Uruguay’s Marijuana Experiment

I read this article in the WaPo and thought some of you may be interested.
It will be fascinating to see how this plays out.
I have mixed feelings about this🙄

Sounds like interesting experiment…

MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay — In coming weeks, cannabis-seeking citizens in this small South American nation will be able to walk into a pharmacy and buy government-approved marijuana for the state-mandated price of $1.30 a gram. No questions asked. No doctor’s note required.

Also price is very fair

From article:
“strengths of 5 and 10 percent THC.”

Yes, the price appears to be fair…however at $36.40 per ounce, you can only buy up to 10% THC!
Hmmm.

Measurement depends on the methodology  But 10% is strong enough in my eyes

I hate to say it but that is another country that i would be an outlaw in. Controlling a plant and stifling its use is barbaric. Yet another place where people should grow there own where no one is looking. You can’t control everybody no matter how many words you write on a piece of paper.

Yes I agree. Especially at $1.30 per gram!
Besides, I have been smoking ganja since way before anyone much cared about any percentage of THC.

As has always been the case, the proof is in the puff(s), regardless of any percentages.

I am only questioning the cap imposed by the Government of Uruguay. Why?

Will black market, higher percentage cannabis sell for much more than that which is available at the pharmacies?
Hmmm.

Here is a follow up piece in today’s NYT

Excerpted from article:

@LemonadeJoe
The law also bars advertising and sets aside a percentage of proceeds from commercial sales to pay for addiction treatment and public awareness campaigns about the risks of drug use.
