I missed this, somehow, earlier.
Actually, they don’t try to get out any more. The first time we saw digging, we watched closely and reprimanded the offender and placed the biggest rocks my wife and I could handle into the hole to give them reference to what was not allowed. After two or three times they got the idea. They have never tried to dig out again. It is a huge pen though as you can see from this picture.
They also get turned out with the goats in the small three acre paddock so they get plenty of exercise.

I admire you for the way you see the world through the eyes of your dogs. So many ppl just keep them in small pens with little exercise.
I’ve always thought that, like ppl, dogs want their lives to be interesting.

Beagle x Australian Shepherd, the best we can figure.
We found him running along a back road one night, out in the middle of nowhere.
He was about 9 weeks old, covered in ticks and fleas.
We took him home, cleaned him up, and he has been here ever since. We figure he was born in June, so he will be 9, next month.
