Legal Cannabis States and Cannabis Valuation

Looking at OTC legal cannabis here in socal I’ve seen in the last few months the donation amounts for legal and medical cannabis drop to prices that make indoor lighting grows become reduced.

Huge greenhouse grows going up al;l over the socal area and with some smaller operations collapsing and selling equipment on many sites cheap.

what are the answers to still having an small op and a demand for product?

my opinion…

  1. unique strain.

  2. grown to full expression.

  3. more exposure on social media.

  4. possable testing of product?

  5. JUST GROW YOUR OWN.

your input would be appreciated thank you.

just do the things that large-scale production growers can’t do. Use organic soil whole-nutrient medium. Use no chemical pesticides or fertilizers. Hand-trim.

personally I’ve become accustomed to my own organic-soil herb for years and pretty much all commersh weed tastes bad to me.

If you are doing this to make money, hold on tight. Rough roads ahead.

If you are doing this for your own medicinal needs / recreational use, shoot for high quality.

yeah it depends on what you’re doing… if you’re selling to dispensaries they almost exclusively care about the high THC results and bag appeal… if you’re consistently hitting 25-30% THC with a tight hand trim and good cure you’ll always be able to find a buyer at a good price

There is now doubt that the price of cannabis has been dropping dramatically as it becomes more and more legal. Once it is treated like an agricultural crop, prices could drop as low as tomatoes. Very few people make a living growing tomatoes, but many enjoy growing them anyway.

I have a feeling that it will become like wine or beer. You will have your mass produced product marketed to the masses, and then you will have your craft products marketed toward conisours.

idk that would be like $5 per pound… i think it should be the same as any other agricultural crop like wheat or tomatos but i don’t think it’ll ever be like that in canada, otherwise all these LPs which invested hundreds of millions would go broke, and they’re all owned by cronies of the leading liberal party… they’re trying to maintain former black market prices of $10 per gram :expressionless:

they’ll never let your average farmer plant a whole field of cannabis up here, not any time soon at least :frowning:

So I live in Florida. I have a medical marijuana card that requires you to see a doctor every 6 months, and renewed every year. I was excited about getting my card, because that meant I could purchase legally. Well flowers are illegal to smoke even with a card. The extract to vape age like $72 for 3/4g. So that’s the reason im growing besides fun.

Now that Michigan has legalized, our ONLY licensed facility in the U.P. (16,377 sq/mi.) raised their prices 40%. $10/g is cheap, lol. Talk about gouging, Ouch!

That’s why me & da Misses grow! 12 Med plants for her, and now, 12 Rec plants for my upcoming breeding experiments. More people will start growing, and the black market will flourish.

Here in Wa state the dispensary prices have been falling since it became legal to grow at home. You can often find bud for $5/g or less - depending on the strain and strength. Ive seen stories about growers having to throw away bud because they couldnt sell it - the market in Oregon for example seems to be over saturated and Wa state is close to that…

The average for hi end bud is also down a lot. I suspect the folks thinking the commercial growing is going to make them billionaires are going to be disappointed.

I agree with others that this will likely end up like wine/beer - hi end, low end and craft or home brew. The big growers are going to be stuck on the low end.

Larry - is home growing now legal in Washington? I thought the Legislature had not passed that bill.

Its legal for medical card holders (6 plants?), but as far as I know, they are not going after any home growers of any kind. Im sure if you got busted selling illegally, or some other major crime, they would go after you, but other wise, no one seems to care.

That sounds similar to Colorado, as far as glut and low retail prices. $100 ounces for top grade. As soon as I got my grow up and going I rarely buy weed from a shop. Almost never.

It still seems kinda of pricey up in the FC area of CO the one shop that touts all organic sells at 17$/gram 55$ or so for an 1/8th never tried there high pricesd stuff but other dispensaries have cheaper stuff I didn’t care for at all! I have several friends I’d shared bud with stating that mines as good or better than anything found in the stores around here.

Ohio started selling medical a couple days ago. There are four dispensaries and they sold 8.7 lbs for a total of $75,000. So that works out to over $19 a gram or around $538 an oz. That’s just crazy to me, but it’s all about supply and demand.

As far as OTC weed. All I can say is from what I have experienced. The only “legal” weed I have purchased was out in Las Vegas last year. I got to say, I was not too impressed with what I got compared to what I have grown. I probably tried half a dozen different strains and they all were very similar. Similar taste, effect, etc.

So I think if you grow and sell, then all you really need is word of mouth. If you grow superior weed for a good price, people will find you. No advertising needed.

This has been my experience with medical in NM, as well as rec in CA and CO. It’s hard to beat small batch of craft cannabis. :+1::seedling:

I agree with you two. I’ve come across a strain or two, but normally, very similar everything.

Growing weed is like craft brewing good beer! Small craft batch for the win!!

Growing and selling - without a license - would probably get you looked at fairly closely if you get caught  No need to say this Im sure, but good luck and be careful if you do.

Yes, I totally agree.

I would never encourage anyone to do anything illegal. My comments where based solely on hypothetical situations😃.

@Medfinder, in MI the answer is #5. Unless you’ve got the $$$$. Prove you’ve got $50K liquid assets + access to another $200K, the state may approve your Class A application to grow 150 plants commercially ($2M for class C = 2K plants). If so, then #1 & #2 apply (#4 is mandatory here). It doesn’t seem worth it imho.
We’re in for a rough ride here in MI. There’s little supply & huge demand. 3 recalls for E.Coli, Salmonella, & chemical residue so far, this very, new year!

Spot on @anon32470837
