Understanding breeding, how to achieve the best an strongest high, false beliefs an inbreeding depresion

Regardless, it’s just an example of the molecular trade off not being exclusive in nature…indoor, outdoor…they dont magically stop depending on how you grow.
And no, sorry, i dont know more detail on them @Pannonian but i know they are valid

Trade offs is something that I believe in.
Stress is reduced by keeping the environment healthy for the plant. For me, Over feeding will produce most negative responses.
I have learned to keep my plant environment at a constant so the plant doesn’t have to take time to readjust every time there is a change.
Plants are as efficient as they are effective at gathering nutrition. You have to think that the organism gave up it mobility. And then ask the question why. The primary reasons would be that it was getting all the nutrition that it needs.
Or food was so scare that mobility exhausted too much energy to be supported.
Either way plants are good at what they do, which is making the best of any given situation.
This is testament for how long the plant has been here and how many obstacles that it has faced in order to gain it proficiency.

No need to wait 24-48 hours unless you want to. Pollen can be sprayed down to deactivate after a half hour or so and you’ll still have complete pollination. 2 hours if you really want to be positive but I’ve done both and came out with thousands of beans either way regardless :+1:

If this was the case then wouldn’t all the plants in that environment be of equal thc production. We all know that doesn’t happen.

Ran out and waiting for some to dry…went to the dispensary,

Me-You got ‘some_strain’?
BudTender- that was 2-3 years back.

They change strains like they change clothes… better==new_strain_of_the_week/month

:musical_note: ‘telling my whole life, with his words’

lost me on that one.

but seriously, damn the torpedoes! I was looking forward to the responses from the sativa==non-alcoholic beer one. Sometimes a contriversial statement is necessary to initiate any dialogue with meat in it.

Yeah, i know but its a fix idea for me.

Different genetics would carry different defenses and the degree of how much the plants are balancing the defenses. We know that terps are bacterial, fungal and insect defense. Its also a way to attract a specific type of insect to increase pollination.

So what you say there is just ‘sprout more seeds’ I agree but as lefthandseeds points out need to be able to maximize your plants as well. Not saying a novice grower cannot stumble upon an exceptional cross out of the blue… just the odds are better if you make sure you know how to get the most out of a strain and each is different. And each of those different ones through epigenetics will express differently in different climates.

Is this true? I have questions about the effects of some stresses at varying magnitudes and times. Like would it not be better to run a just little dry at the end to encourage the plant exhibit some drought tolerance. What are the effects of running in the heat all the time like @V4vendetta does in his attic? do his plants get more potent than mine. The environment and how the plant responds may not always require ‘Eden’ for the highest potency.

How many weeks into flower do you like to bring in the male to do the pollination?

@Weedison Week 3-4 will give the best result

Im saying that some crosses might give you less potency and some will increase it. If you are aiming for potency alone, out crossing is the best way to achieve this since you recombine the chromosomes.

And is that with male and female flipped at the same time? Also I’ve heard people say they pollinate maybe one branch of a plant, and cover it for a day to get a bit of those seeds. If anyone on here has done that, do you notice that taking energy from the rest of plant? Smaller less dense buds? Or does it just use the energy it would’ve for that branch and keep pumping with the rest

right. And mine was that blindly following the latest fashion may well give less of an increase than learning to grow the best strain you have on hand better.

Yeah, If you are going to breed some proper genetics, you need to be able to grow. So i dont account for how good youre at growing. Im talking about the genetics of the plant. Its what matter once you know wtf youre doing :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Males “flower” faster then females so they are ready from week 2-6. Some are super fast and some are very slow. Only pollinating one branch is really good If you are not a bean producer. The buds you pollinate will get about 30% smaller but the rest of the plant are pretty much uneffected.

It will take about 6 weeks for the buds to produce lots of viable beans

I guess i fit in the lucky category.
My background is breeding high caliber performance dogs. I learned how to get them to consistently produce. I took that knowledge and applied it to the plants.
I had my strain long before I was able to grow a decent plant. I used to tell myself that it didn’t make any sense to have a plant like mine and not have to abilities to grow it decently.
All the stuff I was reading about how to grow mostly pertain to photo and works just fine for them. As some of you know those same techs don’t produce great results for autos.
For me running dry and feeding low offer the best results for both photo and autos.
By heart pounding, i mean I prefer plants that initiate a powerful stress responses when smoked.
Immediately reduction in motor response.
The Hair standing all over my body. Increased heart rate. You will be surprised at how many strains that no longer give rapid heart. Stuff like that has been bred out of modern cannabis as it was deemed not a necessity since most people cannot handle the effects. However I enjoy it and prefer it to more calmer strains. It’s impossible to predict the body’s response when subjected to a substance. The body will try multiple ways in order to alleviate the conditions. Trip.

I like to pollinate at days 21 and 28 for most plants that finish at or under 10 weeks. Longer flowers would be a week or so later.

Yeah I haven’t seen anything like that in roughly ~20 years. Old heads around here used to grow out plants like that all the time but ever since colorado legalized we’ve just been inundated with modern mids.

Even I, right now, don’t have anything like that. I have some really potent lines from old genetics that I’m still working on, but haven’t gotten close to that old school power I remember. Debilitating highs. 1-hit green outs. Stuff you could’ve swore was laced. I’ve definitely seen it. But it’s been a loooong time.
