Welcome to Meesh's Garden

Their all probably hiding in the shade of the cannabis trees or or some mulch some where on the other side of the fence , organic matter holds onto water exceptionally well even in 100+Degree with weeks of it however I’ll bet if you laser temp that soil even in direct sunlight soil temps could be 15-25 degrees cooler Mother Earth like being cover help her out and she will return the favor 10 fold!

So, I had lost my gardening mojo for awhile. Of course, I maintained with watering and dug out some grass and weeds, but my heart wasn’t in it. Until today… I had an absolute blast out in the garden for a few hours today.

Had the man till up a strip of grass that had grown over the veggie/cannabis patch the other day. So today, I went out, raked and leveled it. Planted half a strip of green onion seeds and the other half Poppy seeds. Those poppy seeds are so small, I just sort of scattered them in there. Hope they come up. I don’t have a lot left if they don’t come up for spring. Since that interesting article @BarefootAndBlazed posted I suppose I dont have to worry about how to find more seeds. lol Any seed store!! I’m not gonna score them if they grow, but I will dry the pods and dabble with making some tea. SSH… dont tell anybody!

I also got my sweet pea seeds sown by the trellis. This year I’m gonna have Dad add another trellis layer. The vines would have gotten so much taller last year had it been built up. My plan was to plant some Larkspur seeds, but I got out there and couldn’t find a space for them. Oh well. I have masses of Bells of Ireland volunteers popping up already. I’ll have to thin them out eventually. Like this week or they’ll take over the planter again.

Spent time getting rid of a bunch of spent container annuals that have been cluttering up the yard. Also went at the Gardenia bush. I thought the dirt in there was compact by the looks of it, but quickly found that it is soft and loamy. Scratched around the drip line a bit and added some EWC around the drip line. This damn plant needs to show me something. I was content to just keep it alive for a year. That was a victory in itself, but I’m ready for some action now. Something. lol

I just planted this a few weeks ago. It’s slowly filling in…

i don’ see any chives  looking good though. Is that one a rosemary up front left?

Try as I might, I can’t grow any damn chives! lol The wheelbarrow is all flowers, the spiller is silver falls dichondra. Starting top left is snapdragons (only one bloom at the moment) dark red, White and Lavender Stock, more snapdragons (no blooms in pic) orange, In front of the stock is African daisies one yellow (not shown, that was last week lol) one purple, magenta dianthus, pansies and all the little blobs tucked in is sweet alyssum as a filler. I stuck a few windflower and crocus bulbs underneath as well. The Silver Falls Dichondra in also in the back of the planter that you cant see from this angle.

So you guys… there’s these. @GMan you said you were interested in a source. They are “special”
And a bargain at that! $2.50 for 200 seeds

That’s funny! My yard is Bermuda grass. I fret and water that shit daily to keep it looking nice. Too hot and not enough rain makes it hard.

Blessings…

@Meesh , I’ll take bermuda grass over feral pigs…how 'bout you?

The :pig2: buggers destroy everything in the soil 3’ deep except microbes. :astonished:

Did some much needed surgery on my African Violets today. 2 plants became 6. EEK! I may take 2 with me to my clients office as I have no room in my kitchen window anymore. One of the violets had 4 crowns (big ones at that) all stuck in a tiny 4" pot. The other had 2. They were looking so shabby, way overdue for separation. Any flowers they have now will die, I could have cut them off, but didn’t bother. They can do it themselves. I have about 500 bucks worth of accounting software I need to buy for 2021, so most of my purchases are on hold, but I will be ordering some wicking jars for the violets here soon. They are reported to love them.

The key to African Violets is perfect bright filtered light. If they won’t flower, they must be moved. Mine pretty much flower monthly. I feed them every watering with jobes violet food half strength every watering. They are in straight promix however, they really like the mix with vermiculite added, but I have yet to find any at the nurseries.

I spy daffodil bulbs coming through and a few crocuses. The crocuses never flower. I don’t think it gets cold enough, but I keep trying. lol My freesia is a never fail though, lots of it has come up and is vegging quite nicely as well.

One of the silver falls dichondra in my new wheelbarrow planter isn’t doing very well though. Not sure why. The other one is doing great. Maybe I got a bad starter at Home Depot. Oh well.

Umm… I may have a plant addiction. The kitchen has been taken over

I either need an intervention or a friend to unload half of these violets on, since I can’t bring myself to kill them and they are multiplying like bunnies.

So, I ordered some self watering aka wicking planters for the African Violets last night. I did a youtube search to make them myself, but got frustrated when every video I watched failed to mention what size hydro pot fit inside mason jars lol. I’m not making frivolous trips to the grow store right now because of covid and ordering online so I don’t have the patience to return stuff if it’s the wrong size. By the time I would have ordered all the components it pretty much would have come to about the same price anyway. The ones I ordered were simple and white and will look good in my kitchen. So there we have it. They hate any water on their leaves, so this should really make them happy with the wicking system.

@BarefootAndBlazed if you throw the violet in a self-watering pot and stick it in your veg tent, you will get like 4 times the amount of blooms. If you want to cheat, then pull it out to look pretty in your sun room when it forms flowers. lol In the right window it still will get pretty blooms though.

put out a nice little sycamore volunteer by the curb once…was gone before sunset.

If it had an hour of shade I bet it would be gone first. or is it cold these days?

I never post from my phone, so bear with me.

Transplanted all of my African Violets into the new wicking pots. Also, got new violet soil mix. They are doing great hydroponically and I barely even have to water them now.

My succulents like me when I LITFA

Looky what the rain brought me! In the winter no less

I think another opened today too. Lots of other random bulbs coming up all over. Can’t remember what they are though. I’ll let you know when they flower

I also sowed an entire baggie of heirloom poppies “Shirley” all over the back yard that @cannabissequoia sent me along with a cool new watering wand for xmas. I threw them all out there the day before the rain, so I’m hoping I get a mini poppy field back behind the garage where I cut down all those trees. I can’t really plant anything deep with all the tree roots still dying and retracting figured I’d try for a little meadow back there instead of the hated bermuda grass. lol It will be so bitchen if they all come up! I looked up this poppy variety, they are right up my alley, shades of pinks and reds. These however are not a felony if I’m caught cutting at them. I put those near the green onions and volunteer weed plants. lol

Holy IVY!!! Awesome spill! Mmm… you gonna roast those seeds? I’ve given up on mammoths, a real pain to stake them and then the wild parrots come and eat all my seeds. lol
