So battle of the aphids. I ripped out all of the nasturtiums and sprayed down the OG kush, the ground around it plus the gdp and UFS cuz they are in the same row. Made sure to spray the trellises as well for when those bastards want to make a run for it. All I had was tea tree oil castille soap. Hope itā€™s okay, itā€™s what I use to bathe my dog. lol Now, Iā€™m a person that wonā€™t even kill ants in my house, but let a bug touch one of my plants, I turn into a homicidal maniac. Should have had candid camera out thereā€¦ Me while laughing maniacally ā€œDie Mother Fu**ers! Die!ā€

The strange part is 15 minutes later, 10 ladybugs flew in right on the plant to clean up the carcasses. I suppose tmw I will blast them all again with clean water, get the soap off. Hopefully my problem will be solved. If not Iā€™ll go back at em with round 2. I suppose I should stop on my way home from my clients tmw for more Dr. Bronners soap. I usually use mint or lavender out there. Hope tea tree oil doesnā€™t jack up anything but the aphids.

My son and I reenacted that scene in our back yard the last time our printer died, and I gotta say: it felt real damned good. Cathartic. Hated that fucking printer.

They have those rage rooms now, where theyā€™ll outfit you in protective gear and let you go to town smashing stuff. It sounds AWESOME! When the covid is no longer plaguing us itā€™s on my bucket list.

Oh hell yeah. Sign me up! Iā€™m usually pretty reserved, but I could use some of that right now.

I believe the larva actually eat more than the adults do. Many people actually use nasturtium to draw aphids away from the plants they donā€™t want them on. I hope that ripping them out doesnā€™t exacerbate the issue.

Well, the nasturtiums were growing right under the plant and they were infested. I think they actually attracted them. Itā€™s looking a lot better out there today. Lady bugs are on it and Iā€™d say Iā€™m down to half the aphids it had before. Iā€™m gonna spray the shit out of it again with the hose today, then all of the plants have a BT spray today. I donā€™t think bt kills them though, so Iā€™ll have to do another soapy water spray this weekend. Iā€™m trying to hurry as 4 plants have started budding out there now. Donā€™t want any aphids dead or alive getting stuck in my bud.

As of today the GDP is in flower

Looks like spinosad kills them. Iā€™ll hit them with that instead of soap this weekend as after looking it up BT will just kill my caterpillars and larvae. Now that a few plants are budding, I canā€™t screw around and miss any BT sprays like I did last week. They love to wait until the bud is stinky and juicy before the dive in. Gotta keep making sure it kills any larvae that may hatch. So far, the aphids on the one plant have been the only real problem Iā€™ve seen on any of them. I do know those damn pillars are out there though as they love to munch my petunias and I have holes in them. I have sprayed them, but havenā€™t been as diligent spraying my regular flowers, guess I should get back to that too as I donā€™t want them migrating over to my bud.

Do any of you gardeners in places besides Cali have such an issue with caterpillars outside? Iā€™d rather fight aphids quite frankly. The pillars are motherfu**ers and beyond prolific here. Mostly from stupid little brown moths.

Just another tidbit about Spinosad.if you guys didnā€™t know, it harms bees. It is one of 2 organic pesticides I use and quite frankly I find it to be really effective and itā€™s safe for pets and humans. However, itā€™s best not to do a broad spray with this one. Stick to only the infested plants or say just a preventive on your cannabis. Try not to spray on regular flowers and plants in your garden that bees frequent, Please.

These things arenā€™t important to everyone, but many folks like me really donā€™t want to harm them if we can help it. Hope this is useful info.

We had a swarm this year, and we were on it asap to find someone that could come get them. I would rather have them in a hive, then off to who knows where. He said alot of people spray them :triumph: Saving the bees is something we should all be on board with.

Iā€™ve never seen a swarm dealt with, but if you have a hive the bee people just get the Queen out. Without the Queen all of the drones die and rather quickly. Itā€™s bizarre. Not sure how to get rid of them without certain death to them, quite frankly. However, I would have to kill them if a whole damn swarm came. Between them or me and it will be me who lives, but I do my best to keep them alive. These days I donā€™t even get rid of the wasps nests cuz they kill stuff on my cannabis. Once the cannabis is gone for the season, the wasps nests get knocked down as they kind of scare the shit out of me. lol

Those fuckers just keep coming back all the time! Maybe try sticky traps or sticky buckets! Lol Iā€™m going to spray EWC see if that keeps them away for awhile

Aphids? Usually they prefer my rose bushes and donā€™t swarm my other plants. Weird part is I have red aphids on the front planter rose bushes and black aphids in the back on the OG Kush. Itā€™s looking really good today after yesterdays soapy blast and today I just blasted them with water. They seem to be dwindling and should be gone by monday. Funny, I donā€™t even spray the rose bushes. Sometimes a flower will come out deformed, but usually they just go away by themselves depending on the weather. I believe the biggest trick is to blast them away before they get the flying ones. Those form more colonies of aphids. Last year I didnā€™t have a single problem with them. I know the nasturtiums attracted them from somewhere. Usually they are spread out enough for the beneficials to keep them in check.
