Santa cruz goat farmer has arcata trainwreck

Thanks, Kaneboy. Canā€™t believe I missed them. Got it added. Appreciate the heads up.

Maybe itā€™s just me but I feel like they are priced so high because they intend you to keep a mother? Either way Iā€™m always down to throw down on high dollar seed packs with enough notice

Yeah. I see what youā€™re saying. You have a point about keeping the clones. I used to struggle with my clones and relied more on good seed stock. I have been picking up all kinds of good knowledge around here and I canā€™t wait to grow my skills. :evergreen_tree:

Awesome! I appreciate the offer. I may hit you up down the road if the offer is an open one. I have to buckle down soon and cover some wedding costs and not feed my need for seed. :sunglasses:
I have a few orders incoming and I get to probably grab a pack or two for the my birthday but then pause. Not that I wonā€™t be window shopping the whole time!

I have been looking around doing some reading and looking at @OriginalDankmaster96 CripXmas Kush project and was inspired by the thick undercarriage and a pine terpinolene mashup. I am thinking the Christmas kush, perhaps a pinetarr kush could help the floppy Trainwreck structure? Does anyone know of a strain that reliably has thick stems besides some of the kushes?

I eventually plan on putting some landrace Durban to some TW but was thinking about getting some thick stemmed support. I would appreciate thoughts and feedback. Durban for taste and Thcv. Looking at Khalifa for the Durban.

I was looking over my notes this morning and I see a contagion haze from old Sog, that might be a good candidate, (Durban F4 x SSH) x (TW x Christmas kush).
Then use a winner male IBL TW to back cross to any keepers. My goal is to create a powerful up sativa dominant day time smoke with a terpinolene and pine forward terpenes that can stand up to coastal weather. Ideally 11 weeks but this is more for a green house or indoor.

Not a hybrid but instead a pure seed line. I wonder if anyone has grown Richard Williams Trainwreck? Available on Hemp Depot.

Based off the old Steve Tuck line? Havenā€™t heard much about it.

Anyway, could be good breeding stock if you wanted to make some of your own TW hybrids.

Also Iā€™ve had good luck with BeanHo gear in general but havenā€™t given any of his TW hybrids a shot. It should be noted the Black Widow crosses are old beans and could have some trouble sprouting, possibly low germ rates. I got 50% germ with his Jack Herer x BW and 20% with his Sensi Star x BW using my normal seed popping technique (fairly lazy, just put the seed in sterilized pro-mix). Iā€™m sure good rates could still be achieved with more effort and more advanced techniques. The Black Widow is a nice breeding plant though especially for structure.

The Trainwreck x Sweet Tooth #3 could be interesting but Iā€™ve heard mixed reports on the ST3 crosses in general. Havenā€™t grown any myself

Thanks! I appreciate the heads up. @HobbyCraft
I have been looking hard at the Beanho list. I have always heard great things about the sweet tooth but I have heard it struggles with mold. I doubt my seed sprouting is up to snuff for the TW x BW. Love the thought of that cross though.
The TW x Friesland might have the resistance to mold Iā€™m looking for and hopefully upgrade that floppy TW frame? That might be a better source for the pine/terpinolene combo Iā€™m looking for. Good food for thought.

I made an edit to my post with more elaboration on the BW germ rates. I donā€™t think its as bad as I made it sound in my initial wording. The Friesland cross does sound cool, I canā€™t seem to find it on the menu though.

He has TW x F13 which could be a nice one. I havenā€™t tried any of the F13 crosses myself.

" Trainwreck x F13 regular

Indoor
The Arcata Trainwreck clone meets F13 in a beautiful hybrid that really showcases the best of both stains and minimizes the less desirable traits. It has a very unique and intense, clear and introspective high on a plant that has a much more sturdy and stable structure. Good yielding plant with sandalwood and berry flavors.

Indoor flowering 8 weeks "

The F13 is a DJ short uhh mind is blanking out. Iā€™m in the car. That might be the ticket. Blue Moonshine? Says Flo x BB. Iā€™m thinking about that very seriously. Thanks @HobbyCraft

Apparently I dreamed up the TW x Friesland. Might have to mess with that as a side project.

I ended up reaching out to great lake genetics and they are doing a restock of Santa Cruz goat farms (s1) arcata trainwreck seeds. $150 for 10 I believe? I did a lot of hunting and his is believed to be the most legit but he said in one description (canā€™t remember the wesbite) that CSI humboldt offers the same cut as him essentially and itā€™s $100 for idk how many seeds. Iā€™ll be going with the Santa Cruz Goat Farm myself

My twenty 20 Mendocino train wreck is great. GLG carries them for 6 fems 45$ or 3 for 30 I think. Wait for the sale every few months.

I appreciate the feedback @Amendment3. I have been hearing good things about the Mendo twenty 20 TW. My next grab is most likely is going to be the Mendo 20/20 and the Beahhorder TW x F13.
@HighTilliDie. I havenā€™t ever had the chance to run any selfed genetics. I know some of the cannabis community really has embraced it while others arenā€™t as keen. How has your grow experience with them been?

Iā€™m not any kind of expert but the S1 thing seems to be a quick back door to getting a possible look at what the plant may look like at an inbred point. This seems like it may be beneficial to locking in an expression but does that process change the DNA farther away from the self?
Iā€™m not against S1 plants by any means just wanting to understand better. I guess since I have the IBL regs that seems to me a better place to start from than an S1?..
Correct me if I am wrong.

Never ran a selfed seed before. Maybe some other breeders have some input to help. This will be my first attempt with anything selfed. @funkyfunk @Fuel @JohnnyPotseed you guys got anything to add?

Thatā€™s sweet of you to call me, but Iā€™m no breeder.

Nor do I know trainwreck much. But anything mexican x thai has my attention lol

Thatā€™s the old question regarding how to get the closest to a clone from seed. And thereā€™s no real fast answer. It depends of the plant, its lineage, and how stable/dominant/inbred it is. Itā€™s worth having a look at the sexual stability of the clone too, or itā€™s progeny if there are reports about that.

Itā€™s a complex question and I donā€™t feel like writing the whole 420 chapters it means, and not even really reply clearly to the question.

Let say that without being able to get the clone, a S1 can be a good bet to start hunting for the plant you want. It does not stop you to get more seeds, from crosses or backcrosses. The later is a good option too, if you find a reputable breeder that has worked it, specially if the clone is not sexually stable. With a good breeder, theyā€™d have chosen the right outcross and selection to (try to) breed that out.

From seeds, S1 or bx, you wonā€™t get the exact same plant. With S1 you can get closer and faster but it has drawbacks. If the clone isnā€™t stable sexually for example, chances are that your seeds will be worth on that matter.

In any way, the more the seeds you can get and test, S1, BX or outcrosses, the better you have a chance to find a plant or combos of plants to mate that will get you close to what you want, and even better.

Iā€™m not telling you to become a seed junky though. Continue to read on this subject, and do with what you have at hands and can afford. Try that S1 and youā€™ll learn a lot about trainwreck by looking at its children. Iā€™m sure youā€™ll get over here the help you need when times comes.

Not 420 chapters, but close
