thanks for saying so Rasta. im still getting my feet under me with the sips. i think im swimming against the current with sips with only 4 or 5 gal. of soil. something tells me id do better if they were 10. still im determined to make a way with these. maybe go synthetic ferts next time.

thank you my friend. i appreciate you helping to keep some life in here. im previously a hydroponics guy. dirt always seemed…dirty.
starting with hydro made me prioritize a squared away tent. :circus_tent:

Apologies if I missed it earlier in the thread: What made you switch from hydro to the SIPs?

Well C I did pretty well with hydro…rdwc and the whole 9 yards… but i noticed more people were doing soil or coco. I also realized that just because i could mix a solution to the ppm and ph that the bottle said to, i was just painting by the numbers. Mix more, mix less, fix the ph…
Now im all organic, basically to see if i could do it.
Figured if you cant grow in dirt can you really grow weed?

Fair enough! Some would say that SIPs are paint by numbers for soil though. I feel like I’m all set with my hydro that I can go a week+ without touching and if it can get me high, I grew weed  but to each their own!

I have such a backlog of projects across so many realms, I am probably going to fine-tune my system but not completely change it (barring some major event to prompt it). I admire your willingness to challenge yourself!

Its proving to be a real learning curve. I tried with the soil method that looked kinda like hydro. I know about reservoirs.
I like the fastidious tinkering and plumbing involved with a hydro system. Makes you feel like the master of your domain. These soil plants seem to do whatever the faq they feel like.
Your setup looks great. Ill go back to hydro when im not noob at this anymore. I used to leave for 2 weeks at a time mid grow no problems.

Didnt mean to offend holmes. Hydro is legit. I just wanted to make sure i wasn’t a 1 trick pony

I appreciate the follow-up! No offense taken, and none intended with my comment about SIPs! I meant it about admiring your willingness to challenge yourself. I am like “nah fuck that, just one system is challenge enough when it comes to growing, I will find other non-growing challenges”

I’m just always curious about what prompts changes. Some people have a flood, some people get tired of some aspect of it, etc. It varies for everyone, there are so many approaches to growing this one type of plant, I love it.

Hydro was what was big in 2000 when my mom and me and a buddy decided to try growing. A couple grand in setup money, stick built a whole room with shiny walls(tents were for camping then) and failed miserably with the mexi brick seeds we were trying. Hydro stuck with me after that tho cause i liked the idea of being able to clean and reuse my hydroton in the secrecy of my basement. Prohibition was serious business then and i couldn’t see hauling bags of soil in and out without blowing my spot up.

You might enjoy exploring aquaponics next  since you mentioned liking

I think aquaponics has that, along with some of the organics aspects of soil. @luxton has a nice thread on his, if you haven’t seen it yet you might enjoy

I want to try a soil - aquaponics hybrid myself. Get some fish going, and water my plants with their tank water.
Some day I’ll have a bit more time, energy, and $, and it will happen. I want the tank to be in the wall of the living room, which isn’t far, but will require some small DIY plumbing.

Step 1 is figuring out why organics hates me. Once i consistently have good results ill be more inclined to try things. Aquaponic is cool my family had tropical fish tanks when I was growing up

@luxton i go there for the dog pics. didnt realize he grew pot too

If you want the best results watering from your fish tank, water your plants with the water that comes out when you vacuum the tank, along with any solids :ok_hand: (ideally, throw a really good air stone in the vacuumed water for 24 hours to try and break those solids up):grin:.

When I was getting the warehouse going, that exact water was going to be a product we sold :metal:.

@BudLarfy I only use dog fish… :rofl::rofl::rofl:
