Cracked the group on top…let’s see how long till the uncracked sprout. Seeds are Bag Seed at least five years old, did not soak seeds.

Tried and true method with older seeds bud. Be interesting to see how long it takes for the others to pop. Cool experiment.

Glad the idea is working out for you man, worked great first time I tried so I gave it a share, crazy how these things spread.

Put seed in closed vice grip. Spin little wheel on back till you hear it crack. Bam the shell is cracked and can now take water in easier. Great for older seeds and landraces

That’s pretty ingenious. Definitely worth experimenting with.

I wanted to practice on these before I do it on any I care about. I’ll show what I did when I’m home again.

This is the first time I have heard of using vice grips. Definitely interested in the idea. Once again Ive tried thinking of a cheap, easy way to crack seed with no luck. This is the ticket for me, I’ve got a small fairly new pair on hand …that’s even better. Thanks for sharing

Ok so I just held the seed between the jaws at a distance so it is just held in place.

Then turn the little wheel thing till you hear the smallest little crack.

The straight vice grips would be better. I had the seeds every which way in the vice grips and they all worked other than the first one that I just smushed. :open_mouth:

Looked at these, even had in my cart but I read about the vice grips and thought I’d give it a shot.
