You need to take your ass off my thread bro, If you want to bash my spelling and comprehension skills you need to do that to your parents because you must be a rude person, I am an old 60 yr old man No skills in schooling was kicked out at 14 and today I have a great life with my wife and family…
You need to stop hurting people here and start realizing we are all not perfect and don’t need your shit on my threads anyone else behind this member turn around and walk right out…
We have a lot of hawks in Ireland
Pigeon racing is big the part of Ireland I come from noting worst than a hawk getting a prize bird it happens a lot lol pigeon sitting on the roof next thing puff of feathers lol
I miss my OG friends from Across the channels and my fav band U2 is from your neck of the woods lol
Yes some of my pigeon’s cost me a good coin… I purchased 8 of these, had to order them.
The higher the Pedigree the higher the price…
400 miles a day! damn…how does it work, you drive them somewhere & they fly back to your house?
yes people have coffee chat then release the birds they have tags /bans on their feet
and we use gps to track like 60 birds and we drive to certain locations and wait, smoke, have coffee drinks eat etc a social thing , clubs and once the birds arrive their time is logged and the winner gets points and the end of the year winner gets $25,000
We got lots of species of Hawks, Owls, Falcons and Eagles in Ontario. I see many of them around going between the hospitals I work in. Lots of open farm land in the area.
@DougDawson , It’s always a privilege when you give your Input lol
That what you said is true, we are so busy driving we don’t really look at the shapes of clouds or the peaks of mountain tops or birds at the top of tree’s buildings etc…
The peregrine falcons love hanging around the feed mill…they perch on top of the highest towers and swoop into the flocks of pigeons, plucking them from the air.
A guy I used to work with had racing/homing pigeons. Him and his buddies would all bring a pair to the beach and let them go…the first persons birds to make it home wins. Good way to spend a few hours at the beach.
I used to race pigeons when I was younger had a huge loft
That’s how I know about hawks lol,
Don’t see any of that living in the states
One more…
One of the coolest experiences was when I was courier driver. Was driving down the highway with no other vehicles in sight. All of a sudden there was a white owl (barn or snowy?) flying right alongside my truck…I swear I could have almost grabbed it from the driver’s seat…SUPER CLOSE!! Was only for a few seconds, but will never forget that one.
Not me, I try to always take in my surroundings and be situationally aware. One of the things you learn when practicing privative survival is to always be scanning your surroundings for opportunities. The more you know, the less you need
Sorry your posts were misunderstood by some members my friend. Hawk wings and pigeon wings are different for sure. I love birds of prey! Have seen more than 100 bald eagles in one frame fishing the ice breakup on the Mississippi by La Crosse, WI. Have seen bald eagles taking all manner of fish on Lake Pend’Oreille in Northern Idaho. Also have a friend here in the Midwest USA that has a decorated Korean War Veteran 85 year old father who raises carrier pigeons who has run afowl (pun intended) of local city officials who have declared his flock unlawful. He has had his flock and house since before the city moved out to his area…F&$KI?/ travesty. Don’t trust any politicians or municipal government!
I have the same problem with the 4.5 lb service animal I had trained for the hubby.I trained her to a potty patch so she is never outside without me carrying her.
I read your message wrong, but what we don’t see when driving can amaze anyone…
My saying to anyone is Stealth is Wealth
A bit off course, so I beg pardon to the OP.
I was fly fishing a section of the Susquehanna river, about 20 years ago. The river had a good many folks on it enjoying the great day.
I waded into an area, that was a bit shallow, but from walking it before, I knew of a nice deep drop off, and wanted to float a big bass popper by it for a bit.
So I get myself situated on the water, fire up a phatty. I make a few casts, and get a nice hit on the popper. It’s a small mouth bass, I let it go, and cast some more.
About an hour later, I’m switching up poppers, out of the corner of my eye, and in the water, I see this shape swim by me. Kind of big, but not so fish looking.
I’m puzzled by this, but it’s gone so fast, I do not ponder on it. I make a few casts, hit another smallie, let it go, and then in front of me about 15 feet, I see this shape again. I had seen a shape like that fishing down in Texas, around South Padre Island once. But that was manta’s,
We do not have them WTF!
So, now I’m really trying to see what this is, as I’m a few miles up stream of 3 Mile Island Nuc site.
Krikeys did I find some mutation, is this really a Manta? No dumbass, it’s way to cold this far north.
Now the shape is coming right at me, I’m looking as hard as I can, into the water, and it’s coming fast…then it went like right between my legs, but there was nothing there!!! My head is almost spinning trying to figure it out!
So off to my left about 30 feet away, I see it again, but this time I look up, and there is this bald eagle soaring in circles!
So majestic, and like he was laughing at my stupidity, gives me a show!
He spies something about a 100 yards out from me, and goes into the diving kill swoop, slams into the river, and instantaneously uplifts with a nice fish in it’s talon’s. Climbs up, circles back around to show his far nicer fish than I got all day.
I had to laugh at my silly self, and give him a thumbs up for our fishing me.
That’s an awesome story @webeblzr! They are such large birds.
This guys is always out and about neat my house. It’s nest is just down the way from me.
When I was canoeing the boundary waters in Canada many years ago, I had a bald eagle swoop down and grab a huge fish out of the water around 10 ft aways from the boat! I’ll never forget that.
I live next to a railway corridor and have hawks patrolling all the time
They get so close to my windows. It’s amazing.
I have had a Bald eagle glide along side the car for a couple of hundred meters, doing 60 clicks, I was concerned another vehicle coming in the other direction might hit it but it lifted up as we got close to a blind bend.
Also when fly fishing in a trout stocked Loch on a boat in Scotland an Osprey eagle would dive down into the water about 30 meter’s away every 20 minutes for the whole afternoon I was there and fly off with a big trout, really pissed me off as I caught nothing lol. That eagle was costing the Loch owners a lot of money, but they are heavily protected as there were only a few breeding pairs back then in the UK.
I did a falconry day once, got to handle a lot of different raptors in the morning, and flew a perrigrin falcon to a lure in the afternoon.
The one that impressed me the most was an eagle owl. They use them for hunting wolves in Russia. I had to wear an extra thick guantlet holding that one, even with 1/4 inch thick raw hide leather you could atill feel a very heavy pressure from its talons digging in. The instructer said they can crush a tennis ball with their grip. For such a big bird I was surprised it felt so light, probably only 2 or 3lbs.
