Glad to hear it wasnā€™t another flood and days of no power.

Still working on my fly rod but now waiting for thread to do the wraps with. Been practising a couple of wrapping techniques to do a fancier design than just wrapping a single colour as Iā€™d planned.

My little woodworking project is done, (cork is wood isnā€™t it?), Shaped the grip to fit my hand so not a standard half-wells type but I like it. Final sanding with 360 grit then a coat of U-40 cork sealant. Took hours to ream it out to perfectly fit the blank but itā€™s all ready to glue in place once the guides are wrapped on.

Wildfire smoke was really bad for a few days but down to a slight haze today which is good as we have to go to town today for the wife to see the doc. Somethingā€™s going on as sheā€™s lost 50lb in less than 6 months and only weighs 80lbs now. :frowning:

Got her going on the RSO again. She should have never stopped taking at least a low dose daily the last couple years.

:peace:

Sorry to hear your wife has more problems, hopefully they can find out quickly whatā€™s going on.

Yeah cork is wood. The handle looks great, where are the rings that hold the reel on going to be. What did you use to ream out the center of the cork its not easy to get a clean cut on that stuff as well as it being more fragile than hard wood.

I cut 120grit sandpaper into long 3/8" strips then painted wood glue on the back and wrapped it around an old spinning rod top section. Then did another section a foot down for making it bigger. I measured the thickness of the rod blank at the bottom and top area the grip will sit then made the rough sections of the reamer just a touch smaller. I should have cut more strips and had sandpaper all the way down as I had to use the skinny top part to carefully ream it big enough to get down to the thicker part. I can add more later if I do another rod. The grip fits perfect with no gaps at the top or bottom end.

I got my order of 18 spools of rod thread on Friday but the stuff is much finer than I thought it would be. I have a lighted magnifying lamp I can place in front that helps but it gets in the way when I need to get both hands in there which will be often with the wraps designs I want to do.

Metallic on the right side and nylon on the left.

Iā€™ve been looking at various magnifiers to wear over my reading glasses but not sure what will work. I think Iā€™ll need at least 5X to be able to see the fussy stuff and want to be able to use them for tying little dry flies too. You do a lot of detail work so any ideas? I donā€™t mind investing a bit of money if I have to.

Iā€™ve been practising with thicker sewing thread and have got the hang of some basic wraps like fade wrap, olive branch and sawblade which is the olive branch with a border wrap along side the little angled bits. The wrap on the right was a perfect sawblade with a white band in the centre but when I went to pull the tag end of the thread thru to anchor it I screwed up and it came loose and flew apart. I anchored it there to save that last bit but Iā€™m confident Iā€™ll be able to do it on the rod with metallic black and silver once I can see wtf Iā€™m doing. lol

That wrap on the left was my first try and was supposed to have that first row of spiral then two winds of white then one wind of black, 2 more of white then another row of black spiral but I forgot the 2nd double row of white so have sawblade on the right. I was still having trouble doing the move from one colour to the next as you see on the red wrap but watched a good u-tube in slo-mo a few times and now know how to do it right. The 3rd one was a go using some diffraction mylar type strip for fly tying. Something thicker might look better but just an experiment.

The wife got the last of the lab test results online and itā€™s not looking great. They did a cancer test and it is strongly positive tho that doesnā€™t mean for sure itā€™s cancer as she also has hyperthyroidism which could explain the weight loss. Cat scan set for Nov 2 after bitching as the first appt was for Dec 16. A friend has a CAT scan appt for Oct 5 or so and tried to get them to let Chris go in her stead as hers is for sinus problems and sheā€™d happily swap but they wonā€™t allow it. Got her going on increasing doses of RSO and vitamin supplements but need a couple of supplements to make the RSO work better for liver cancer in case thatā€™s what it is. Her liver tumours shrank when she was on the RSO a couple years back but she stopped taking it.

Just have to wait and see what the scan shows when she gets it but taking steps to be on top of it as much as we can.

