A Shadey spot to grow, Perpetual organic no till

Sounds like the move from hell Shadey!

Camera in a box? Would have thought you wanted lots of pics of the move. Sounds like a great spot tho I sure wouldn’t want a fixer-upper like that at my stage of life. I can see an apartment in my future or at east a place where I have no yard or maintenance duties.

I was sick for two days spending more time in the bathroom than the chair in the mancave but yesterday felt well enough to do some yardwork. Big windstorm snapped the top of a poplar tree off and it flipped upside down with the butt end almost slamming into the satellite dish but a branch hit the corner of the shop and saved the dish. just climbed up on a ladder and pushed it off then got the chainsaw out. After that went around the yard knocking down a couple dead trees. Was taking down a 40’ poplar in the front woods and it got hung up on a live tree beside it. Couldn’t push it over by hand so held onto the live one and lifted my foot up as high as I could and gave a mighty push. Didn’t budge the tree but something in my lower back popped and I went down on all fours in agony. Didn’t feel too bad after a bit but in a few hours was getting really bad. I took an aspirin and 2ml of some CBD in veg oil I bought for my step-daughter. Really helped a lot so I took another 2ml with my morning coffee and the pain has gone down a lot but I got to move real careful and no picking up heavy stuff at all.

I’m hooped now. Just ordered a new airstone for the dugout and planned on getting the waders on and going out there in my belly boat to attach it to the airline and have better water this winter. Got a new $400 air pump last year but the line blew off so a stone is needed. 12" round one is $130 and $20 for shipping. Only an hour away but would cost more for gas to go get it. If it came in Friday’s mail I’d have been doing that instead of screwing with trees.

Hope you heal up fast so you can settle in before it’s all winter all the time. Getting colder and darker fast here.

:peace:

Wow really glad to hear you’re on the mend. On the plus side your new spot sounds really great. Congrats!

I hope you heal up fast as well buddy, it sucks getting old. I got that pop when I landed on my arse, new it wasn’t good but had to try and carry on. That was what pushed it over the edge.

It was hell, luckily the moving guys were very flexible even though he said, he only had the Thursday slot available. When I first spoke with them I was out of it on weed, cbd oil and wine and a couple of aspirin 3 times a day which took the edge off the pain at night enough to sleep a bit.

I thought he said, he could do the Thursday a week before we had to be out, but he meant the day before we were to leave. When I phoned the night before I thought they were coming to see what time they were arriving, he said, not tomorrow a week tomorrow. I was Ohhh Fuck, that’s not good. I said, I probably was too messed up on the weed and didn’t hear him properly. We chatted and I found put he grows weed and makes his own wine as well. Had a long chat and found we have a lot in common, he lives about 12 clicks from me here. I said, I hope everything fits on the truck, as we will be screwed otherwise, when we finished the conversation.

He phoned me back Saturday night and said, he spoke with the crew and they would come out the next Sunday that way if they couldn’t get it all on, which they couldn’t, they would be back on the Thursday to finish.

They actually came back on the Wednesday luckily as the cleaners came on the Thursday morning, after coming the previous Sunday, and saying your house is still full of stuff, no point in even trying lol. I contacted 6 cleaning companies left messages multiple times, not one called back. Then a friend said try this Korean lady she cleans for my my friend, who owns an apartment block, when people move out.

She was very helpful as well, she brought a crew of 4 and had the house done in 3 hours. She only charged 325$ so I gave her a hundred tip as that was what all the other companies were advertising as a move out deal, it was the least I could do after wasting their time on the Sunday. They did a great job as well even cleaned on top of the kitchen cupboards that no body would see.

The only other people that turned up when they should have was the vent and ducting cleaners. They had to charge double though as we had 2 systems to clean, not just what I thought was 1. That was 1100 bucks ffs, took them 45 minutes. The guy was nice, he did a free sanitizing as he felt sorry for me lol. Found out he lives 4 clicks up the road here as well, he even knew the pervious owner lol.

Not having well water before it’s a bit strange seeing water coming out of the tap a little cloudy and clearing in about 20 seconds. I need to get a test done to see what the mineral content is, I think its got alot of iron in it, but it tastes good though with no chlorine or other crap in it.

Getting dark here around 6 atm, weather has been great, 18 to 20’s C atm for the last week or so and another week of it still to come, but getting some heavy frosts in the mornings. Already had some amazing sun sets to look at from the front windows and decks.

Not much light pollution here and the stars are incredibly bright, I need to dig out my night vision binoculars, that are in the same box as the camera in the storage locker. I might get some game cams for up in the woods to see what’s about, I think you can get Bluetooth ones that live stream to a smart TV or phone.

Can’t see any squatch sign where I have been up there yet, but you never know lol. The hills behind us are called bear hills, and the researchers say, if you have a healthy bear community, you probably have squatche’s in the same area. I saw a trash panda the other night, thought it was a bear it was so big, until it ran across the lawn and I could see it’s tail. It looked about 3ft long in the body with a 2 ft tail and was as tall as a retriever dog. Probably sniffing out all the part empty bags of blood, crab, bone and seaweed meal, I slung out of the workshop on the flower beds, as I found a few mouse nests in some of the drawers in there and didn’t want to attract any more.

Thanks Deeez, every time I look out the window or hobble through the woods, I say to myself, I can’t believe I am this lucky to be here lol.

Just been down in the middle basement, we have a small leak not surprisingly. Saturday it poured with rain, my brook doubled its height, so at least the water didn’t soak down too much to get into the basement.

