Welcome to Meesh's Garden

Here’s hoping they come up! Gonna plant them tomorrow

Got the caladiums planted. It was 80 degrees here today. My Man was laying out in the backyard when I got home from my client’s office. lol Gotta love Cali!

Gave all the plants a kelp foliar. Figured they could use a boost since some are just coming out of dormancy and the container plants haven’t been fertilized in 2 weeks. Plants are gonna be super happy when I see them tomorrow.

Shit, I forgot to log the day I actually direct sowed those black eyed susan vine seeds. I logged the day I was gonna do it and didn’t. sigh That was 17 days ago. I’m thinking the 10-15 days germ time is up. They may not sprout, dammit!

I’m such a stoner. I keep remember stuff I want to log. First sprout sighting on that spiller flower the sibella carmine. That was one that I sowed in a huge pot. Greenhouse seeds haven’t shown me anything yet neither has the other big pot I sowed dichondra in. According to this journal, it’s been 7 days. So anytime now. It’s time to start planting more stuff. I want to get some bells of ireland going

Is trapping snails and slugs with beer the only way to get rid of them?

Planted my second scented geranium in the half barrel planter along with some dwarf nasturtium seeds and the new mini fan trellis. Direct sowed Bells of Ireland in a few spots in the planters and some Park Seeds Candy lilies in the planter where an apple tree used to be. Shook slug pellets around the entire perimeter of the veggie patch and all over the flowers planters. Seen those slimy suckers all over when I took Jezzy out to pee the other night and I see some holes in my leaves. Hope they eat them and all die. I wonder what the hell the purpose of slugs is. So far, I see no reason for them except to destroy stuff. I’ll sift out some diatemaceous earth over all the planters in the next few days too. It’s pincher bug season. Don’t need an over population like last year when they devastated all my spring seedlings. I’m being much more proactive this year and earlier to boot.

Hey, I have geranium growing in my front window. I forgot. I keep them going all year. When I moved into the house lots of things from the lady before remained. The house plants were part of it. They were in rough shape as she became sick and couldn’t keep up. Now they are robust and beautiful and I know she would get a kick out of it. I kept two other plants, too, and they are all thriving. Maybe I’ll get a pic when it’s day.

You know i love plant pics! I saw some geraniums in half barrel planters yesterday and they had filled the whole things. So I decided to try and grow mine huge too!

Got this! Cuz is it a real Cali garden without a cheesy plastic flamingo? It’s truly the little things in life

No dear, that’s Florida. California is a large collection of “cheesy” looking Gnomes

Hey Everyone.

Am going to be ordering some innoculant for my peas and beans and it looks like it will also work with my clover. There is no way in hell I am going to use all of it (says it will inoculate 50# of seeds for the 6oz package). If anyone needs some, let me know. I will be ordering in the next couple of days so should have it in a week.

What’s that? I’m not familiar I don’t think.

We had a real spring type day today. 68º and no howling winds. Perfect. I got lots done outside.

Man, the birds are even coming through already. They come in and hang out like they’re happy as hell. I have some apricot and plum trees out back and was out there noticing that the bull elk that was in my yard recently was in that area of the garden (poop) and then a handful of Chickadees flew down into the trees and right up to me. I always try and whistle and chirp just to say hello and they were responding back. Cool as hell. they were flying all around me and landing right near me. I am so ready for spring. My comfrey plants in the pots were even peaking out of the soil. Awesome. Can’t wait to see more of your flowers! Peace.

Legumes are “Nitrogen Fixers”, they take nitrogen out of the air and store them in little nodules that release it into the soil. They do it, on a small level, normally, but if you “inoculate” them with certain microbials, they do it on a larger scale. This is the main reason folks use clover (also a legume) as a over winter cover crop. In the spring, they just till it in a plant their crops.

I will let you know when it gets here (ended up ordering it tonight) and I will bring it by, with the sunflower seeds, and pick up the seeds from Canna.

Heh, yeah, it was a treat. You could just tell the birds were happy. I love trying to talk to them. I wonder what I’m saying? I think the Chickadees were passing through. I don’t remember seeing them here before, at my house.

I took the old satellite dish apart and dismantled it. It was a monster at almost 9’ diameter on a huge pedestal and frame. Now I have more yard space. It was in a corner close the fence and prevented the use of that part of the yard and flowers. It was also a nesting place for the wasps… I like them but hate bumping into a nest that low to the ground.

I may use the dish to make a pond for the birds… or make it into a shade cloth type of cover for plants that get too much sun. It’s a mesh and would work but I
think trying to buy some real shade cloth will be better. I sort of like the idea of turning it into a pond but that takes a lot of space again. I may create a small one somehow. The birds would love it. So, I don’t know what to do with it.

The sun is out again finally but it’s windy today and more clouds. Still warm by our standards though. Looks like we get an inch of snow in about 5 days so I’ll get out again today pretty soon.