Check this out. I was planning to to sneak into the hemp field and grab some tops but when I went to town on Friday they were mowing down the last of the field. On the way home I stopped and walked in to have a look and used my tiny Swiss Army knife to cut a fistful off. Then as I went back to the car I noticed a tractor working itā€™s way up the field toward me so walked back to chat with the guy. They are only after the fiber so he said no problem to taking all the tops I want. I went and got the reuse-able grocery bag and filled it up in 20 min. Had to scoot into town today and stopped with good pruners to stuff another bag even fuller than the first in half the time and the first has 1800g of almost dry tops in it so this one will be easily 50% heavier but didnā€™t weigh it yet. Even at 6% CBD thatā€™s a lot of CBD for free and Iā€™ll make it all into oil once I get going on that again. Fishing season wonā€™t last much longer and the winter is long, cold and dark here so plenty of time for projects.

Big garage sale down the road and want to be there at 9 when it starts so off to bed for this old rodent.

that sucks. I have been walking around my yard with a long extension cord and fanning the plants all week. drying up morning dew cause the sun has moved on some plants and they stay wet unless I do. also B.C cool cool. I keep putting of going there. my buddy from the day moved there years ago. i crashed at his house in high school often, we used to steal bots of his dads hash lol engineer or something, they moved to b.c so his dad could grow free-er like 20 years ago, my buddy and his wife lives at his parents now, there old he will get the house, he is bored as shit, always inviting me down there, island of Nanaimo. when the place is his and his wifeā€™s, i am pretty sure I am moving out there for a while, seasonal, for work.

I still have 2 Blood orange haze from Pigeonman going, I moved them 2 days ago to another position in the yard as the sun is lower now and they are in shade from the trees a lot more. I have made a glass TP from some old windows which seems to be helping keeping the morning dew off them. Sunrise is 6.30 and sunset at 7.30 so they are slowing down on the growth now, no frosts yet so thatā€™s good. Plants smell very skunky no oranges yet, but they still have about 4 weeks by he look of them, hopefully October will be like last year, nice and warm with not much rain. The humidity has dropped off a bit now with the weather getting cooler, so hopefully these may escape the rot.

We keep planning to go out to BC to see my daughter but because of the dogs we have to drive, itā€™s a logistical nightmare finding hotels that allow 2 dogs. My daughter and her boyfriend are moving to Calgary, well fort Mack first while he does training for a driving job on the huge dump trucks then Calgary.

So I guess we will be visiting them there if we get out there next year, but my wife and daughter have a friend in the UK who is getting married next year, so they are going to that, but not sure when itā€™s going to happen, so maybe we wonā€™t be out to Alberta next year lol.

Nice score on the CBD, I guess itā€™s organic as they only want the fiber, so no need to spray it with anything.

Getting her back on the RSO sounds like a positive step, you would think they would prioritize people with a cancer/tumor history for a faster appointment. I hope its good news and something simple to deal with.

That just reminded me, I need to call the doc about my brain scan I had 3 weeks ago lol, I figure they would call if it was something nasty and not parkinsons related, it was for the neurologist whenever I get an appointment for him, probably another 3 years, as the doc said the average wait time now is 5 years to see one ffs.

I remember the threads on my old fiberglass fly rods were more like silk than cotton for thread size, those are some pretty fancy patterns you are practicing. I have a magnifying visor with different strength lenses that clip in and out and also has a little LED light on it. I think the wife got them on Amazon one Christmas about 10 years ago, they make life very easy for small fiddly things as well as my fine detail airbrushing. They seem to reduce my hand shakes some how when I am using them as well.

Hereā€™s a link for mine but they seem to have a lot more choice now. I like these as the head band allows you to lift them up without having to take them off. You have to keep tightening up the screws now and again though or they get lose after a while of use and the tension nut drops off.

my bad, as i was late-night scrolling I thought i picked up on congrats for the house sale or move, then the word B.C, I got excited thinking if it is near my buddyā€™s we hanging. lol
4 weeks nerve racking, i am cracked buds open for air daily. two reasons I keep putting blueberry outside, done before October first and a very neighbor friendly smell wise. all sweet and berry.

Yeah there is some large gaps of time between my posts for the last year and up to August this year, because of not growing anything and moving house. My daughter is in Kelowna but only for another month then they are off to Fort Mack before the mountain pass gets too snowy lol.

Yeah Shadey we got home from that garage sale and there was a voice mail from the clinic telling her to go check in at the hospital so off we fucked and she may be in until the 6th. She now will be getting her CAT scan on Friday at a different hospital then on the 6th will be getting endoscopy and a colonoscopy at the same time. Why waste a good sleep on drugs eh. Her doc today says that a couple things improved so maybe the RSO is working good. She gained 2.5lbs. Weā€™ll know more before too long and nobodies freaking out yet.

