BeardedMech's Backyard

Oh yeah forgot to mention I got my worm bin up and running.

Ooh excited for these.
Nice upgrade with the worm bin too. Worm poop is pricey.

Itā€™s my first try with a bin. Used to just have a huge compost pile that I dug castings out of. I plan to expand it to a few bins as they reproduce. I made a decision today that Iā€™m gonna take this hobby to the next level and make some money off of it. Gonna. Start a bunch of flats and put em up for sale next month hopefully. If the worms are producing well by next year Iā€™ll sell those too! Why not make some cash doing what I love. The overhead is next to nothing. I figure as long as I can provide some variety the big box stores donā€™t I should be good.

Just took a peek this morning and the second blu-frankenshine has popped. Didnā€™t have time to throw it in soil yet. Will do that when I get home from work.

Things are going swimmingly as far as plants go. Mrs. Beard is back in the hospital again though. If I didnā€™t have these plants to distract me Iā€™d probably be committed by now. Pretty sure AA1 is starting to show sex but Iā€™m not experienced enough to determine this early on. Luckily I am a patient man.

Been trying to decide if I want to transplant the autos into separate 5 gal buckets or 3 or 4 into this 15 gall fabric pot and one or two in another 10 gal. Problem is they need to stay inside under the light for at least another week or two.and I dont think I have enough room and light for 5 separate pots.

How many do you recon I could fit in here without issue?

And hereā€™s just some shots of the seedling rack. I need to upot the flowers and dill that popped and set up for some flats of veggies, herbs and flowers to try and sell this spring.

Guessing male on that one but not for sure yet. Those are doing really good so Iā€™d say no more than 4 in 15 gallons. But 4 should be prefect. Are you keeping the males around for a pollination or are you culling them? Definately 2 in a ten gallon

Culling all males for now. I need to resupply and canā€™t risk polliation. Once I have a good stock of smoke and hash I want to play with pheno hunting and cross polliation. I won a couple bags of pollin I canā€™t wait to try and cross with something. I want to do research on the lineages of what I have and make something I can call my own. I can see me doing this for years trying to perfect a strain. So much fun to be had!

I hear you on that! I enjoy this kinda Stuff so much!

Me too, I always loved gardening but this just adds a whole new element. Reinvigorated my passion for growing things.

I am so sorry to hear that Mrs. Beard is in the hospital. My most positive thoughts and vibes, brother!

It is my understanding that you may be better of not transplanting autos, although this is my first year growing them. Iā€™ve had some folks say to me that they think autos do better (i.e., are more productive) without transplanting. The reason is, like any plant, transplanting sets them back a bit. Because they are going to flower at a predetermined time, the time ā€œlostā€ is better used growing in the same container they were initially planted in.

Does that make sense? Iā€™m pretty high at the moment.

Makes perfect sense and I agree, tho if your super gentle and get a good transplant should be not a problem. Iā€™m like Edward scissor hands sometimes

Yeah Iā€™ve heard that also but far too late lol. Iā€™m gonna give it a shot anyhow. Iā€™m pretty good at transplanting without disturbing the roots. Iā€™ve canā€™t remember the last time I lost a plant to transplanting but this is a different ball game. So either it will go great or I learn a hard lesson.

Got out in the yard today, finally! Got the fencing up to keep the dog out and moved the other raised bed out of the green house. My back is sore from shoveling all that dirt but felt great to be outside.

The dirt I dug out looks even more alive than it was before. Each shovel full was rich black dirt teaming with worms. Dense clumps of worm castings all overt the place. Need to add some perlite and vermiculite and peat to fluff it all up a bit.

I brought the (hopefully) girls out to the green house for some sun. Figure Iā€™ll start hardening then off now. Pretty sure AA1 is male gonna give it another day or two to be sure before I cull it.

Looks like a very nice setup. That soil is rich!

Itā€™s coming along. Behind schedule but better late than never. The second blu frankenshine is a goner. It had a tap root but never broke the surface. So Iā€™m just gonna run the one for now and hope for a female. Now I have to decide what to replace that one male Afghani with. I have 3 other autos I got online. Trying to figure what one Iā€™m gonna germ tonight.

The choices are:
Chocolope
Sidecar
24K Gold

I can only find one hit on seedfinder for sidecar so I can only assume thatā€™s what I have. It was a freebie and Iā€™m intrigued by the description. Seems like what Im looking for in terms of medicinal use. Pain killer, stress relief and anxiety.

And the 24k gold is appealing right now because of the tangie in it. Iā€™ve never had a tangie/orangey strain and am curious how it is.

The chocolope I can go either way. So I guess itā€™s really just between the 24k and the sidecar. Decisions decisions.

Welp.it is done. Only time will tell if my gentle hand was enough. Roots looked good not bound up yet. I managed to transplant all 3 without disturbing the root ball or loosing any dirt so hopefully they take well. Probably should have waited till tomorrow. They were a bit droopy after spending a few hours in the sun today. Fingers crossed they perk up.

I added my usual mix of pellatized gypsum, bone and blood meal to each hole. I like to use pellatized because it breaks down slower over time. Since Iā€™ve been doing this with my tomatoes and peppers my root balls have been huge, and we all want huge balls, right? Usually Iā€™ll add pellatized potash every other year the mix.

I forgot to add it to the hole for AA2. So I guess this accident is now an experiment and AA2 is the control.

You see how fast it works!

:joy: that plants all bud.

Well roughly 12 hours since transplanting and all 3 have perked up. No droopy leaves, just happy plants! So far Iā€™m calling it a success, things are looking good.

Dang, thatā€™s some turbo growth right there!
