For real folksā¦not much of a selection from small town grocery store but it will doā¦Not gonna travel 70 miles round trip to a bigger town just to get Strawberry ice cream.
Last night we had takeout. Overall, Mrs. mota and I thought it was extremely meh. We wonāt be ordering from them again.
Majadra plate with cauliflower and fried onions
Cheese-stuffed falafel - great idea, we just didnāt care for it
Sirloin lamb mezza
Fried Brussels sprouts & delicata squash and pomegranate seeds
Sauces - schug (green), amba (pickled mango)(yellow) and tahini (tan)
Chocolate raspberry rugelach
Date cookie
The instructions were perhaps the best part of the entire meal!
I Artichoke you all out later!
ooooh!
Canāt really get those around this backwater area-- lucky to find the peas!
Still-- a nice combo! Sweet, salty, spicy , crunchy, creamyā you covered all the bases!
I SOOO need a Dutch Ovenā¦
They are an excellent and versatile kitchen tool!
My Mom always had oneā¦I never have, and miss cooking with oneā¦
Um, I, wellā¦ Ok I just canāt say it, too easyā¦
They are great but I prefer this kind of dutch oven because I do a lot of outdoor cooking/bakingā¦This will work on your stove top or be used outside w/charcoals on top/bottomā¦btw, I have the Ozark dutch oven, nothing fancy folks.
Btw, 3 yrs. ago that same Ozark brand only cost me under $15 at Walmart, in the outdoor camping dept. They have others in the houseware dept. but they are more expensive.
Hard to beat cooking outside. Just something about it feels right.
This was a few moments ago.
Mine (L) Lemon Cream Pie - vanilla cream cake, graham cracker crust, house made lemon curd, whipped cream frosting
Mrs. mota (R ) Cookies nā Cream - chocolate cake with an Oreo cookie crust topped with Oreo blended buttercream, garnished with an Oreo cookie
OMFG, we were both like chewing the paper wrappers! Those are criminally good!
My wife makes killer zhug (and constantly corrects my terrible pronunciation of the same). I hate to let any of it go to waste so I end up eating on bagels with cream cheese, etc.
Maybe Iām wrong but I feel like some of those dishes must suffer from being takeout?
Happy National Fig Newtons Day folksā¦I havenāt had fig newtons since Iāve had fig trees, 20+yrs agoā¦but we do make our own and we call it fig bars.
Thatās an interesting question you pose, @yardgrazer, and one I donāt feel qualified to answer. This was the first time I had had either of the sauces (zhug or amba), so I donāt know what they āshouldā taste like. Iām not confident the quality of the product is diminished simply because itās takeout.
Mrs. mota and I talked about our meal and agreed that each item seemed to be properly cooked and seasoned. Nothing was raw/under cooked, overcooked or tasteless/unseasoned. Veggies all were al dente, with nice tooth. It was really about the flavor profile, we agreed.
Thankfully, we have lots of choices as we live in an urban area known for itās restaurants.