My lighted mag lamp is about 3X and if I put another smaller 3X on it for 6X itā€™s almost good enough but then I have to have the hanging lamp housing so close I canā€™t get in to do stuff so some sort of headset ones up to 8 would be nice.

Just to be able to try this thing out Iā€™ve decided to use some heavier thread I have to wrap the guides with little dabs of fly tying head cement on the tag ends to make sure they donā€™t come loose and when I cut the thread to take it off there wonā€™t be any goo on the rod blank to clean up. The grip could be glued into place but I need the lower part of the butt clean to turn in the rod wrapper support ā€˜Vā€™. I have some heavy waxed polyester thread for an awl I could use to wrap the end 3 or 4 layers so I can jamb the reel seat on with just a dab of epoxy near the top to make sure it doesnā€™t slip off and will be easy to clean up when all the permanent wrapping is done.

Then I can get it out and hopefully put a few fish on it before it freezes up here and take my time doing a really good job on it over the winter.

I plan on tying a lot of flies too so the glasses will be great for those as well. Iā€™ll do a google and see if I can find other than whatā€™s on Amazon as thereā€™s really not a lot of choice there and I donā€™t mind paying more for something Iā€™ll like and will get a lot of use out of.

I had a brain scan a while back for MS and surprise surprise there was some brain left in there but no MS. Need to finish digging up a row of potatoes, weed eat all the clover as it wraps around the guyā€™s rototiller badly and get the garden cleaned up ASAP to get that done. Just got an $80 can of that white RV roof sealer to fix up the carport roof and of course the weather went to shit today but looks good for tomorrow so garden first. At the moment and for the rest of this season the wife is non-functional so itā€™s me and the kid and sheā€™ll be doing the heavy lifting.

Pretty sure they would have called if something was seriously off but still nice to hear an All Clear!

The hemp is drying out in the carport with the onions and the guy I talked to said they didnā€™t spray anything on it. Thy need a better machine for cutting it down. Leaves foot high stubble which is lost fiber and lost profits plus it doesnā€™t lay it in rows to ret and they have to do that on their own to have it ready to bale up in those big round bales. Should be an open house at the hemp plant and Iā€™d like to go see it working. All state of the art machinery too.

Speaking of hemp Iā€™m almost all out of my last 16lb order of hemp hearts and 8lbs of protein powder so must get on that. Iā€™ve been eating lots of both the last month and my arthritis is much better.

They are certainly covering all the bases, lets hope they cant get a diagnosis from all of those procedures so you know what she is dealing with.

Iā€™ve looked at that one but I think itā€™s a bit overkill. I just wrapped the stripping guide that has two feet and the next one up that is a single foot guide as are all the rest. I used some size B rod thread I already had thatā€™s black/silver and got them done easily just using the lighted magnifier lamp thatā€™s about 3X All the stuff I just bought is size A. If all I wanted to do was a straight wrap I good do that with the small stuff well enough but when youā€™re doing tricky designs you gotta nail it.

One set I saw is a similar design as those but the LED light and battery pack are removable and can be used as a little flashlight. That would take off some weight as my lamp can be overhead for good lighting. I think it went to 8.4X which Iā€™m sure would be good enough.

No panic. Iā€™ll get this rod whipped up for temporary use now and redo it permanently over the winter. Iā€™ve already had a couple different thoughts about what I want to do.

The 2 BOH are cruising along, nights are in the low teens atm and we have about 12.5 hours of light a day so I think they are not growing as much as they could atm.

One has leaves starting to purple, dont think I have had a plant with purple leaves before. They should be finished in another 3 weeks from Pigeonmans info but I think they will go longer due to the short light time they are getting.

I set up some lights in my workshop for the plants, this week although dry has been misty and overcast so I am hoping more light will improve the yield, Iwill put them outside on sunny days, and back inside at night.

I just hope it doesnā€™t stress them too much going from 12 to 24 hours of light, time will tell I guess.

Why not use a timer and provide the same hrs as the sun gives them? Theyā€™ll end up revegging on you.

Well my knowledge on autos is not comprehensive but I felt it was fairly safe that they would stay in flower, do you think I should be ok  also I dont want to spend an hour or more moving and opening boxes that are spread about in the workshop, barn and house trying to locate my timers lol.

Didnā€™t realize they were autos long as they donā€™t herm you should be fine.
