I smoke test my males Tom i have for a long time that tells me all i need to know and so far it has worked for me.

It doesn’t though. Is the trait capable of expressing in a homozygous aa state or heterozygous As only? If the latter may as well use any damn male and female :joy:

You don’t know dude, I don’t know either mate. Folk like to pretend like they do but it usually ends up in ignorant wives tales etc. It’s guttingly brutal.

In theory the holy grail is finding a group of desirable traits that do express in a state of homozygosity

Well i go by what i see in the seed that the selection makes and so far it has.

Yeah, you and every working dog breeder punter from the fell. Doesn’t mean you have anything to add though :joy:

I’ve had no life :joy: I been sitting here growing and thinking about it for nigh 40 year. Like in a serious way. This is why I just come barging into the nerd board meetings lol, because I thought about them things for a minute too.

Proofs in the seed right ?

I didn’t sit and read scientific literature or follow what Sam or others said when i breed my seed.

I went with my gut instincts and years of hands on.

The male or males are key.

I am actually excited for deliberate manipulation of the cannabis genome by actual geneticists now that the US and many countries have loosened their laws.

I figured it’s not too long before one of the REAL nerds, the ones with PHDs in Plant Genetics get snapped up by private cannabis firms to develop some new interesting stuff. But maybe not if the money is still in Insta porn and bloated THC%

Regardless the next few decades in cannabis are gonna be interesting I think.

Not many are being posted but the few i have seen look good mate.

I think that’s a blue sky world. Most everything I see coming out of the science realm is incredibly parochial. I see no real deep understanding of the plant - in regards to drug type - coming anytime soon.

@Hapi is growing some I believe

Thai buds are green and I haven’t seen any purple on mine. The only time I have found purple is when I crossed the Thai x DC. The purple you can see is on the petiole, I will watch more as the temps drop but I wonder if that is the max? The Thai bud structure totally dominated the bud morphology on the DC.

Sam has a basic understanding of it all. A few years ago it was some huge thing that macro cannabinoid order was mendelian genetics, no man. More recently mold resistance is also mendelian genetics, no man. Things are quite clearly more complicated than that, a world of thresholds controlled by a multitude of factors. It has always been such and such will it always be.

The Dc x Lao doesn’t have any resistance; Rot Magnet and not a good choice indoors imo. The super dry hot climate here works for this. 5-25% humidity!

Maybe Heavy needs to get him on a podcast? The last one Gypsy did I couldn’t make out but what I did hear from it was worth the listen. The gene for rot is recessive in my observations so further breeding would need to select for it.

Point is there are thresholds that will be reached or not. And here’s this gene over here we didn’t know about that retards progress to said threshold. Its playing out like that super complicated
