I like all trees.
Cannabis trees are pretty cool though.
Oh, and the Monkey Tail tree.
I have everything from the Japanese Maple to the Mighty Oak. Mine are at least 80 years old. In between is at least 8/10 acres of every kind of pine. From blue spruce to the Scotch/Jack Pines.
The whole 12 acres were planted way back when the Gov planted seedling on land that wasn’t very good for farming…
because palms are not trees
“Palms, like all other monocots, are more closely related to grass than trees.”
Learn something new every day…
I love all the trees!
I recently spent about a year in the Arkansas Ozarks and was mesmerized by all the different trees.
But my life was missing the wood smoke smell and look of our Alaska Paper Birch.
This is home
I also enjoy the old growth temperate rainforests of the north Pacific coast.
Western Cedars
Hemlock and Sitka Spruce
Close enough to call palm trees.
Hahaha. That’s a funny name .
Dawn Redwood.
I have a bonsai and visit the ones in my city (that I know of) once a year.
I have 2 in my yard and one started flowering and producing last year!
Only issue: wildlife got to them first!
Lucky critters! Those fruit, along with lightning bugs, are the stuff of magic. Last time I had some was in a Paw Paw ale from Ohio at GABF.
I am lucky enough to live in an area of southern Ontario?
A area that has a type of forest that far north of North/ South Carolinas.
It has a type of forest called a Carolinian Forest? It has the same type of trees you would only see further south.
And ones you would see this far north as well.
It also has a lot of insects from that far south as well.
I grew up in that forest and they claim that the lumber harvested from it is some of the best in the world?
Not sure about that? But many large sawmills around here export hardwood lumber all over the globe.
So my favourite tree would be?
Poplar trees, get absolutely massive here on protected lands close to rivers and the like.
They say Poplars are the tallest trees here? And I think they are correct! The lumber is stable and some pieces are nice. But mostly paint grade.
My number two tree would be White Pine?
The tree of my Province, Ontario.
Many of those trees in Canada.
Those f’ers are so damned invasive. If I get lazy enough they’ll try to move into the house.
I have some red pine, lots of white and black spruce, aspen, paper birch, burr oak, red maple, and sugar maple. The sugar maple are my favorite.
Shit I know where you are! Nice!!
Great line! Can I use it?
I know as far as Maple goes the lumber from northern states is much tighter grained because it grows slower than the ones found in the Southern forests.
Sounds like where I live but we are too cold for Oaks and Maples.
Our Black Spruce grow in the Muskeg and a 15 footer might be 200 years old.
Too cold for Maple or Oak!? Oof, I might take a hard pass.
