The Spice must grow. Blessed be the Little Maker!

Yep with you on this one. More info better than no info.

My next feline to depilate is nutrients levels. I’ve been winging it wi Jack’s city limits package.

I’m confused. Aren’t they $50-70 each plus shipping/taxes? My DIY versions are shaping up to look like around $20-30 each for something triple the size, and when I was using 2gal tubs with 1gal pots it was closer to $5 each. Is there something I’m missing, like does each reservoir include an air pump of its own to keep the water oxygenated? Or are you talking about DIY versions rather than using one of the Octopot 3 gallon systems?

Talking about these brown 1gall bases I’m using as octos. They’re 20 bucks for 2 on Amazon.

Ok, so that is the DIY version, that makes more sense. I guess they’ve gone up in price, I bought my 2g totes about 6 years ago. Inflation’s a bitch… back then it was more like $5, maybe 10 for both the tote and a 1g pot, though I hadn’t realized yet that fabric was better. Was basically using the same system though, SIPs with wicking material at the bottom of the pot for constant bottom-watering from the reservoir and an eventual outlet for the roots. In that case, agreed, it’s cheap and much more effective than top-watering on a daily basis.

Keep an eye out for the deals, they periodically offer a coupon and I paid like $15 for 2, like 25% off!! But they will only apply to ONE in your cart. If you have two in the cart its $15 for one, and $20 for the other. In that case, since I have prime, I just make an order of one, then another order of one ($15 ea time then! yay!) And free ship anyways, whether its one, or two…

Tent today. Nightowls on day 76. No ambers yet. I’ll check them again towards the end of the week.

WCxGG4 unhappy after a week of PK boost. Getting some reds here too.

WC f2. This one is puzzling me. I’m not happy with how airy the flowers turned. One moment it had tight flowers blinked and now I have these… I don’t understand why. Hopefully they fill out a bit.

I don’t think you are doing anything wrong!
They are throwing fresh pistils like there’s no tomorrow…
Let’s see how they stack.

Thanks @Gpaw! Appreciate the kind words.

I guess it ain’t over till the fat lady sings… :joy:.

Still a n00b, had not seen it before. The other plants that grew from these seeds had very different looks… I saw smth new and got worried. Should know better by now.

I’m gonna shut up about it till I cut it.

Uhuh-uhuh, the day is done.

No it doesn’t bother me that that strip is crooked… It don’t bother me at all… Nope… No siree… Fuck…

thinking about things. so far I’ve had 2x XGL-150-AB drivers die one me… one went flickery, called digikey and they overnighted me another. then that one wend 4 months later. both were installed vertically outside the closet. replacement went horizontally inside the closet with a fan pointed directly to it. so far so good.

thing is I have another 2x xgl 150ws in the tent. running 10 strips of EB Gen 3 560mm in series each. What should I buy now in case something bad happens to the XLGs tomorrow? the tent is 3x3.

*edit:

I tend to dwell on things. I’ve no real reason to replace anything. maybe i’m better off just replacing if anything breaks.

Nice variety in your grow and some bodacious buds!

So, what is the little green tube poking into your Octopups? Do you water them using that or???

1/4" tube. I have a 5gall bucket as a rez outside the tent to top off the Octos. water pump, riser + manifold. I used it for the freq fert of previous grows.

I figgered as much, you must move the tube from pot to pot as needed, right?

I don’t use a big reservoir so I’ll be mixing nutes and filling the Octopups by hand. Thinking about cutting a 1" hole to pour into the lid so I don’t have to remove the fragile little water indicators every time.

@Nagel420 is also advising me on components that would allow for an AutoFill setup using a float valve to keep the water levels in the pot at a given level. Just like the big OctoPot systems offer.

yup! it plugs in perfectly into the little nipple on the lid. I now have 2 5gall buckets outside the tent since the plants are at different stages. I’ve found this to be simple to maintain and reliable. both buckets have a fluming pump that I run for ~5-10min before I pump more into the µ-Ocots. I’ve looked at the autofiller setups…i’ve trust issues. I want to be the one who releases the water…

I agree. I have visions of the tent flooding and out on the carpet.

Update on the Mango Sunrise. Day 79 cutting day. Microscope arrived, significant amount of ambers. Chop.

I have my own Xmas star. Red Star.

Tiny plant. My own fault I think. If I get an oz out it’ll be a small miracle. Very pretty plant. I don’t think the pollination took either. Couple of sacks I checked were empty.

Nevertheless, very pretty plant. I’m happy I grew it.

For me it was 10 years of aquarium and pond keeping AND owning my home (no landlord to deal with if I DO an oopsy!) to get me to a trust level with auto topoffs.

I think most people think of it as “set and forget”… And therein lies the problem. Sometimes (nute reservoir), you have almost no issues, maybe a little buildup of solids from evaporation, but generally problem free. But using it near growing stuff, ya GOTTA watch the growing stuff to ensure it doesn’t pull on or effect the float valve. Root, leaves, water plants, they can all cause floods if they keep the valve open… In ponds we would make a chamber for the float valve to isolate it from the problems. In these octopup reservoirs, I am keeping an eye on the roots. Its a bit tight for sure. And I still may design / print some sort of protective grate (but roots find a way, they always do!)

I wondered what the nipple on the lid was for. You aerate your reservoirs in DWC, I figured it was for passing air thru, but under the lid there’s nothing! no nipple, and the hole that IS there is too small for 1/4" rigid airline, or 1/4" nipples even… I think you’ve made the best use of it so far…

After keeping 1400 gallons of saltwater in my home, most of it with auto topoffs, the small 1g reservoirs for my octopups are childsplay LOL  That’s not to say I didn’t have my share of floods in the past. And my worst one wasn’t even using an auto topoff, it was being distracted while filling a tank with a small hose!!!

Gotta agree… Thats a really cool growth pattern, and some fricken awesome colors!

the last 2 Decembers I had to deal with insurance adjusters about flood damage. I get what you’re saying, I just want to eliminate one potential source of further fun. I do not mind turning on a topping off pump. thank you. I’m loving the red. I want to run it again.

@G-paS thank you very much, lady!

So I’m thinking I know why the plants in the fabric pots are growing stunted.

I use a 3" netpots filled with expanded clay to dip into the rezervoir and capillary moisture into the coco. the netpot is a little tight fit on the lid of the µOcto but the weight of the pot pushes it in tight… I’m thinking the moisture evaporated, the netcup lifted above the water. pot went dry but the root are in water.

The full size octos netpot version locks into the bottom of the rez and we are instructed to pack with soil or coco, very dense material in comparison to expanded clay. So they positively have a column of wet media that keeps the rest of the media moist. and yours truly decided she knew better and didnt think it through before hand.

the smart pots are 2gallon, the aerothing is like 2.2 gallon but significantly heavier. its netcup is filled with coco.

I’m keeping the µOctos topped off to the brim.

It’s a Monday, folks.
