Anyone else up North getting antsy?

If its your first grow with them. I would check out the mephisto auto manual that they have. Autos are pretty sensitive and can be stunted and all kinds of things if you just treat them like photos

One thing I’ll say about my somewhat limited experience with autos is make sure to plant them in a big enough pot from the start. It’s ok to transplant em(unlike commonly accepted knowledge) but you’ve gotta be super careful cause as soon as those roots hit something to stop them the plant will stop growing. So to save any issue I’d plant em directly into a 10 gal pot (or bigger). That’ll determine your plant size and thus greatly effect the yield. I’m so antsy that even though I wasn’t gonna start anything yet I found a seed in a bud from last summer and just started it for funsies. It can keep my lemon tree, rainier cherry, aloe, scorpion pepper and cacti company for now and I’ll just keep it under low light and start training early to attempt to keep it under control til I can get it outdoors. I’ll probably start my stuff for outdoors next month

Nice looking collection. I believe this is my first time seeing you. Hello welcome to OG

Thanks Hemp. I joined last year, grew some Wedding Cake in containers. Did ok with them…dry weight yield from the 3 was around 40oz. There’s a thread that covered it called “Wedding Cake On The Deck”

It’s been 48+hrs since I started to pop the beans you see in the above photo.
This morning I moved 20 into solos. I’m trying an experiment this year. There are some folks here that swear by starting in worm casings. Other things I’ve read say that they’re too hot for germinating. So for this round, I put about 3" of casings in the bottom of each cup, then filled it up with a basic sterile seed starting mix. I figure this cuts down on one transplant, and these should go straight from the cups into 1gal pots.

If anyone cares which strains popped so far, you can compare this to the photo above.

as a side note, I LOVE growing heirloom tomatoes. Last year I grew some German Yellows, which were a fantastic strain. For fun, I saved seeds from one of the last tomatoes of the season, washed them and let them set in a jar for a bit. Then dried them and stored them. Probably have 50 or so seeds. I wanted to see if any of them would pop, and since I use the same method as my beans, I just added 4 to the tray.
All 4 of them germinated.
It’s crazy early to be starting tomatoes where I live…usually do that mid-April…but doesn’t cost me anything, and feels good to get some stuff started.

So 2 more popped, bringing the total to 26 out of 35.
There were only 2 varieties that didn’t do well:

The ones that didn’t do well were:
Bed Time Cookies - 4 beans, 2 popped
Box of Chocolate - 6 beans, 1 popped.
All other varieties were 100%, which I’m very happy with.

They’ve all been xferred to seed starting mix, and we’ll see if I can get them all to the next stage.

Ok…poppers that got moved into starting mix 2 days ago are starting to emerge.
Lots of fun to watch. I just moved everything up to my small “almost” grow room upstairs, and will get some grow lights hung up there tomorrow.

I’ll try and grab a few pics now that things are peeking …

Ended up with 28 beans transplanted into seed mix, they all sprouted…and started reaching for light.
Just moved them to an unused bathroom in my attic with a space heater and a grow light about 2ft above the seedlings to start them off gently.
Probably do 18:6 to start with, and then 20:4 once they sturdy on up.

There’s a second light underneath the bin ready to go into use as soon as it’s needed.

I just put another 30 beans on wet paper towel in the cupboard…
This is going to take a lot of space  , at least until I can sex them, hopefully 6/7wks from now.

My first wave of plants are now about 3-4" inches tall. I just added the second light, and both lights are set to GROW, and are hung about 24" above the top of the plants.

My question is how high should my lights be at this stage? They look a bit “leggy” to me, but I think all plants look that way at this stage. They’ve been sprouted for 4-5 days now…so should I drop the lights to 6"?

Feeding is also a big question …I’ve read everything from 1wk to 6wks for first nutes…diluted, of course.

Popped another round…some of the same, but mostly varieties I had that didn’t make it into the pop 2wks ago.
So far, I’ve got another 18 or so.

Now just have to keep them alive and healthy until the “Coming Out” party in 5-6wks

I definitely have to expand my indoor growing space…I haven’t started any of the autos yet, and that’ll be another 20 minimum.

Getting especially antsy now. It’s supposed to be like 68 here on Saturday. That sounds like rolling naked in the grass weather bout now. Then chance of flurries a couple days later :man_facepalming: It’s that time of year where I want to shout at Mother Nature for her to make up her fuckin mind and quit teasing me. Stop making my tulips grow and then snowing on em type of shit

These are from the seeds I put in paper towels on Feb 9th, so almost a month ago.

And most of these were from the second batch, about 10 days later…

Hoping to start seeing sexes on 1st batch next week, so I can make room for some more.

I hear you. That first batch really should be up-potted, but I’m trying to hold off until sexing.

We’ll see.

Nice looking plants.

I have an upstairs room in the attic, and a downstairs area in my basement.
This is the basement, upstairs was getting too crowded.
It’s a bit chilly down in the basement, probably 50-60deg, but it’s ok if they slow down a bit.

AAAHHHhhhhh, the GOOD OL’ Days

We moved up to Maine in 2018, so this was our 4th winter. Still waiting for that one, really good storm…like 2-3’ of snow.
It’s diff now that we’re not working. We just make sure we’ve brought plenty of wood in before the storm and we sit back and enjoy it.
