I don’t know his name, but his face rings a bell.
Until recently I always made my own “super soil” and reused it after juicing it up a bit. I reckon I got three or four grows before a complete soil replacement.
Do you reuse your soil for multiple grows? If so do you amend it for each run?
I will reuse my soil in my outside beds, I will also amend those beds in the spring
I love running test and collecting data. Gonna follow along!

Likewise mates, it’ll be very interesting!
I ordered a lux meter, I was going to get a par meter but they were 400 bucks, so I researched around and found a lux reader that was recommended, we can convert lux to par with a bit of math, I’ll post the lux numbers and let the math heads figure it out
Recorrect from last post…
Looks like my wife did not order me a lux meter, she ordered a par meter instead, we found one for around 100 buxs…
Par data updates on the way.
12 inch results are in, so far I’ve only tested center, bout to test edge…
One of them stands out at the 12in mark…
I have tested all lights from 12inch up to 24inch…
I put par reader direct center and then at the edge of spread, or the best I could anyways… edge numbers may be an inch or 2 off but they are all the same locations on all of them.
12 inch center…
SF4000
VS4300
Pl4500
600w hps
Old trusty 600w hps put them in their place on this, but more results to come
Here is results at 12in edge…
SF4000
VS4300
PL4500
Not sure what happened to the pl4500 here, it gets better numbers at the 18in mark
600w hps “took a beating here”
At 18in the SF4000 takes the 600w hps…
This SF4000 is bright but the others show pretty well here against the 600w hps as well…
Seems like 18in is the sweet spot for the PL4500…
The 600w gets embarrassed all around…
It was bright at 12in center but after that she gets smacked around a bit.
Meters are good but the real tests come with the plants lol
The spread on the PL4500 is not as much as I thought it would be, especially with it being a bigger plate
Here is another observation…
The PL4500 runs the hottest “enough so I let them know about it”, you can not touch this light when it’s been running…
The VS4300 runs very cool, hardly much heat and the sf4000 does get warm but you can hold your hand on it, the pl4500 you can not, it will hurt if you do.
Heat in my room isn’t an issue but in tents it might be.
there are a couple of descent apps for an android phone out there
