Welcome to Meesh's Garden

Yay! Since I turned the veggie patch into the cannabis patch, I’ll need to buy a raised bed if I want to grow veggies. I miss the taste of the sweet cherry tomatoes I grew a few years back. Volunteers from them still pop up!

Some of these are from tomatoes I have grown before. The Cherokee Purple I had saved seed from and hope to save some from the best Beefsteak and Roma plants this year. Had some Black Crimm but cannot find them.

Cantaloupes will stall outside until it is scorching hot. When you plant them, just be sure they won’t get shaded out by larger plants. The tomatoes mostly shaded mine and I only got 2 cantaloupes. Oh and like tomatoes they are heavy feeders and love lots of cal/mag if you didnt already know.

Did a second till of a patch of grass and weeds behind the garage where I cut down all the trees. I threw a bunch of poppy seeds down in the fall and they didn’t come up. I am going to attempt to throw wildflower seeds now and see if I can get a little wildflower field.

Those cosmos will take off like wildfire! I planted them once and now I get volunteers literally everywhere all year. Deadhead them and they will keep blooming! :cherry_blossom::seedling::green_heart:

We’ve had a lot of turnover with members since I started my garden, but those of you who have been with me since I first started tearing up my backyard and rejuvenating the soil, know how much I love the more unique and less grown flowers. Having said this, I have finally germed my first 2 Amaranthus seeds also called Love Lies Bleeding. This is my 3rd year trying to germ seeds that are supposed to be directly sown and are supposed to be the easiest seeds to germ. Ha! Well, I have had nothing but bad luck from coated seeds and I cant find the Amaranthus any other way. This year I germed them inside and they came up quick. If you’ve never heard of this annual, it’s actually a grain and can be harvested and eaten, but I have no interest in that. What interests me is the super bright long cascade of dark red flowers that bloom from it. If you haven’t seen it, do a quick google image search or wait for mine… fingers crossed. They are bitchen! Ive only seen them in a formal garden here once. Really hoping they make it through transplant etc… I’m only starting a few “new” flowers this year. Gazania, verbena, dwarf sunflowers again the amaranthus and a couple perennials that wont be interesting until next year. I killed my white lavender I started a few years back, it got shaded out as I had it in the wrong spot. However, I did see it flower once before I killed it. So, I’m trying to germ it again. Lavender is one bitch of a seed and can take like a month to germ. After growing the Lacy Frills (the white one) and the english I have out there now from seed, I just bought the french lavender I have as a starter. So much easier, the white one however, you won’t find so here I try again. Also, having a bitch of a time with the Rock Soapwort it’s like a cascading ground cover of small pink flowers that I have a long term plan for. Growing perennials from seed is pretty tough, I remember how many times it took to get my shasta daisy plants. Holy crap, I even bought bare roots and tried those twice I think and my seedlings would croak that I germ. I believe the established ones out there now finally came from seeds.

EDIT- Sowed all the wildflower seeds 4/10/21 Fingers crossed for a summer wildflower field behind the garage.

Hey Meesh, the yard is looking great… Very green. We’re actually getting grass coming up everywhere this year from all of the snow. Last year it tried and then died and the whole county stayed brown.

My Apricot trees are blooming, and the lilac bushes are about to start blooming. They all may stall out as its gonna be right near freezing at night for almost a week. Man, I hope they make it. They’re fairly old I guess and about 6-7 feet tall and about about 20-30 feet of them. They smell up the whole yard. I have to get a new camera this year. We’ll see what I come up with. Not sure past weed so far. I’ve had a few herbs and tomatoes going inside all winter. I hope to get some other stuff planted. peace

I will def need pics if those lilacs bloom! Wish I had smell-o-vision. I think I would lose my mind with 20 feet of them! Lilacs and sweet peas are my absolute favorite flowers! That genetically modified Lilac bush for my zone is about 3 feet high now. Took 3 years from a tiny twig, but I doubt it’s anywhere near old enough to bloom yet. Hope I live long enough to see it flower! It is still my prized plant out there and it is the most uneventful one, looks very unremarkable too. Just leaves, but I know it’s got a special magic that will one day reveal its splendor to the world. :joy: It is a serious test of patience and endurance though.

Maybe I could try and send some small shoots. They want to spread outside the fence and little plants seem to be plentiful. I’m not sure if I could get anything out that would grow or not, I’ll check. They may just be shoots from the main root system.

They may start blooming tomorrow or the next day. Warm tomorrow, cooler the next day then about 5-6 days with cold nights so we’ll see.

I appreciate it, but they won’t grow here. The one I have is modified and needs low chill hours. It just doesn’t get cold enough for 95% of lilac varieties here. Sucks!

We all flower garden vicariously through Meesh!

Nice Bush @gramps. That’s different than mine. Mine are sort of tall. It’s gonna be close. Got down to the high 20’s last night but It doesn’t look like it lasted long enough. I don’t think any damage was done last night. We have nights right around freezing for the week ahead, but we’ve been warm the last week. Everything is trying to start but most haven’t fully begun. I think they know, lol…

Your’s is a darker purple. Mine are the pale purple but boy do they smell good.

@gramps the California lilacs are beautiful they just don’t have that heavenly scent of the regular varieties. I’m all about the fragrance.

Thank you! I believe this is my second or third thread of my regular garden. I started with a big mess and messed up soil. Growing cannabis and inspiration from members here spurred me to dig up the whole back yard, rejuvenate all the soil back there and start my garden. It is still a work in progress now 3 years later, but it has become my passion and I’m so happy about the results so far. I am obsessed with growing flowers along with my cannabis. Thanks for visiting and hanging out in my garden!

Here is my lilac bush today. About 3 years old. It was one tiny 6 inch twig when I got it. I have some bells of Ireland growing next to it. Annuals so as it keeps growing it can just crowd them out and eventually be the star of the show in this planter. Eventually when it does bloom the flowers will be white.
