The seed horde: preparing for the end of prohibition

So for the last 6 months or so I’ve been gathering a nice collection of limited edition and super potent strains. My thinking is that with the way things look cannabis prohibition is swiftly coming to a close. With that there will be a nation wide green rush like what happened in Cali, Oregon, Washington, and Colorado. Only it will be for elite genetics and potent strain. So all the seeds you’d want to buy from your favorite strain won’t be available. Plus I have a feeling everybody and their brother will try and grow with shitty to mediocre results cause “it’s only weed. How hard can it be”. Basically what you see with new growers but on a national scale. Thoughts? Comments? Opinions? Am I crazy lol?

I always read about strains that are gone, and you can’t find them now. So i buy what i like and stash them. If you are crazy then i am there with you.

Along with some gibberellic acid, just in case…

I’ve given away thousands of seeds since prohibition ended here last November. It’s like a dream. For years I saved extras, thinking maybe someday this plant will be free, and I can enable hundreds or thousands of people to grow cannabis. The dream came true. Everyone seems really excited about growing the seeds, way more than I expected.

I have a proprietary strain “Fat Grape” of which I’ve given about 2,000 seeds away here in Massachusetts since November, in free 10-packs. It was extremely satisfying! I have actually used a screen name of “Johnny Hempseed” on some websites

That’s awesome bro. I hope one day I’ll be able to do the same here in my part of Missouri.

Missouri? ouch. Take heart, I just saw this article on the 9 states that will never legalize and Missouri was not on the list!

PS…I hope you’re planning to watch the eclipse

Not only am I gonna watch it. I’m harvesting my Scott’s OG that day lol

I think cali would give us a good look at recreational MJ will look like with the latest passing of prop 64.

If anything, there will be more cultivars to pick from,

There are plenty of gardeners and farmers that are very competent growing just about anything.I think its impressive they can make a living off of petunias, or other plants with a much lower profit margin. Just because they dont grow weed every day do not underestimate their skillset. A good gardener has a better understanding of plant and trees that is easily applied to cannabis production.

I would take a nursery worker or farmer over a specialized cannabis gardner, . There are so many tricks of the garden industry that canna tries to take credit for but is typical in the greenhouse industry.

I’m not underestimating their skills at all or trying to discount their contributions to agriculture. I agree with you. I looked to farmers and Agriculture specialists to learn and understand permaculture, not specialized cannabis growers. I live in the corn belt, I know a lot of people that can grow just about anything you put in their hands. But, I also know even more people who can kill closet plants. As you pointed out, the future cannabis business will have high margins than petunia’s. Because of that I think you’ll have a much higher percentage of people that have no idea what they’re doing or how to do it. That, in my mind, leads to things like the story I read from NBC stating that 93% of the buds they tested from SoCal failed testing for one or more pesticide
