Where would you start with a test breeding project?

For some reason I like fluffy bud at times. It’s very satisfying to crumble and some it I’ve grown has been really good.

You’ve just listed pretty much everything in the weed world :joy:

I agree with MrSparkle.

If it were me (and I don’t know how much space you have) I would pop as many seeds of as many different strains as you have room for and go to town. You should figure out what you like first. You’ll find something believe me. Then you can really go to town.

If you’re really ambitious build a male jail, collect pollen, and hit a few buds. Just for practice. I use the qtip method.

Keeping your plants relatively small is probably in line with these goals.

You have a nice list of strains and I’m sure you’ll find something you like.

Best of luck.

Edit - and don’t forget to label everything.

I have an empty 5x5 and I can pop a bunch of beans at a time easily.

I will have male jail, but can I keep multiple males together?

Yes you can

Yes you can.

I do it in a room with no exhaust, no air circulation, 30’ from my females.

Putting them on their sides over newspaper works for me.

Plan is to keep them in clone them, then start flower for all the best clones and cull the best males down to one. Is that a good start?

I’ll cull early for root growth and vigor, correct?

That is how I would go about that. :+1: :+1: :+1:

How many days am I looking at for viable pollen?

That will vary on the strain and if it is a auto or a photo.

2-3 weeks from flip. Segregate the males when you see pollen sacks getting ready to burst. They start off green and then get more yellow when they are ready. Keep your eyes open and you’ll see it.

Just make sure you get them out before they pop

Low risk of pollination before they burst?

very low risk

Correct. Also nothing wrong with putting them in jail as soon as you see they are male. It just means your jail will be active longer which is no big deal.

You are talking about a lot of space. Flower tent, clone tent, jail space. It adds up.

Can I skip jail and farm pollen instead, or do they need to mature to the point of naturally opening? Or timing it and moving the male clones outside to finish and then farm? Any risk in that?

Pollen needs time to mature.

What do you mean by farm pollen?

Collect? :joy:

We farm seeds, we farm weed, we collect pollen? Take it easy on the noob! :joy:

You’ll have a tough time doing it outside with wind and light cycle and such. It could probably work with the bag method.

Last time I did this I had two different males and the jail kept the pollen separate so I knew what was being hit with what.

With my setup what I’d do is find two males that look vigorous, put them in jail to collect pollen and then brush that pollen onto a branch of each of the females. You’ll end up with a shitload of different crosses as well as F2s (or whatever they are).

You’ll have a ton of variety that way.
