My garden is full of all kinds of bees and wasps the only type that are a problem are those little meat bees biting stinging little bastards . They live in hives / nest in the ground and will attack if disturbed . My aphids are green they crawl up the stalks and hide under the leaf .
Knock on wood to this day I have never been stung by a wasp or bee. My biggest problem was 2 ER trips last year from Black Widow bites. Nasty painful suckers. I have a pest company spray my garage and the perimeter of the house now. It seems to help even though the organic I make them use is less effective. This year, so far so good! No spider bites!
Iām Sure you have a local bee keeper that would be more than happy to come get them. It doesnāt have to be certain death for the bees.
Probably, just never needed to eradicate any. Iām always trying to attract them instead. I grow a lot of flowers.
The largest quantities of wasp and bees Iāve ever had in the garden came for sunflowers. Not my mammoths but a more delicate variety called Italian Whites. They all loved those flowers!
I think I have a good supply of these around here their larvae are good aphid eaters Hoverflies - Google Search
They love sunflowers and squash and my weed has all kinds of wasps after they start budding a stoned honey bee once in awhile they just sit there not moving much . And we have a lot of Black Widows in the barn . When I see them I spray with WD 40 but I think the formula has changed its not working as fast . Knock on wood I have never been bitten they look like black olives with legs . I always wear gloves when digging in my junk piles . We also have rattle snakes that like to lay under my weed thatās why I trim the bottoms and take a stick or water to anything we pick . I give them a chance to run before I use the shovel . We have had Horses / Dogs / and cats bitten by Rattlers I kill a couple a year we been on this place over 40 years a lot of snakes .
My bro in law almost stepped on a copperhead when we were getting the goat pen garden started. I had a shovel and tried to find it, but I didnāt have any luck. Same day I caught a black rat snake in his chicken coop and walked it down the road (saved its life).
I hate snakes that I walk up on and surprise the shit out of me been real close a couple of times getting hit by rattlers! One time I was under a shade tree on the outskirts of town waiting for a friend that was mowing I was propped up against a tree on my bike with feet on my pedals had been there for 5-10minutes or so finally looked down right under my foot was a 5-6 footer that had 12 Beads on him I freaked out his dad rode up to the house in the rider and came back with a 12 gauge and made hamburger out of it ! The other was geocaching must of walked right over it going for the cache put the container back and I heard a buzzing didnāt move and it ended up being less than foot away. Yikes!
was 16 and fishing from the bank with my Uncle. We had been there a bit. I was sitting on a flat stump the sun was beating down. Still and it was early and coolā¦ He looked at me said ājust slide easy off that stump and letās find another fishing spot. Theresā a moccasin right thereāā¦pointing between my legs at a hole between a couple roots. I still get chills thinking about itā¦I could see the coils and he was as big around as my arm
We were limb lining in a small stream. My son was young then and hanging out with us. I eased the boat up to check a line, and the branch right above my son had a snake sunning on it. Glad my wife has good eyes, and the boat has good reverse. It was just a water snake, but still freaked us out.
I hear ya Iāll never forget my experience!
Few summers ago son and I was fishing at a local hole it was getting close to dusk he was in a float tube I was in chest wanders fly fishing and all of a sudden blood curdling stream came from him ,thought that a fish or something may have Nipped his leg I do a 180 real quick and theirs this 6-7 foot bull snake in the water 10ā away his head came off the water 8-10 inches just like a little periscope I deterred him the best I could with my 10ā fly rod but he was still coming and about 4ā left he did a right angle needlessly to say that was it for the rest of the day fishing! Lol
Billsnakea are cool though man. They help keep rattlesnakes away.
I donāt like snakes. I donāt like cats. I detest rats and mice. I have cats. I try to let all snakes live.
did you go straight up the tree? what I would have.
Jumped off and away as best as I could, it didnāt alarm at all it was like it was taking a nap . It was a good 7-8 diameter ball coil in taller grass
When Ms @Meesh wakes up sheās gonna be shakin her headā¦
yeah snakes are creepy
Oh hell No to snakes! Iām with @Badger No snakes, rats, mice or anything with creepy rat like tails! I love cats though, even if they are kinda evil. lol
So, it feels like itās 90 outside today, all the plants except the cannabis are wilting. I have to get out there and water, but a 5 min walk around the garden in the heat had me scrambling back into the house. Opened the weather app and it said it was 78, I was like no way this has to be wrong. Then I saw the real feel temp at 88. Apparently, the UV index is at 10, so even at 78 the sun is scorching the earth. This means Iām gonna sizzle like bacon watering today. My man is insane, he just showed up to bronze out there. Iām gonna bust out my big floppy hat to water and Iāll still fry.
Anyway, a quick assessment showed very few aphids left on the OG Kush. Whatās left of them are in the major crevices where the bunches of tender new leaf grow at the ends. That hasnāt changed. I donāt know if they are dead or alive at this point. Iām gonna blast it again with the hose today, once I get myself mentally prepared for that. lol
Unofficial 98 right now the official from the national weather service is 90 but thatās two thousand feet farther up the mountain at 4600 hundred feet . Itās fricken Hot I watered early might need to hit the garden again .
Wear a hat! It saved me today!
