An easier method for reversing using straight silver nitrate

I meant would it give a male female characteristics as well or is basically giving the plant testosterone. I’m going to take from your answer it’s the latter lol

So then the point is go straight male, not herm? I thought we were aiming for a hermed plant/branch that flowers but produces seeds. So we’re trying to male certain branches and pollinate the others with the pollen from the males? That actually makes much more sense and has me wondering what the hell I was thinking.

I had someone tell me to wipe the tent with alcohol if I ever got pollen in there and he made it sound like a big deal- like I was running a high risk of future grows pollinating if I didn’t go surgical clean on it.

I appreciate the answer. Definitely cleared up my confusion on it.

The silver inhibits the ethylene in the female plant, leading to the development of male pollen sacs. That does not work in a male plant.

You can make a male develop female flowers, probably using ethylene, I forgot. It’s in the forum somewhere. However it’s rarely done. Only use case I can think of would be a male as the only available plant of a strain that you would want to self (create seeds with just that one plant).

My confusion was whether the silver was the catalyst to switch either sex or just female to male. It makes much more sense that it’s only one way. I’m just trying to soak up knowledge at the moment. I definitely plan to make some seeds this season so I’m trying to walk in prepared.

You answered the lingering question of reversing a male too which would be good to have a layman’s understanding of even if I never do it. Got some homework to do on ethylene!

I injected one and not seeing any results yet. I sprayed it with STS a week before flipping to 12/12. In the meantime I came across this thread so I mixed up the silver nitrate and injected it. It’s 2 weeks in to 12/12 and no balls yet. The two “recipients” are showing flowers and the one I injected is just starting to show female flowers. I injected it again today. We’ll see…

Keep me posted brother. I’m gonna have a lot of good strain soon I’ll keep you posted

Go back around Sep 2019, @Pedro_Bann had a documented experiment with the Injection. Quite interesting, but somewhat futile, I think. SS/BW…mister :honeybee: :100:

Wait, what? Sooo your saying IF I inject the CS into the plants “arm” this will reverse that arm 100%??? Does this REALLY work compared to spraying it daily for 2 weeks with the same CS solution and ratios?

Well, I don’t think people have tried with CS, it has been another silver version (I forget at the moment) and not everyone has had success with mix results sometimes leading to other branches actually making balls.

Some speculate that it could be the way its injected (angle/depth), amount, frequency, and possibly even the age of the branch (hardness of it).

Dammm it. I was so hopeful

I want to know about that specifically as well… hoping to have some clones goin in a few months if nobody else figures it out

Been “hanging out”, how have you been wintering? Certainly hope all has been prosperous for you, family, associates and/or, crew. With all that has been happening this past year, damn happy to converse again. Yes, indeed, you know the Brother isn’t turning down such an offer (Certified Seed Addict)!!! P-L-E-A-S-E continue to stay safe, take special care, don’t let your guard down yet and, as always, be well…mister :honeybee: :100:

I believe we’re seeing some results. And I think the injection worked because I’m seeing “balls” forming from the very top of the plant down.

You are like some others though, we don’t necessarily know if it was from the STS spray and/or the injection unfortunately

Correct. I saw this thread after I had already sprayed it. I’ll be reversing another soon, so I’ll just inject that one.

Cool, looking forward to it, take some good notes for us

Silver, like cobalt is a blocker of ethylene production, this prevents the plant from initiating flowering.
My experience is that the best results are normally had on non apex branches/tips. I assume this is something to do with apical dominance and distribution of plant hormones etc.

I’m going to have to try this when I have a couple clones to spare. I have STS but like a dummy I forgot to start the spraying before flipping to flower but sprayed 3 days into 12/12 and 5 days later. Ran out of spray so need to mix more and spray again on Monday. wondering if injecting that same branch might get balls faster.

:peace:
