smoosh it to the side of the bowl, and touch / roll the tip of the soldering iron on it while inhaling the wisps of smoke it produces. Let me tell ya… I don’t cough. I don’t even half-cough. The taste is YUMMY YUMMY. It hits nice and hard for such a surprisingly small amount of smoke, and it doesn’t waste the hash! One or two hits is plenty to start the day with a smile.
Wow I’ve got to admit that it’s been awhile since I have heard hot knives and I like the idea of this and I have one of those cold heat soldering irons(infomercial days and it’s that one that is cold to the touch as soon as ur done using it and mine is brand new score… thanks again for the little things that can make a difference @Nagel420 love the MacGyver skills(especially when you are talking about the switches for auto shutoff)and unfortunately my cold heat soldering iron doesn’t get near as hot and I think it’s gonna be a fun time experimenting with it and f8nd the sweet spot for temperature
Its also kinda fun pulling the iron away from the bowl and seeing how long you can get the wisp of smoke before the “strand” breaks. I really like this “method”. It wouldn’t take much to get me to turn most of my buds to temple balls now… LOL
@DrGonzo13 I am curious how the cold-heat soldering iron works for this. I have / had one around here as well, remember it worked well for small electronics soldering without burning other stuff on the board (what I bought it for). I thought it needed contact with something metallic though, or to be near to a metallic object. I’d be curious how it works for this though!
MacGuyver skills are a must have! Especially if the world ever goes into armegeddon mode. Seriously though thats the product of an overthinking mind. Always looking for more knowledge, different tips, tricks and ways to do stuff. I’ve even figured out this can be portable as I have seen butane fueled portable soldering irons
I’ve been able to get it to work with a tip from the kit I got a long time ago that broke and it will work with any surface touched to but I can’t get consistent heat so now it’s gonna be this one which is what u mean by portable and I have 3 tips to screw on it
Bonus to this method? No problems lighting up in windy areas!
edit: the silver one in the bottom right of the 2nd pic is the cold iron I have as well LOL
edit edit: Got the voice control working, and automation for timer setup (and being tested, will know in 10 mins if its working properly, first automation I am writing for something to turn off in 10 mins based on HA sensing it was turned on)
Ya know how cool it is to say “Hey hey booboo turn on the mind eraser” and see the switch go on? If it goes off on its own, done deal! (yes, hey booboo is a secret alternative to saying hey google, since you cant change trigger words)
And yes I usually add a bit of yogi bears accent ROFL
probably 15 years old…I tend to find myself since I started growing 3 years ago to look at something before I throw it away and think if there’s anything I can repurpose it for, mostly for my grow gear but I’m not gonna mess with the cold heat one to finiky and not enough power from the smaller soldering it’s made for but shit the butane torch/soldering iron is multipurpose smoke hash or use without the soldering attachment and then u have a mini torch for dabs unless your nail is HUGE I absolutely love the name…“The Mind Eraser” by @Nagel420
I took hotknifing to another level by cuting the end off two butterknifes and had a friend that could weld stainless attach them to a heavy duty hemostat toheat open the jaws and clamp onto electric burner. the hash is stuck on pointed end of needl that is stuck through and held by cardboard. and just remebered i quickly broke that one as it was hard to clamp on burner and had to use one with longer thinner jaws. . had a flash for a redesign think of the possibilities of hand held garlic press and all the holes to release the smoke through and attach a car ciggarette lighter to that and a 110volt ac to twelve vot dc adapter or even heat with a torch. then drop your preferred size chunk of hash in and squeeze out the smoke through the holes, scrape and repeat till either you or the hash no longer abides in this reality
I use one of these. It is called a Herb Iron.
The power button has to be held to operate so once released it is turned off. There is a built in stand on it when you are finished. It takes about 7 seconds to get hot enough to vaporize bud or hash just by hovering it over the material.
They are pretty damn pricey if they even make them anymore. Every part on it is made in the US, so there is that.
I inherited mine when a friend passed away 5 years ago and it gets used multiple times daily. It is a quality device.
$90 or so for the herb iron isn’t bad for the peace of mind auto-shutoff brings. We all know we forget shit after imbibing
Made a few adjustments here. Added a trigger phrase so either “Hey Google, Start the Mind Eraser” or “Hey Google, its Time to Smoke” begins the “routine”
The routine will:
Turn on the iron
Turn on my desk lamp
Change the desk lamp color to red
Start Phish Radio on Sirius XM on my office speaker
Set the volume to 5
After 9 minutes it will announce “1 minute to shutdown”
After 10 minutes it will:
Turn off the iron
Reset the desk light to the color white
Turn off the desk light
Music continues to play
Will NEVER forget and leave the iron on… Ever!
The light is a nice reminder that its still on.
Auto-starting my music is a bonus.
Tested the routine multiple times, hehehe, and gotta say, I am hooked.
Portable! I have a mini butane similar to that but its not possible to add the solder tip to mine (its similar to that one but no metal at all in front of the plastic, its almost as if its cut flush to the front of the plastic.)
