Usually i start in a 3gallon fab pot and transplant to a 5 gal fab pot for flower.
im about to plant 10 seeds so i am trying to be resourceful and if i could get by veg in a smaller pot i would like to.
How about you?

I’m usually in something small, like a quart or two. But before that, it’s a peat pellet. Then, when roots are coming out the bottom, transplant into it’s final pot 10+ gallons.
You don’t need the large pot though. You can grow into the container size but could limit the oversize of the plant.
I prefer to grow larger plants, which will have more/larger colas et al.
No reason you can’t veg in smaller pots. These, for example, are all in 0.8 gallon pots. Just got to keep up with the watering. You can see the one on the left is pretty large there in the 5x5 tent.
I have dont have any pellets or cubes of any sort and these will be germing for 72hrs as of tomorrow so i have to throw them in the dirt. Trying to be resourceful and not put out 8 3 gallons because i know some will be males or even possibly herms (bagseed) i guess im asking how small of a pot can i veg in without running out of root space in the next 2 months
Wow that makes me feel better about starting them out in the 1 gal veg pots
Those moms @DougDawson ?
Honestly you can get by with solo cups as long as you keep up with Fertigation a few times a day. I prefer 1 gallons for Veg personally but I’ve used much smaller for even longer tbch
3 moms, 3 dads. That one big plant was vegged since last year. It was the only BMR that grew out of 3 packs. I kept it going all through my Blue Kush run and then put it with the BMR on my next run. Was quite the beast for such a small pot.
Definitely is for less than a gallon, nicely done brother
For a little perspective, I used the same 0.8 gallon pots all the way through Flower with my BOG Blue Kush run. I am running in coco. So from seedling bags into these less than gallon pots and straight through flower. Vegging for a couple months should not cause you any issues.
So i can grow the plant out to size in a small pot? I dont have any experience and ive been wasting a lot of material since i didnt know that.
Sweet so the only real difference between a small and large pot is how often i have to water it? As long as i catch it when its light/dry and water everything is pretty much the same? I can flip in the same size pot as long as i keep up on a watering schedule? Or should i transplant when flip and if so to what size from a one gal?
Well those plants didn’t get up potted so yes, you can grow right to the end. When I do bud runs I like to move to 3 or 5 gallon for bigger plants and let them veg longer. But yes, you can do the whole run as long as you keep up watering under the right circumstances. Much depends on how big you want to go. What medium are you using?
I start seeds in soil in starter trays. once the sprout is like 3 inches tall I transfer them into solo cups . They remain there for like 2.5 to 3 weeks depending on their growth rate.I’ll transfer them to 5 x 5 x 7 inch pots ( approximately 3/4 of a gallon ) and they’ll stay there till they sex
I use the same size pot to keeps moms . You just need to prune the roots from time to time
Once sex is determined I’ll take clones an transfer them into 6 or a 3 gallon octopot m
Paps
I would like to get pretty large plants. I have could go 5ft max. But i dont want to waste soil on 3 gal pots for the ones that are male so ill throw them all in one gal pots for now. Until they show their sex, then maybe go to a 3 gal depending on what their size is.
What size plants do you expect when you transplant to the 3 gals? Im a super rookie and right now i have some pretty small plants for a 5 gal pot (on another thread of mine billys unicorn week 6)
Thanks! I always have a hard time determining sex so i end up yanking in early flower when things are a little more clear. Now that i actually have a fine group of people to ask for advice i am trying to refine things a bit and not waste as much material. I would like to veg them all in the smallest pot possible until they reveal sex then transplant to a 3 gal pot and see how much more efficient it is then me running a 5 and not using it to its full potential.
Thanks everyone for pointing me in the right direction!
3 gals will produce your typical size plant 3-4 ft with big beautiful buds, if you wanna go 5ft plus I’d suggest 4-5s but honestly you can grow big plants with plenty of bud in a 3 all day long. I like your plan of starting in 1’s and uppotting after sexing etc to your pot of choice
Well last harvest i had 3 7 gals in a 2x4 plants were maybe 2-3ft tall🤦🏻‍♂️ that was such a waste but hey it got me learnin🤷🏻‍♂️