I am definitely going to try some hydro electric generating with it, it’s only 20 ft from the back of my workshop, I just need some batteries and an inverter or similar to convert DC to AC and I might be able to run some power tools. There looks like a 50 gal oil drum wood stove that has been thrown into some bushes. Probably because its not really safe for using but I was thinking of making something similar to heat the workshop not just as big as that, but if it’s usable I will give it a bash. Thought it might be a still when I first saw it, going to have to get the machete out, to get to it and see for sure. Next job is vacuum all the spiders and webs upstairs in the bedrooms. I lifted a roof hatch in the oldest part of the house, I van see a load of old board games up there from the 50,s I recon. I am too scared to reach in and get one lol.

I need to check if asbestos was used in old plaster, before I start tearing ceilings and walls down.

Yeah brother, that stuff is no joke, I would suggest getting it checked ASAP. It’s not normally a threat unless disturbed but still worth getting looked at.

Treat it as a biohazard until you’re sure it isn’t one.

I already am, I have covered the doorways with 6 mil poly and tuck taped them closed, we don’t need to go upstairs atm.

All the walls downstairs are covered with grooved hardboard to look like paneling. I can re use it in my workshop after I insulate it, instead of drywall.

It’s tick city here, every day for the last 4, I have pulled 2 or 3 ticks of the dog, and every morning I am finding 1 or 2 fat ones that have dropped off her stuffed to the max on the bed. The fuckers are going in the fire. I thought she was down and distressed from the move and staying in different places messing up her routine. The amount of blood she must have lost I am surprised she hasn’t collapsed poor thing.

Usually it’s me they are crawling all over but I have been checking myself daily and nothing yet. It must be this warm weather waking them up, saw a new butterfly and bees yesterday, they have until Tuesday when the Temps drop from 23c to 6c and winter will be arriving fast I think, so I need to find my floor jack and get those winter tires on without escalating the back and sciatica problems :confounded:

What area? I used to live in nine mile river, that place was tick city too

Upper LaHave outside Bridgewater. I saw 2 freshly hatched butterflies and several bees yesterday :frowning: They have been tricked by the weather, probably will not survive past next week now.

All this warm weather has woken the little barstards up, the lady in the pet shop yesterday said everyone is saying the same thing, hardly any ticks through the year until now, but have become like a plague the last 3 weeks.

some pics of the property.

Views from the front yard also from the living room window.

MY Workshop in a mess.

Barn half cleaned out.

Lean to and possible plant nursery.

Left side cleaned and a load of nails removed from the walls. Hve to build a ramp today to get a motor bike in there.

Nearly cleaned out this side, I want to put concrete floors in here first as the wooden floor is gone :frowning:

My brook.

Further up.

Second brook join up, I am going to dam the one going to the right as its completely mine and not a boundary line. Then going to make some hydro electric.

Black Birch tree with some Chaga on it there is another piece higher up twice the size.

More edible fungi, found a load of chantrels the other day going to go and collect some soon, must have been close to 50 of them.

A couple of possible outside grow areas near the brook to save carrying water out to them for 500 odd meters.

I cant believe I own all this I feel so lucky and blessed to be able to walk in my woods and de stress apart from the ticks lol…

That place is amazing, congrats!

I have some fancy pants infused with pyrethrin for hiking, never had a tick in those. I think you can get a concentrate to soak clothes in then they’re good for a bunch of washes?

Cheers man I love it here, no nosey people looking over my shoulder lol.

Sounds like a plan, I can soak my work jeans in safers end all that has pyrethrin in it. Need some flea and tick spray for the dog more than myself really, pulled another 2 off her this morning ffs. She only sat on the grass at the bottom of the deck stairs for 5 minutes yesterday. They must be everywhere :disappointed_relieved:

Great pics, what a beautiful spot you have! All that positive energy and intention appears to have manifested into something special.

Yeah this weather is pretty crazy. I have flowers in the garden with new purple blooms and a lilac bush that’s pushing out new buds.
I have a feeling it will reek havoc next spring on plants and wild life

Wow! That is absolutely amazing! Congratulations! I couldn’t imagine having a property like that. Maybe one day. Right now I’d settle for a double wide on a hill lol

I am still saying my health, happiness, money chant, so is the wife and daughter now as well. When you get multiple people connected in on the same vision the energy becomes squared each time instead of just being a multiple of 3.

When it rains it pours , last week my step mom emailed me, she fell 3 months ago and broke her hip again. She is fixed up OK but with her Parkinson problems she has decided to move out of our house and bye something smaller and closer to her sons from her first marriage.

I have a half share in the house left to me by my dad when he passed. She said, she wanted to to live there until she died as she loves the house and memories. The house is in the UK, and worth about 500,000 pounds a couple of years ago, roughly $800,000 at today’s currency rates, but as the UK is going down the tube atm I think a more realistic figure would be around 400 to 450 thousand. She is allowed to use up to 50% of my half of my money, to use to buy another house.

So we were extremely surprised to hear she wanted to move, but we could end up with another 150 to 200 thousand shortly for what’s left after her new house purchase, and I still get whatever my 25% is worth in the new property probably 33 to 50 % from what she is saying, when she either dies or goes into a care home. This is better as the UK housing market always goes back up quickly, so it’s a good investment provided she maintains the property.

So the 80,000 mortgage here will be paid off in the next 20 months when it’s up for renewal, so we don’t incur penalties, the wife is retiring as soon as the money hits the bank account and my daughter gets 25% of what I get so she can clear all her student debts and focus on making more debt getting her masters degree lol.

I would never in my wildest dreams thought we would be in this position a year ago fighting tooth and nail with the WCB for some money.

The universe truly does work in wonderful and mysterious ways, when you know how to ask for what you want correctly.

This last part is what I’ve been trying to refine more. I actually catch myself now saying “for the universal good of all…” haha so thanks for that!
