i have to keep plants in small pot in veg for a long time due to space. I got some felt off amazon and made up some fabric pots of dif sizes 1/4,1/2,1 and 2 gallon. iā€™ll up pot to the 1 or 2 when i feel the soil is getting depleted. ive been holding them in the 1 and 2 gl untill I can flower, normally in a 3-7 gallon. ive been surprised at how long you can keep them going in these lil ass pots lol.

I have kept moms in a 3 gal for a year or so. Then replace them. It works. They also have gotten to be three feet wide and 6 feet tall in them.

I sow seed in soil in a Solo cup. At 2 weeks old Iā€™ll take a snippet of leaf and send to the lab to test sex. Any girls get transplanted into a 6 gallon Octopot where they will live the rest of their days.

I root cuttings in an EZclone. They then go directly into Octopots.

Before I switched to Octopots I used 3 gallon fabric pots. I still keep moms in those. My average yield doubled from 3oz to 6oz per plant when I moved to the Octos. Iā€™m lazy and donā€™t like watering every day. The Octopot has a 6 gallon reservoir below the 6 gallons of soil. I have no problem going out of town for multiple days, even in deep flower. Smaller containers can work just fine for the plants but youā€™ll spend a lot of time tending them.

Hehe look at the size of that wall flower in the corner on the left in that tiny pot.Like a watermelon stuck on a pencil in a Dixie cup.

How about putting them from solo cup to final container !! simple and easy - THEN hit it will a good root stimulator (Azros +Myco products, ect) daily for 1 week _ here is a excellent product called ā€œMicrobial MASSā€ using this in Veg and Flower has really improved the plant (size<buds, ect) this was given to me at a local growl store - believe it is expensive

what you are growing in is also going to have an influence on how long the plant can remain healthy. Coco seems to be the clear winner when it comes to plant growth in small containers.
In soilless mix (i run sunshine#4) I start my seeds in paper towels and as soon as they show a tail they go into starter pots. I have small round ones and 4" square ones. The smaller ones are about 1/2 the size of a solo cup. I have even smaller ones I use if I need to when I pop large numbers. either way, at the second set of true leaves they go to what the industry calls a one gallon and Iā€™ll take them to about 8 weeks in those before they start to stress or start to go rootbound.
From there I got to either a 2 gallon for more veg time or to thier final pots which indoors would be a #5T or #7T. Give em a couple or so weeks to settle in and then flip em.

Royal gold kings mix

I use a similar method here. 3.5" pot to Solo to 6x6x7 until sexed. I move to the Solo after it has at least 1 set of true leaves.

Hey bro, donā€™t take this the wrong way but that ice cube tray really does not work very well. It is not deep enough for a weed seed and the root will hit bottom fast but there wonā€™t be a cohesive root ball to move them. They could stunt or die or go into shock. You would be better off to just plant in a solo than that tray.

A seedling tray would be easier and way more effective thier almost as cheap as an ice cube tray and way more room. You could start hundredā€™s of seeds in one whack if you wanted to and itā€™s cheaper than buying all those separate pots to start and sift the best ones out and either give out or kill the rest.Just take a spoon and scoop them out I do this all the time just fill the tray with plain non nute soil mix and go sharecropper I try to do at least 50 beans at a whack if I have the numbers works out pretty good

Could always pay $10 to get your plants sexed as to no waist time / soil etc

Ok so after i read a few comments i did not go with the ice cube tray that i had laying around and i planted the seeds that sprouted a taproot in some one gallon fabric pots since i dont have any solo cups on hand. Thanks everyone

Is there a how to i can watch on this? And what lab would i send it to?

Iā€™ve only used Farmer Freeman, but there are other companies that offer the same lab services. The first few minutes of this clip show the process. I send a leaf cutting - never messed with the smash cardsā€¦

There are a number of Octopot grow logs on this site you can peruse. Here is a basic video from the manufacturer

Hey buddy. We talked about this before. Iā€™ve been using solos to those 5"squares. I can get pretty big vegging in those sqā€™s if necessary. I go from those to 2s, 3s, or 5s. Depends if Iā€™m vegging them more. Plastic. Been eyeballing my 3 and 5 gallon fabric pots. @shag Iā€™m pretty sure you were along when we chatted about not just sizes and kinds. Thereā€™s that crap with actual gallons, litres, pot #s. 2, 3. I want to feed and water as close as I can, right @SHSC-1 ? Iā€™ve been going with a 6 to 1 ratio with decent success. I will flush to run-off during the grow if I need to.

Guys one more rookie question. What % should my new 400w led be on for the seeds that are popping? I have it on 7% dimmed. Let me know thanks

I keep mine on about 5-10% and a few feet away, maybe 3

I would just watch your seedlings. If they start to stretch, turn it up a bit and continue until they stop stretching
