Looking good! Seems there will be some fat beans here
The Vortex looks great. I see seed shucking in your future.
Thanks @funkyfunk and @Tejas, yes I’ve got a lot of seed shucking coming up and I’m brainstorming ways to go about it more easily, though I’ll probably just do what everyone says and get it dry and crush by hand, screening and sifting out the twigs and leaves and calyxes and letting the seeds drop to the bottom. Or maybe a fan or vacuum method, we will see! I think I can just have a friend or two help and we can make a work gang setup to get it all done pretty quickly.
Hoping to chop in a week but I have to extract some seeds from each mom plant and take a look at how mature they are, the Janis x Vortex went two weeks longer than I expected but the seeds are all looking medium to dark brown and striated, mature to my eye. So I might end up giving these two more weeks then a few weeks of hard drying at 50% RH and 70F in my basement then start shucking just after the New Year. I’m going to cure the seeds with some oven dried beans or rice for a month to get them good and dry, maybe in my 45F dorm fridge to make sure they are ready to poop when people get them. I anticipate being able to ship to the coop group by early February!
Shuck yeah you do have some seed shucking in your future - nice work man!
Look forward to a little finger hash, too!
Day F66 all’s well. Quiet on the front, not expecting any drama from these plants after they took my brutal coiling down and then filled the tent, I’ll keep the updates coming more frequently now that it’s primo bud and seed photo time for you sickos:
When a sickos thows names at others… Welcome to the club
That will be sweet but my real reward will be making dry ice hash with the leftovers after shucking seed, having an ounce or whatever of sativa hash in the fridge sounds like a nice thing
My thoughts exactly!
That’s the plan for mine.
The thought of having a bunch of Vortex hash is mouthwatering haha
Day F68, I noticed this morning that the topmost buds on the #4 mom plant (the runt that got tall and columnar in the end when left untopped instead of being crazily vining like the others) had seeds almost bursting out of the pods in a starburst right on top. So anyways that’s when I started blasting:
Looking like the upper seeds are fully matured, a few more days and I’ll feel good about the lowers too but I’ll check today:
This Vortex stud really did his duty, there’s this whole tent of F2s and then me letting the pollen just circulate in the basement meant that a couple of plants in flower caught it too. I figure if most plants have a two week window for pollination and then I let the male dump for a few weeks himself that’s quite a bit of overlap with a few of my flowering (no longer) sensi plants. So far I’ve found numerous mature seeds in my FDM Janis and TGTB Big Don, I think there’s a few in the Copa Zip Tape but I’ve only found immature ones so far and not too many. Same thing with Frogspawn but there’s two phenos there to look through, maybe one caught pollination more than the other.
Yes sir having an oz of sativa hash sounds like a good time to me
Dirt_Wizard == Vortex_Wizard!
Just caught up on this epic grow @Dirt_Wizard. Thanks so much for the effort and congratulations on an inspirational project.
Very Well Done,
-Grouchy
Thanks @GrouchyOldMan ! It was a hair-pulling first time but it all ended up okay in the end, and now I’m ready to keep going making seed preservations with the rarer and older packs I have.
F71 and I might actually decide to chop one of these days, they’re starting to get beautifully mangy and senescent. Pulled them out to get some pheno photos:
Mom 1
Mom 2
Awesome possum!
F76 and that’s all she wrote, folks! Pulled the plug on the light timer last night and they’re sitting in darkness right now waiting for me to chop and hang them this afternoon. They’ve gone purple and black and real done looking, and finally started drinking less water. All the seeds I’ve checked top and bottom seem done so I think that it is time for me to get drying, shucking, and packing for you folks, tagging @DougDawson to let him know this Coop Run has been a success and is wrapping up now.
I need pictures!!!
The lights are off!
Hahaha I got you man I’m gonna go crack it soon
Big thanks again to everyone who made this happen:
@buckaroobonsai
@Guitarzan
@Weednerd.Anthony
@CADMAN
For their generous donation of seeds
The entire Coop Action Group for everything they do
@Tardis808 for preserving it himself and having a good knowledge of the strain that’s been helpful to read about
And my partner for listening to me talk about my plant babies even more than usual as I alternately stressed and gloried my way through this first preservation seed run of many to come.
